Okay guys I am going to tell you what happened to me yesterday and then you may feel free to bash, support or whatever. If anything hopefully you will answer my question. Yesterday I decided to do some PVE in my beloved rattlensnake. It was a fairly easy mission. It was a lvl 4 pirate invasion with the Sansha. On board my rattlesnake I had the following fitted. 3 CCC's t1 for rigs. 2x dread guristas invul. 1 ballistic t2 hardener. A t2 x-large shield booster. A t2 shield amp. A t2 cap recharger, 3x t2 ballistic control systems, 2x t2 cap power relays and 1 t2 cap. flux coil. In my highs I had 6 caldari navy cruise lanchers(paradise missiles) and a tractor beam. 5 t2 hammerheads and 5 t2 warriors. Okay so I went into the mission and immediately realized I had equipped one of my hardeners the wrong way. Usually this wouldn't have been an issue but as I started to return the fire upon my ship I immediately realized, my lanchers were not activating. This long span of nothing started to progress in the system of irjunen. I started to see my 16k shield taking hits but I didn't worry because I've never even come close to dying in this ship because it tanks so well. Well as I sat there like a lame duck. Finally my lanchers activated but more reinforcements started appearing around me and started firing. I felt this could be a bad situation so I decided to release my drones to kill off the warp scrammer but nothing happened. My drones wouldnt release. It just kept saying it was busy. I must have clicked the release drones tab about 40 times during this process of 5-10 mins. I sat there not able defend myself as my shield slowly were withered away. Well eventually I watched in disgust as my ship fell to the hands of a fairly easy enemy. After I floated there in my wreckage for over a minute because of more lag I finally returned to station and petitioned. Overall I managed to kill just 3 of the ships because of the inability to use my offense. I waited almost 24 hours since my petition and then went to the help channel and asked how long I should be waiting before I get any results. Once I told them my story I was told I had a 99% chance of not getting my ship back. So my question is this. What did I do wrong to lose close to 1.8 billion. I didn't go into low sec, I didn't even encounter other players, all I did was try to play the game but instead was refused because of ingame lagging issues. Yet now I apparently have a 1% chance of getting my belongings back. How is this fair? the only reason I ask this big question is this. I have been a player here since June of 06 and run 3 accounts. I know what it means to lose expensive things because I have but not like this. I fear I will end up leaving if it means I lose my belongings for good. So EVE community, what do i do now?
Sincerely,

How can you improve: Don't make walls of text.
Nobody said Eve was fair. Nobody said Eve was lag-free. Just pick yourself back up and brush off all the phaildust, that's the best thing you can do at this point.

ok your wall of text hurt my eyes, but could read some of it.
This is ether a really bad case of lag or desynce. Just try to proof it with a nice polite and logical petition. Dont give up just yet if they say "shit happens".
In case you get "shit happens" then dude shit happens!, deal with it. Its only 1.8 bill :) you can still pvp a lot with only 10% of that ISK. So life is still good.

Filing a polite petition is really the best you can do.
Emphasise that you were at the controls for the whole time period despite the lag in actually being to activate modules.
This thread makes no difference either way probably... or if it does make a difference it hurts your case. EVE RELATED CONTENT |

Concord got buffed again, insurance got nerfed, hisec wardecs will soon be nerfed too.
In high sec only pve lag will kill you and they can't nerf the lag too!
I'm happy that you lost your ship and even happier that your petitions will be refused.

You won't get your ship back because the logs don't show anything but they do wish you a speedy recovery. Also evne if they did miraculously reimburse your ship, any mods that were not destroyed will not be returned.

Khraunus had the best advice, pick yourself back up and get back in it. Everyone who has played Eve for any length of time has had bad days. In the long run the ISK value of that which you lost is not that important. You can always make more ISK and doing so is a good goal actually.
Plus you now have your 'this is how I got screwed' story which is important for being a veteran Eve player.
As (some) said in the Vietnam war - Drive on. It don't mean nothing.

