i see no reason you can't hunt down a giant can exactly as you can hunt down another ship - but since I don't know how to use scan probes to hunt down another ship, I can't help you here. :P ________________________________________________

If they're anchored, would they show up as a corp asset in space? Removed. Please keep your EVE signature related to your EVE persona and not that of a real life politician. Navigator |

best way i can think of: Get a perma MWDing interceptor and go to your 4AU safespot. Use the directional scanner to find which direction the cans are in. Start heading that way. Go to work. Come home. Rescan, adjust your direction. Sleep and so on.
This is only worth it if you have a bunch of officer mods in there because otherwise it's just too much time and effort.

And overshoot in your sleep? If it's between two warpable objects like planets then try warping back and forth dropping a shitload of bookmarks, and start mwding when you get within a few thousand km. |

and how long do you think it would take an 8km/s interceptor to cover 4 AUs? Think about it. Just for a moment. |

Use the time thinking about how to find it and implementing the finding tactic, into doing a couple of missions and make the profit of the loot back.

That's only 576,000km. You're about 598,816,000km short…

…some such, yes. Oh, and add another 5% for downtime and patches and all that. |

You can not use scan probes to locate secure cans in space. If these cans have some precious cargo in them and you really need to find it, you have to do what we used to do back in the old days, before covops, triangulation and the current probe scanning system.
You need to use the directional scanner and do it manually! Yes back in the day it was a real skill to hunt down people in safes, not just launch a probe and press a button.
Locate your sec cans, narrow down to a small angle, then start dropping bms between say, point A and B. Do this over and over again till you get visual on grid.

If they are anchored "for corp," then yes, they do show up as an asset in space for the corporation. The problem is, there is still no way to warp to them from there. It will tell you what system it is in, but not WHERE it is in the system.
You CAN use your directional scanner to track down giant secure containers in space, though it takes practice. If you're a pirate or ever need to track down enemies in your space, it is a good skill to have.
But this has always been the problem with anchorable cans. You anchor them, and if you forget to bookmark them or forget where you put them... you can never find them again.
CCP made some changes awhile back, where cans which have not been opened for 30 days disappear on downtime. It has helped with the can clutter, but it missed the point entirely. It can be very difficult to find our cans if we lose the bookmark, and if we could find and warp to them through "assets", there wouldn't be so many abandoned cans out there.
