Gentoo amd64 2008.0 stable nvidia-drivers 173.14.09 Wine 1.1.0 (With DirectX native installed, see link below) EVE Premium Graphics.
Works flawless for me, straight away, no ****ing around with it at all. (unlike the official version which took days to get to crash at splash screen)
Only problem at first was that user portraits were half missing, it has corrected itself.
I have not tested shadows, HDR, or sound/eve voice (just moved, speakers are packed)
Dual 1024x768 clients both average 40FPS even while compiling gcc.
Dual clients and EVE in general run noticeably better than on the same system while running Windoze XP.
localhost ~ # uname -a Linux localhost 2.6.25-gentoo-r7 #5 SMP PREEMPT Fri Sep 5 16:48:10 EDT 2008 x86_64 Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

tricks;
Make sure you have a working and updated stable Gentoo >> emerge --update --deep --newuse world
Set EVE cache to low.

Feature Suggestion!
Add a tick box in ESC menu for OS/Emulator statistic collection.
Purpose being that CCP can see how many of us are actually using EVE under wine and adjust their support away from cedega accordingly.

I'm pretty sure that the EVE client already sends the host OS to CCP. Wine stores it's settings in the registry, so, it should be really easy to check for a wine registry entry, then report wine back to CCP.
I'm interested in whether or not CCP actually does this, or if I'm just sending "Windows XP" back to CCP.

I doubt it, I think it's safe to assume that Wine says it is whatever you set it to.. WinXP, WinVista etc.
Which is why I suggested the manual tick box.

When running eve, could you please alt-tab to a terminal and run nvclock -i? Im curious to see if your gpu fanspeed mode appears as "manual" and GPU temp nearing 90c...
If i don't do nvclock -f -F auto on every reboot thats exactly what it happens to mine. -- Running Eve Online Premium with Ubuntu 8.04 |

nvclock is a masked package.
However, gkrellm reports;
GPU A 107.6F GPU C 136.4F
nvidia-settings reports;
Core Temp 58C Ambient Temp 42C
While running two windowed clients with all the perks turned on but hdr and shadows.

TeamSpeak - Works Ventrillo - Works EVE Voice - Works

One oddity to report.
When I use the logoff button under ESC menu, ALSA breaks when client restarts.
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:996:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
I have to exit client and restart to get sound to work once more.

I've been running it with Gentoo for a while now as well. But, for some reason now I'm getting a "split" screen in my client. Not sure why. Something I'll have to play around with the settings a bit. But, does seam to run better. And, the nice thing is even with 2 clients running, the Nvidia card seams to run cooler. I'm running in Gnome at the moment, but will probably switch over to xfce4 just to reduce overhead even more.
