Edited by: lacal on 01/09/2008 14:56:14 Hi All
I'm sure there is a simple answer to this along the lines of get a Battleship or fit Artillery Cannons, but I'd rather not for now!
Here's my problem, I can run lvl2 missions all day long in my Cyclone, but I want to move up to level 3. With the couple of level 3 missions I've tried, if I get an elite frigate I cant damage the bugger! Most recent mission had 4 spawns of Angels, worked through the 2 closest spawns no problem at all but then the next spawn had 3 Angel Vipers, even with me webbing them the only thing that was hitting them was my missiles and for a woeful amount of damage.
My skills are limited 1.3Mill Sp's so I may be trying to do too much too quickly OR I may just be taking the wrong approach to doing these lvl3 missions.
My tank is fine, my damage is fine UNTIL I get an elit frig - any tips welcome - oh and current fitting below.
5*425mm Autocannon w/phased plasma M (tech1) 3*Heavy Missile Launcher w/ havoc/scourge/widowmaker (tech1)
1*named tech 1 Afterburner 1*med shield booster tech 2 1*shield boost amplifier tech 1 remaining 2 mids used for mission specific hardeners or 1 hardener and 1 webber
1*tech 1 cpu 1*tech 1 heatsink 1*tech 1 gyrostabiliser 1*tech 1 tracking enhancer |

I believe this is the answer you are looking for.
You might also want to consider switching to 220mm autocannons as the have superior tracking. |

haha cheers, simple as that then!
drones is only at level 2 just now, but had a quick play with a couple of drones on one of my lvl2 missions, impressed with how quickly they take out the frigates at that level.
Will train to lvl4 (only 40m4 drone bay on cyclone anyway) and attempt lvl3's once more - thanks again! |

on another note, lose the heatsink, if you read the description you'll find that those are damage mods for LAZORZ. i'd stick either a dcII or a another gyrostab on there instead, depending on how your tank handles lvl 3's. |

heres a wee link to an EFT of my current setup (I have no idea why it shows my cpu as over, got 14 free in game)
clicky
tank figure is for 50% of each of my resisted types, probably as it would be in a mission, works fine as long as I dont run out of cap, which apparently only takes 2 minutes - oh dear :( |

Hmm..
Level 3 Mission Cyclone T1 (Angels)
High: 5x 650mm Howitzer I(Fusion M), 3x Heavy Missile Launcher I (Havoc) Medium: Medium Sheild booster, 10MN AB, Shield boost amplifier, 2x rat specific resitance amplifiers Low: Power Diagnostics Unit, 3x Gyrostabilizers R: whatever you can put there, burst aerator, ambit extension and a ancillary current router to fit it all.
Should fit with level III in the relevant skills.

Yeah, have resolved that 'doh' moment, had been running about with that module fitted for the last 2 weeks lol.
Been playing with the EFT to look at the difference between 650mm artillery and 425mm autocannons.
With the same skills (I dont have a tech 2 specialisation yet) the autocannons out dps the artillery, and not by a small amount. Is the lower dps the trade off for being able to shoot at range?
Assuming your tank can take it would it not be preferable, for mission running, to go with the autocannons - higher dps and you get more control over where the wrecks end up?
Also CCC rigs, wow! just had a play with 3 of them in the rig slots rather than resists - looks like the way forward when funds allow! |

The dps is higher if you have the weapons activated. But you will waste a lot of time with moving close enough to a ship before you can make successful use of your autocannons. In the same time you could shoot with long range turrets and I guess the actual dps (averaged over the whole mission time) will be higher with artillery, at least in most missions (where you have groups with many rats, far distant groups of rats or rats who run away to keep their optimal distance as soon as you approach and where you cannot use a MWD). Personally I have tried to use short range guns several times but in the end it was a pain and for most missions it took a lot more time.

My fit...
5x 650 arties, 3x assault missile launchers ab, large extender, 2 hardeners, large booster nano, overdrive, gyrostab, ballistic control unit
7 light drones, armour repair drone (to repair your drones between spawns)
You'll find the light missiles and drones eat frigates up, then concentrate your fire on the remaining cruisers/ battlecruisers.
Ive done many lvl 3's and some lvl 4 missions with this fit and it made cyclone my favourite toy for a long time...
