Ok, first off, I know that some of you are immediately going to reply with flames and stfu and gtfo, etc, etc, but hey, thats C&P so I'm gonna post anyway.
I have been a career carebear in this game for my 3 or so months of playtime and I've had a most interesting thing happen to me over the past weeks. Several months ago I had my first experience with pvp and ebil piwates, on the insistance of the ceo of my corp at the time, I hopped in my ill equipped Myrmi with my shitty skills, and headed out to low sec as part of a corp gang. Needless to say, 4 unskilled, ill-experienced carebears die about as quickly as sleepy sheep. That scared me and sent me back to my carebear cave where I quickly learned to fly a BS and grind lvl IV missions. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I was feeling frisky so I hopped in a Tristan and headed for low sec once again. I cruised around looking for red flashies without much luck, didn't want to lose security and didn't want to be an ebil piwate. A red flashy inty found me and sent me back to high sec, but this time I was not scared, I managed to get away with my pod and felt it was a fun experience. So, a couple of days ago I refitted the tristan and took off to null, spent the night running around looking for red flashies. Was a boring night jumping around until I made a bad jump and got gate camped and podded. For some reason, even the podding and the 10's of millions of loss due to the implants didn't discourage me, I felt good for learning a bit of a lesson. So, the next night, I fitted out an incursus and headed back to low sec. Found a couple of guys running around in a sector, one was a tackler nano rifter, the other was a neut cruiser / drone carrier. The rifter was running as bait / tackle with the cruiser holding back. I had been tracking him on the ship scanner and saw him leave one belt heading for another. I jumped in behind him. When I got there he was not red flashy, but I decided to hell with it, red flashy, not red flashy, makes no difference, exploding ships look the same. So I jumped him, immediately got my web and scram on him, called out my hob II and opened up with the electron II blasters. The frig popped and I warped out right as the cruiser was warping in.
So the question is, might I be starting to shed this carebear coat? All of a sudden, highsec no long seems appealing. Those red crosses on my screen no longer seem like such attractive targets, instead I'm being drawn to the white, yellow, and red boxes.
Welp, thats it, just figured I'd share my experience a bit and I figured that with all the posts on C & P right now, this couldn't be the worst or most useless. Enjoy. -----------------------------------------------

Thread delivers. Good story. And yes, piracy is much more fun than missions. So much more fun. --------

Edited by: techzer0 on 06/09/2008 19:29:25 Highsec is a good place to take a break, a VERY short break, but lowsec/0.0 is the most enjoyable... welcome to the "dark" side (or really the only fun way to waste isk in eve) ------------

That's how it begins. My advice to you would be to keep doing it, stick to inexpensive frigates and T1 cruisers while you get used to PvP. For all the whine threads you see, your story tells us that you already know solo PvP and lowsec belt piracy aren't entirely dead. Tristan, Incurses, Thorax, Vexor - whatever mood you're in at the time, go for it.
Make some friends along the way, maybe find your way into a more pvp-oriented corp and you're all set :)

Some of the biggest, fluffiest carebears I know live in 0.0. At least in one body. Being shot is a small part of it, you need some bloodlust and urge for epeen to bust out of the carebear cocoon.
Instead of building shiny toys you must want to break shiny toys others are playing with. Use that big fat carebear wallet to CRUSH your enemies, drive them before you and listen to the lamentation of their exotic dancers.
And I don't mean by buying expensive faction fitted ships to provide someone a payday either.

Only carebears get flamed here. You have proven yourself otherwise. Welcome to the dark side . Keep it up and I highly reccomend you find a good PVP corp to learn more. _______________

Just smoked a retriever that was at a gate in my incursus, not sure if I'm going to have benefitted from it or no, waiting on agress timer, but still, a smoked barge is a smoked barge. -----------------------------------------------

He is indeed speaking of the changes made to concord. It is now extremely hard to pull of a suicide gank in high sec. Takes some good ships with well coordinated pilots, much more so than before anyway, to pull of a suicide gank as you pretty much have to alpha the target now. So, in other words, if you have a decent tank, or aren't worth killing you can no longer be non-consentually pvped. Btw, most would agree, going to low sec is consenting to lose ship / pod. -----------------------------------------------
