After playing with an industry toon, and a missioning toon, I'm fast realising the only way to have real fun in this game is to pirate.
So are there any guides in what direction to train your SP? Is it the same as it would be for a general PVP player?

Well generally skill for the ships you will fly and so on, but hmm if you are an industrial char you migh be able to get a trade for a ready pvp char for your indy char at the char bazaar. |

currently, nano ships so you can make money off of loot (getting away is key) post nerf, you're screwed. |

hmm well
i konw it sounds rather stupid, but maybe you should make another char to pirate?
or take your missioning char and pirate with him or something, because if your a good pirate, you will be evicted to low sec FOREVER until you rat your sec status back up, so you can use your industry character to haul stuff out to your pirate char
so either use your missioning char which should have some ok offenseive and defensive skills or create another one is the only thing i can think of really

uhh no best way to pirate is get yourself in a rifter nano fit it and go around shooting stuff at belts and you'll be shot at a lot but that's normal for the first few months

SnigWaffe was cool, learned quite a bit about fleet work with them.
But nothing - NOTHING - can replace fitting a cheap ship, going out, finding stuff to shoot, getting shot back, etc. It's the best way to learn the scanner, it's the best way to learn mechanics, etc.

Rubbish. There is no need to fly nanoships to make ISK.
If anything, you're unable to kill haulers/etc under sentries properly (and think, where will the high ISK stuff be, moving from gate to gate, or sitting in a belt?).
Also, getting away assumes there are no cloaky rapiers. Which you cannot guarantee

Rubbish! Haulers are easily killed under gateguns with a LSE'd fleet stabber! I imagine with vagabond it's even easier due to higher resists.
Rapiers are a scary though...
