Edited by: Shintiel on 04/09/2008 06:34:36 Edited by: Shintiel on 04/09/2008 06:33:46 So here I am, finally getting my head around the Trade skill sets and the crazy world of Eve Trading, and then I see "Visibility".
I read it once, twice, and three times - thinking it to be nearly word for word of that of Procurement. That's where I'm confused.
If it's the same (or close to it, for that matter) why train it? Also, if it's NOT the same (Because I'm still kinda new to Eve) please, for the love of ISK, someone please explain it to me like you would a child.
I'm at a loss, and all help is much appreciated.
Thanks guys. -Shin (Also, sorry for the double post. I thought my browser was fubar'd on me)

Someone explained it pretty cool to me once, think of it like a grenade, one is to how far you can throw it and the other is the blast radius.
Can't remember which way round it is though, there is a sticky in the skills subsection of this forum iirc.

Visibility
Skill at acquiring products remotely. Each level of skill increases your remote buy order range. Level 1 allows for the placing of buy orders within the same solar system, Level 2 extends that range to systems within 5 jumps, and each subsequent level then doubles it. Level 5 allows for a full regional range.
Note: Only remotely placed buy orders (using Procurement) require this skill to alter the range. Any range can be set on a local buy order with no skill.

Edited by: Nareth Mordonis on 04/09/2008 15:07:21 When you place a buy order you can only do it at a station. For example you want to place a buy order for trit, so you fly to a station and place the order (with proper skills you set it for station to region).
Visibility allows you to place the order without being at a station. At level 5 it is region wide so if you want to place the buy order in Jita just jump into the same region and place it for Jita.
*edit* Either that is right or I got Procurement and Visibility mixed up.

Procurement lets you sit in Urlen and place a buy order in Jita, without going to Jita. In order to sell to that order, people will have to bring their goods to Jita, to the station where your order is, before they can click "sell".
Visibility lets you sit in Urlen and place a buy order in Jita that says "I'll buy from anywhere in a radius of 5 jumps from Jita (or 10 jumps, or the entire region). Someone sitting in the armpits of space can right-click and sell to you. YOU will have to go pick up the goods.

Edited by: Luke Rygel on 04/09/2008 15:11:21 The above is not correct.
What he explained is the procurement skill - that is the skill that lets you place a buy order in a station without flying to it.
What visibility does, is let you change the Buy orders RANGE when you are using the procurement skill to put a buy order in a remote station.
edit** actually directly above is correct :) he posted as I was typing, I was referring to the other response ----------------------------------------------

Basically my response is the correct one as it was copied off of the eve online site itself with a link even to the page where the skill is explained............

Yeah, you are both right, it is just that the official description is very ambiguously worded, a clarified version would read.
"Skill at acquiring products remotely. Each level of skill increases your remote buy order range. Level 1 allows for the placing of remote buy orders with a range of within the same solar system, Level 2 extends that range to systems within 5 jumps, and each subsequent level then doubles it. Level 5 allows for a full regional range. This skill does not affect the distance at which the order may be placed, only the range that the placed order may have."

Also, the people who have trained in Visibility, aren't their buy orders highlighted in green compared to those that are without highlight?

No.
The green highlight of buy orders simply highlights those whose range extends to your current location. Visibility only affects the parameters you can set on a buy order when setting it up remotely. Once it's set up, it's a buy order like any other (and entirely equivalent as one placed by someone without visibility from that station).

That's the best simple explanation. Good one.

As I read your statement, one of the first things which comes to mind is this could easily lead to things being bought in low sec, right? If so, how could a player who wants to use visibility, but not get disappointed when they see most of the items from their highly "visible" buy order has racked in numerous places throughout low sec systems?

Restrict the range so it doesn't reach lowsec (count the jumps from the station you plan to place order to nearest lowsec, set range one jump lower).
Other than that... well... learn to survive small trips to lowsec ? Frigates, destroyers, most cruisers and the blockade runners (rigged for agility / mass reduction) should have no problem moving around lowsec... not much of of a problem anyway.
