Hm, okay. Wasn't really sure where to post this but...
Has anyone had any luck getting EVE to run off removable media? (i.e. a flash drive, ipod, removable drive, something to that effect)
I havn't tried it myself yet, but with the breakdown of my desktop and copious access to powerful public computers I am considering exploring the option of running EVE off removable media. Will this be possible without further installing other stuff on the host computer? As long as it has the latest version of DirectX, shouldn't it run correctly? Or are there registry keys, etc. that need to be in place?
Summary: If I install EVE to a removable drive, will I be able to run it from a fairly powerful computer just by plugging it in, or will I need to install it directly on the target computer?

Yes, I have needed to do exactly that.
Eve will run from just about anything. It doesn't need to run the installer, just copy the application to a USB stick and you are set to go.
About the only catch is that it obviously takes a little longer to start initially as it is reading from a slower media source, but once it is running you will be fine.

Edited by: Kim Mei on 02/09/2008 17:44:36 I would also be interested in knowing the answer to this. I can't recall at the moment, but I believe I didn't install the game on my current computer, just copied the files over from my old desktop. I will clean out my 4gig flash drive after the patch and copy the game to it and try it on another machine.
Poster above got here before me. Thanks for the answer mate! That is awesome.

I copied the installed files to a USB stick and ran it on my laptop. It even ran on my iMac using Crossover - although it didn't run the Premium graphics, so it ended up looking the same as the Mac or Linux versions.
At least it did run when 'installed' like that. |

Interesting, I'll have to try this.
Of course, your local cache will be borked, so your overview and bookmark folders may be hosed up when running from such an install....
Wonder if there's a way to get those as well, and have a totally portable EVE experience.

Just get a large enough stick so that you can store the whole client and the My Documents files and you should be fine. I think 4 GB is the standard nowadays, so you have enough space for the cache. 2 GB may work, but 1 is right out.

I currently have Lineage II installed on an external USB hard drive. No problems. I don't see why eve would be any different.

Yup, i play eve at work on my flash drive. Works fine :) With windows i would just copy the game itself to the flash drive and simply run it from there. With the mac at work i load up the .dmg file and run the app from it. http://www.eve-wiki.net/ |

Add:
/end /LUA:OFF
...after the target in a shortcut and it will run settings from the eve folder rather than my documents.
If you do a clean install to flash drive you should find that Eve and all settings fits in well under 2GB. Any extra space in your current build is probably taken up with no longer relevent patch files.
