Edited by: majorcb on 11/06/2004 11:25:24 Hi, i am not sure what this means: grants a 5% bonus to armor hitpoints per level. So does this make my hull stronger? Plz dont start flaming, English is not my first language Thanks in advance!

Edited by: Celebon on 11/06/2004 11:42:02 It gives any ship you fly 5% more amrour hit points ie if your basic frigate has 100 armour, you get 105 armour when you train the skill to level 1. There is another skill that give 5% increased structure hitpoints.
Each ship has structure, armour and sheild hitpoints to determine your ships total hitpoints as it were. Structure and armour are non-regenerative (they don't come back unless you repair them) but sheilds do regenerate over time. Pull up the show info on your ship and check out the info it give you. The structure, armour and sheilds will have different resistances to different damage types.
Different skills will effect your ship in different ways, such as increasing your hitpoints in different areas. These changes are ONLY for you and the ship goes back to basic when you switch ship/sell it etc. The skills will effect EVERY ship you get into though.

Mechanic skill increases hull strength. There is also a skill for shield strength think its Shield Management but it could be Shield Operation.

shield management = total shield strength
shield operation = shield recharge rate

All remarks above have been correct so far.
Nesides adding armor strangth, hull upgrades also allows you to use modules like armor membranes and armor hardeners that increase the resistance against damage your armor has.
Once you get nto a battleship or cruiser with alot of lowslots you will have figured out how handy this skill has become by then. _______________________________________________

Now that frigates no longer fire instakilling cruise missiles, it's quite handy for frigate combat, too. If you've trained this skill to 4, you get 20% extra armor for free. A frigate with 200 armor all of a sudden has 240, which is quite a nice bonus considering that many frigate weapons do on the order of 20 points for a solid hit.
