Seems the best way for all of us to bridge that gap, is watch and learn
Me and some corpies took a right beatin recently because we are newbies (well one of us is 4/5 months old.
after the beatin the guy that beat us (timekeeper) told us how and now we are better able to deal in the future
Eve isn't just about buying and training skills, but each one of us must learn how to play the game

Look. Come on. One thing I've NEVER heard from anyone is
'Sorry, you're too low level to group/gang with us'
Unlike every other mmorpg I've played. imo, gratz CCP!

Hardin and Eddie have both made a great point.
Hardin's point is that if you train for a specific purpose you get far more effective far quicker.
Who of us didnt waste hours of training on skills etc cos we didnt know what we wanted or what we were doing.
Eddie' comment of actually listening and trying to learn from Vets compliments this in that by doing so they can avoide a lot of the time we wasted.
That way they will indeed close the gap quicker anyhow.

Don't forgot. Most the Vets are traing high level 5 skills that say... take 20 days. We can get that skill up to lvl 4 in 2-4 days.

Yeah sorry, I guess there is a plateaux, but it's only theoretical. Noone is going to reach it before more skills are introduced (like the new missile skills). I'm pretty sure that trend will continue so the vets will always have an edge. That's what I was implying.

beg to differ, lots of cambat oriented people ARE at the plateau already as far as improving their combat skills goes.
they are now probably training up defender missile 5 or science 5 because they got nothing better to do.
There are people out there (and not just a few) with over 10 million skillpoints. Calculate how many of those fit into a specialise char and you'll see their plateau for that specialisation has been reached long ago. _______________________________________________

Originally by: FileCop AI Actually, there really is no gab. It takes only about 2-3 months to get a character into a battleship with descent skills. You won't take out an elite player in 1on1, but in a fleetbattle those skills doesn't really mean anything. New players have these months to familiarize themselves with the game, make money, learn the ways of pvp and so on. And you can get in pvp even faster. In a couple of weeks you can fly a frigate and be almost as deadly as any other frigate pilot out there - even though he has 15M skillpoints.
As I said - there is no gab. Nothing to fix. It's all fine.

God I hate this laggy site, can I please get to type my reply when I want to and not 15 minutes later!?
Now to the business at hand, to counter this feeling they should at least make advanced requirements that in the worst case is lvl4 of a certain few skills to be lvl5 as to take more commitment to achieve.
This has been done with Interceptors and hopefully this is a development that will continue, therefor I see no problem with the current situation.

The laggy bit is on your side, I think. I get instant page loads etc. both from home and work. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

Edited by: Rizmordan Hillgotlieb on 10/06/2004 17:22:04 I geuss the gap between me and a new player is that I can hunt 0.5 NPC rats in an MWD equipped Ibis and they can't. (I really don't know if that's something to brag about )

I don't really find there's a gap either. The players that have been in-game for quite a long time can be a great resource. Also, having things to look forward to makes playing the game that much more fun.
The market system is key - finding the best deals when buying or selling something can make you or break you. I don't have a world of money yet, but that's because I wasn't careful when exploring (two Bantams down the tubes ).
I've got Caldari Frigate III trained, and Gallente Frigate III has 18 hours left - I'm only a week in. I'll be picking up Caldari Industrial tonight, and then it's a matter of training and moneymaking to get my Badger. Then the world opens up, as I mine with my Imicus and then transport / trade with the Badger.
I think the game is fine the way it is.

I think as soon as players got about 25% of the skills in a certain area to level 5, CCP should/should have release(d) the next level of specialization in that area. Here an idea of some skills to come:
Large Artillery Specialization Skill: Gunnery Large Autocannon Specialization Skill: Gunnery Large Beam Laser Specialization Skill: Gunnery Large Blaster Specialization Skill: Gunnery Large Energy Turret Skill: Gunnery Large Hybrid Turret Skill: Gunnery Large Projectile Turret Skill: Gunnery Large Pulse Laser Specialization Skill: Gunnery Large Railgun Specialization Skill: Gunnery Medium Artillery Specialization Skill: Gunnery Medium Autocannon Specialization Skill: Gunnery Medium Beam Laser Specialization Skill: Gunnery Medium Blaster Specialization Skill: Gunnery Medium Energy Turret Skill: Gunnery Medium Hybrid Turret Skill: Gunnery Medium Projectile Turret Skill: Gunnery Medium Pulse Laser Specialization Skill: Gunnery Medium Railgun Specialization Skill: Gunnery Small Artillery Specialization Skill: Gunnery Small Autocannon Specialization Skill: Gunnery Small Beam Laser Specialization Skill: Gunnery Small Blaster Specialization Skill: Gunnery Small Energy Turret Skill: Gunnery Small Hybrid Turret Skill: Gunnery Small Projectile Turret Skill: Gunnery Small Pulse Laser Specialization Skill: Gunnery Small Railgun Specialization Skill: Gunnery
Shield Piercing Skill: Gunnery Advanced Weapon Upgrades Skill: Gunnery Armor Breaching Skill: Gunnery
Advanced Energy Grid Upgrades Skill: Engineering Advanced Shield Upgrades Skill: Engineering EM Shield Compensation Skill: Engineering Explosive Shield Compensation Skill: Engineering Kinetic Shield Compensation Skill: Engineering Thermic Shield Compensation Skill: Engineering
Blaster Drone Specialization Skill: Drones Laser Drone Specialization Skill: Drones Projectile Drone Specialization Skill: Drones Railgun Drone Specialization Skill: Drones Repair Drone Operation Skill: Drones Salvage Drone Operation Skill: Drones Drone Navigation Skill: Drones
And thats just the fighting ones...So, we can (hopefully) soon(tm) say goodbye to our skill plateaus.

the gap between veteran players and newbies
Eve devs were talking about how to fix the gap between veteran players and newbies in the CSM Session Seven Chat and they said that this is something we would like to take a look at comeąą oną.. deves only thing you need to do to fix the gap between veteran players and newbies is to evolve the economy make it more complex or advanced so players donĘt have to rely on skills only but there own minds too.
I think the gap is quite small.Eve was conceived that way that its easy to get good at things but pretty hard to get very good.I mean the skills system, level 4 usually fast, level 5 very long.
As for cash its enough to join a bigger corp.
I dont think new pilots have a hard life it hink its pretty balanced.