You know I read all of your posts and I agree with them, I really do. (the helpful ones that is)
The thing you have to ask yourself though, is this worth it? Is playing a game for entertainment purposes worth it when the entertainment is gone. I see people comparing Eve to Vietnam. Its not a war its a game. Unlike most situations you either sign up for it or you don't. I didn't sign up for a game with the possibility of major faulty game mechanics. I signed up for an adventure. I basically lost over 100 dollars the other day in ISK to currency and all I have to show for it is. "A story" I don't see the trade off. I don't get how it is acceptable. I deal with clients everyday and I cant say oh hey I am going to charge you more than you planned and you are going to have to deal. That doesn't fly there and I don't see why it should fly here.

the wall o text and story get better, so you bought your way to your ship and basically took a 100 dollar bill and made it go poof! like gambling on the internet... and you want sympathy?
Back in teh day they use to replace ships due to lag, but since their servers are getting shitty every month, now the HI SEC GTC uber nooobs are dying and not getting anything back?

Nowhere have I ever said I bought my way to my ship nor would I. I have been playing eve for years, mission grinding and playing the market is much more sensible. It costs aprox. 35 dollars for a game time card and that is how I play every bi-month. People buy a game time card for around 400 million give or take. I buy time cards around this as well in hopes of a better deal. Gambling on game mechanics should never be a reality.

I don't think I've ever had a ship that I should rightfully get replaced because of a circumstance like this not been replaced. People at CCP are smart. Yes they can't actually see in the logs how/why were were disconnected/de-sync'd/lagged. What I always do is right a giant petition with as much info as to what had happened with great detail about everything that happened to cause the ship loss. They'll either believe you because you were sincere and the explanation/info/detail is legitimate and reimburse your ship (destroyed cargo/mods cannot be reimbursed). Or they'll read through your lies and deception and laugh at you like the gods they are as they stamp you with a fail and reject your petition. Best of luck. If it goes the former. Just pick yourself back up and keep on truck'n don't quit just because the devs say no 1.8 bil ship for you.

Move on.
You have a 1% chance of getting your stuff back because 99% of eve admins don't read petitions. They have a heap of form letters that they send out which are tailored to the subject you filed your request under. I don't file petitions anymore but back when I used to I would intentionally mis-file them to see if they were paying attention. They weren't.
The form letters are customized by each indevidual admin so far as I can tell. Some are as general as possible
'We are investigating your problem and will contact you if anything changes although we can not currently validate your claim, good day.'
I got that about four years ago when I petitioned with the words 'Help! I'm in space!'
Ah good times. Eve admins are FAMOUS for this sort of thing and I would recomend you not to push them. I can tell you from experience that if you find a way to force them to speak to you, they get real real spiteful.
TBH this is one of the things I like about eve online. The game itself is designed to be infinitely hard. From tutorials to economics. From useless ships that cost billions to nano-phoons that can solo capital fleets. Eve has seen it all. There is a specific type of player that plays Eve and I am quite serious about this. We are the people that have found all other games to be a little too easy and crave something which is impossibly hard.
Non-consenual pvp, sudden inexplicable nerfs, node crashes, rolling lag, abusive admins, rampant CCP corruption and peroidic patches which drastically change the rules of the game all in the name of bringing Eve closer to 'The way it was meant to be played!'
This is what keeps us coming back. There are a lot of people that have left because they couldn't handle it but that only makes us more determined to succeed. It's the improbability of success. We're masocists and we're hooked on EVE. Join us.

Honestly I would try maybe missioning in a system which isn't laggy and has very few people in it, you will most likely make more isk even if agent quality is -20.
Also I wouldn't use a faction ship to pve in.
If you do however feel the need to quit Eve after this incident. May I be considered for your stuff.

They are quite good at figuring out if the lag is their fault or your fault. I have gotten a few ships reimbursed from lag death, because it was serverside, and also had a few turned down, because they were clientside. So write the petition and they'll get back to you. If it turns out that lag on your end caused this you'll get nothing back.
Also remember don't fly in a ship you can't afford to lose.

TBH I'm glad whenever someone with this sort of attitude loses a 2 billion isk ship, when you believe that going into lowsec or running into other players is doing something wrong...
What you did wrong was have bad luck. Crap like this happens to everyone, and just because some whiny carebear insists on putting 2 billion isk into one measley ship that can easily die in pve as a result of lag (which btw is more often then not YOUR fault, not CCPs, which is where that 99% chance of not getting your ship back comes from)
Go complain to your ISP, it's most likely not CCPs fault and they have no reason to fix it Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes, ty. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Being that it was patch day, a polite petition might yield yoru rattlesnake back with its destroyed modules, modules dropped would not be reimbursed.
I've found they are more likely to give back after patches than normal times. Good luck.
