Haha, first time I see this one. Not surprising the Steam forums are being quoted there, lol.

What I'm mad about is not that it takes time to patch the game, only that time after time they estimate to little time for it. Why not just add a cpl of hours extra each time and ppl will not get upset?

Wouldn't it be cool if everything worked out the way it was supposed to? I'm sure CCP has their reasons for the delay. Unexpected migration errors, unforeseeable consequences, it happens. When you're working with a beast like Tranquility (and it really is a beast), things can go very wrong very rapidly. No amount of whining will make this any better.
I'd rather see CCP take their time getting this sorted out rather than spend the 3 weeks rebuilding the database.
Compare EVE's downtime to any other game - then compare the size/complexity of their servers. Considering both of those factors, the folks over there are friggin magicians. If it's that big an issue, GBTWoW --------- War isn't the answer. However, the objective isn't to provide answers rather than eliminate the question. |

Ahh we're getting at it, heh. Technical issues are bound to happen whenever you work with extremely complex systems. However, in the same way that any company providing some kind of service needs to do, whenever they have an out-of-the-ordinary situation versus their day-to-day operations, they need to manage their customers' expectations.
Now I haven't been around EVE for more than a few months, and I don't play every day, far from it, but from what I read, they seem to have patch downtime extensions multiple times on every patch day. So, if its a perception issue on how they do manage our -- the players' -- expectations, now we can ask ourselves whether the way they work in that regard is due to: a) incompetence in PR; b) not caring about it; or c) doing it completely on purpose.
I'm all more b) or c), but I think its more b), realistically. In other words, I don't think CCP cares that a few wieners bust a fuse every time they don't match delays and they rather be honest and open about the best-case downtime estimates they publish.
I don't say that's the best option, but IMHO, you'll have to stuff it, lol.

It's not CCP's fault that some of their customers have unrealistic expectations. You can't emotionally babysit emo's. That's like trying to herd chickens.

expectation is defined by their notice... if thats unrealistic, then maybe they should post a realistic one.

It's impossible to predict when a problem will be fixed. You can only give an estimate. It's not CCP's problem that some people believe it's possible to predict the future down to the minute.

I agree with Tigger on that one. While its not possible, at this point, to accurately predict the future, you can still guess what's going to happen with a certain level of confidence about the outcome (i.e. I can't predict the future, but chances are extremely small that I will lose my job this week).
In other words, if you say "its going to take 2 hours tyo do xyz" and 95% of the time, on several attempts, you end up taking 3 hours or more to do xyz... without predicting the future, maybe next time around, you could be more realistic and say 3 or 4 hours, no ?

Don't be dumb. They know what the problems are and they do actually make the best guess they can. Do you seriously think they just make up random numbers or something? If someone can't handle a few hours without a game then they've got to have some very serious psychological issues and need to seek professional help.
