Hi All, I won't grumble about being ganked in low sec, I know it's "Part of the Game". It's still bummed IMHO on peeps that are chillin mining a Kern or a Hedberg rock. ANYWAY, any sugesstions for securing a solo mining ship?? I'm thinkin Rokh, hmmmnnnn......... ----- ----- Anticipation of Death is Worse than Death Itself, But Gankers Suk!! |

if you're going solo mining in lowsec, its pretty much impossible to be truly secure, any decent mining fit will make it pretty esay for any halfway competent roaming gang to pop you. My advice would be don't worry so much about surviving, worry more about using affordable/disposable ships and gear - as long as the profits from your mining is more than the value of whatever you loose, you're alright.
another tactic is to train for covops and scanning, then hunt down some gravimetric sites and mine there. The site can still be scanned down by pirates, but many roaming gangs will check the asteroid belts and then move on for easier prey, buying you some security.

I'm not sure you need to bother tanking anything other than the npcs. For gankers a combination of Warp Core Stabilizers, staying aligned to something to warp to and a good eye on local is probably the best way to increase your odds.

Try mining in Providence region. It's 0.0, but the area is NRDS, so most people won't shoot you. If you set you standings such that CVA, Ageis Militia, IAC, Sylph, Severence and one other alliance I can't quite remember as blue, you'll have about 80% of the locals as friendly. Now you just have to worry about a few randoms that might come into local.
By and large the 0.0 is quiet, so I wouldn't worry too much. It's far safer then low-sec for example. Back when I was living there I'd autopilot around.
Ore in the region is pretty craptacular for a 0.0 region, but it has Hedge, Hemo and everything else high-sec/low sec has.

Originally by: Trancehacker Example, In Halada's Mining Guide, He says on an Osprey I should be able to fit 3 T2 Miners and Two Mining Uprade II's with MineUpGrd Lvl 4 and Electronics Lvl 5, which I have, And still do a good tank, But I can't do that fit. I guess I'm Missin somethin =/
I've done that build as a high sec miner. It's got enough tank for NPC rats but not enough for lowsec.
I've had some success with using an Osprey with nothing but basic tech I mods as a lowsec miner. Anybody who scans it sees its not worth wasting ammo or time on so I mostly get left alone and its cheap enough to replace real easy for those who shoot first.

Unless you enjoy the thrill of the chase (in your case being chased) mining is more lucrative in High-sec than low or null sec. Buy the zydrine and megacyte you need, all other minerals are available in high-sec ore.
I once tried the low-sec ninja-mining bit, but once I discovered the lousy yield of rare ores I realized it was a waste of time.
