Edited by: Vaal Erit on 03/09/2008 03:05:12 Hi, I just found out something interesting while eve-searching (bored while running lvl4s)
CCP Greyscale is in charge of updating the In development page
The page has not been updated since October 16th 2007. Getting close to 11 months without an update.
"Wahhhh, I've been busy" exclaims CCP Greyscale
Well FW is complete and you haven't written a dev blog since and there was only a scant 2 dev blogs last month. So you are busy doing what excatly? I am expecting a pretty stunning In development page, I mean if it takes a year to make it must be awesome, right?
And btw, CCP Greyscale, about your TPS reports: we're putting new cover sheets on all of our TPS reports now before they go out... --

Seriously, yes, there is an URGENT need for an update on the game's direction, etc. Here we are maybe 2 months from the next expansion and they haven't even told us what it will be.
EA was a VERY thin expansion that released not a single new ship (except a T1 frigate) that added content that is inaccessible to anyone who is an alliance member. Very lame.
This following on an expansion that was a graphics upgrade with a couple new ship classes pre-nerfed to hell and set up so that they are incredibly overpriced so that no one wants them and with practically no new content is NOT a good thing.
What is the next expansion? What can we expect except the ill conceived speed nerf? If the next expansion ISNT ambulation, what is it going to be?
Methinks CCP needs to start posting more dev blogs, etc, or else people are going to lose interest. There has been FAR less Dev interaction and information than there was last year.
My opinions are my own and do not necessarily represent those of my corp or alliance. |

More likely, he drew the short straw and didn't get to work on WOD and is one of the few Devs left working on EVE.
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the ho's and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down, and whisper 'no.' |

Well, what are you going to put on there?
- If you state that you'll keep EVE as harsh as ever and that ganking/highsec wars and all that are perfectly legal, then you won't attract WOW players.
- If you actually put there that things are/have been changing to facilitate the average WOW/PVE player and that wars should be different and high sec will be a safe haven with all kinds of rules in place, you'll lose your initial players. Until ofcourse you have all the pro-WOW stuff ready and in place, then it doesn't matter anymore and you can update freely, sicne you'll get more new people than that will leave.
It's lose-lose. You're far better off not updating at all.
I'm just guessing.

You know, there was a time when I wondered why devs don't post much. Now I know. CCP Greyscale just recently got done posting a bunch of informative posts that give the information a lot of information on the direction of EVE which we've been clamoring for...and in less than a day he starts getting bombarded with flaming, *****ing, ****ing, and moaning.
Just because he says he should update it at some point does not mean it's necessarily HIS JOB, and it's pretty much obsolete since dev blogs give information, in detail, about what's coming up that they'd like to share with us.

While I wholeheartedly admit that I don't always agree with the devs, and that they may have intentions for the game that I'm not interested in ...
I damn sure ain't going to go insulting them, not purposefully, at least. That's just ignorant.
It would be like asking the teacher for a little curve on your next midterm, while you've been sitting in the back of the class loudly making fun of the way he looks all class.

I count a few new faction cruisers, but I could be mistaken? It is kinda lame alliances are excluded, however, I still think alliances as a whole have more pressing matters than playing in FW wars.

Yeah, nobody uses those expensive Electronic Attack Frigates or ever pilot those Marauder things...

You can't please everybody, but I'm sure they are busy working on improving the game. Besides, would you want to write a blog thats going to get flamed and trolled for 30++ pages?

CCP has seriously dropped the ball communicating with their players. This is an essential task well worth a few hours of lost programming time.
I brought the issue up to GM Sven at PAX08 this year, and his response was that the late assistant community manager (whom we all loved to much) was set to be in charge of updating those pages. With the turmoil from her departure, I think we can understand a little delay in getting it done.
However that still doesn't explain why they left it derelict for so long. It's a serious failure on their part to let everyone speculate freely and run around like headless chickens for so long.

They likely left it on purpose. This player base here hangs on every word from the devs like it is coming straight down from God himself. They may want to change gears someday so the best way to keep something open is to not make "official statements" that the player base will remember months after they are posted.
This isn't anything new or something CCP invented. A lot of MMO devs do not communicate directly with their players as much after a couple years past Beta. CCP does a decent enough jobs with using blogs and such though. The players here whine too much and feel every little subject deserves some sort of official statement by the game's devs.

I disagree. People were very relieved one of the devs has broken the code of silence and actually confirmed the path EVE is on. He didnt get flamed at all, people were restrained.
Unlike what happened to poor Zulupark, when 0.0 pilots fun was minorly threatened (oh no my carrier).
Unfortunately - the lesson to be learned from this is dont mess with 0.0ers, and instead fuk over pirates, who are so used to being gimped its difficult to raise a whimper.

I read those posts, Kahega Amielden. They are terrible posts, good and long and at least some interaction, but absurd posts. Also, the Dev finder hasn't been updated in many days and I haven't found out a way to only see Dev posts in a thread (omg massive threads can go 30+ pages) so this is sekret, hidden dev interaction, not mission-statement front page sweeping reports that people want.
I actually read those posts and though who the mf is CCP Greyscale, so I eve-searched him and read all of his posts.
Still, this does not change the fact that besides ambulation, no one really knows what is next for EVE or really on the horizon. The in development page keeps subscribers to keep paying since they know cool stuff is always coming. Also the thread over 6 months ago states, when you don't update the in development page it seems that EVE is finished and the main focus is not on EVE anymore, but on other projects. If the focus is still on EVE, then certainly you can update the in development page more than once a year, right? --

You know, months of vacations where business slows down etc...
Ever notice that there are never player records in spring and summer? Even EVE players go on vacation or play outside more.
