So I just got done training Astrometrics V. WHEE! One more skill bites the dust.
I'm pizzing myself in excitement and immediately get out the next skill to train - Jump Portal Generation. I start training it and am eager to begin using my new Jump Portal.
What's stopping me from using it so soon?
RANK 14.
So now here I am staring at a skillsheet with my new favorite skill being sandwiched by two Rank 1 skills that take an infinitesimal amount of time to complete compared to this elephant of a skill that is going to complete only after I stare at my screen for TWO HOURS LONG.
You've got to be SHITTING ME. Where are all the other flavors of skill ranks? Not in Science!
But who would have expected Scientists to be reasonable? After doing a little digging around I've found the only reasonable rank progression in skills can be found in Spaceship Command. Everything else cuts off at Rank 5 and that's pretty silly to me. Why would you throw a 2nd tier skill all the way up the ass to Rank 14? Astrometrics was EASY charting up at Rank 3 and I would have expected (without looking) that the next logical step was going to be Rank 5, in which case my skill would have been ready in only about 40 minutes.
But no. So now here I am posting on the forums and calling my girlfriend because I have two hours of nothing to do.

i believe only Titans and Black Ops can do it... And both of those require a ton of SP to fly. so it should make sense when the modules for those ships also requires a lot of SP to use... ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |

^^this tbh. the reason it is a rank 14 skill is because its not in the "tree" you are following. it is meant for capital pilots, and experienced ones at that. compare that rank 14 to everything else they train, and its not that bad of a skill really.

I'm sitting in my Sin, I can fly a Moros as well. I'm just upset because it is one of the higher-tier rank skills for capitals.
I have Dreadnought 5, so I'm not that upset. Just a little vent.

As far as i know Jump Portal Generators can only be fitted and used by titans.
Black ops can jump to a covert cyno.
So why are you training for that if you use dread and black ops?

A cov ops usually. the black ops bs can fit a jump portal genrator and use it to jump portal force recons and stealthbombers to the covert cyno.
A covert cyno is so called because it doesnt show up for everyone in system on the overview like a normal cyno does for those who wondered.

It was originally built as a Titan skill. Rank 14 for those is pretty typical - see Doomsday Operation, Cloning Facility Operation, and the Titan skills themselves. The fact that it got dropped to being a Black Ops skill as well makes it a touch overcosted, but Black Ops are skill sinks at the best of times(he says as he's in the middle of training JDO 5). So yeah, rank 14 is eminently reasonable. ------------------ Fix the forums! |

Uber fail! You prefer to play a game over being with your girlfriend and actually see it as a TORMENT to talk to her?! She must be desperate to be with you =/.

You want something between rank 5 and 14? At rank 8, there's Advanced Laboratory Operation, Research Project Management and Signal Acquisition, all quite useful skills. Cloning Facility Operation is rank 10.

You like reading your own posts, don't you?
Then I'll ask you a question to give you the pleasure to answer it, and then to read the answer you posted :)
Why?
PS When I trained Capital Ships V, I didn't actually stare at my screen all that time [;)]
