Edited by: Darkeen on 08/09/2008 04:34:23 Hello All,
I'm looking at EFT and have No idea what to put in a Mackinaw setup. I'm working my skills up for the following Setup:
[Mackinaw] 2xIce Harvester II 0x4 Med Slots 1xIce Harvester Upgrade II 1xExpanded Cargohold II 2xCargoHold Optimization I Rigs (5x Hobgoblins/Warriors are there to take care of rats...)
With a CPU of 185.2/235 and PG of 21/40.25,
the question is what do you put in the Mid slots?
Would you put cap batteries when you cant even get a warp core stabiliser inside (lack of low slots?) Keeping the expanded Cargohold means I can carry two full cycles of ice back to station rather one and a half that being without it would mean....
Anyone have any ideas what would be a better setup and how can I use the Mid slots for anything useful?
Or should I leave out all cargo expeners and rigs and leave it as a minimal setup to reduce cost "when" I get ganked?
Regards,
Jason Brisbane

Resistance amp, small sb, sensor boost for siccing drones on those annoying bc's that orbit at the limit of locking range...
Fitting is a factor...

[Mackinaw] Ice Harvester Upgrade II Co-Processor II
Sensor Booster II V-M15 Braced Multispectral Shield Matrix Eutectic I Capacitor Charge Array Pithi B-Type Small Shield Booster
Ice Harvester II Ice Harvester II
Cargo opt rigs for high sec Maybe shield rigs for low sec/null
This is not an AFK mining throw away setup. Build is good against NPC rats, not so much for PvP. With the current price of ice this is probably way overkill, I've given up ice mining myself.
Note: the setup requires the Gypsy KMB-50 to have enough CPU. I use it anyway for my Hulk.

Got nothing in mine either
2x Ice Harvester II + 2x Ice Harvester Upgrade II
Is all I can fit and that needs the above mentioned hardwiring
I only do High Sec mining and use a hauler so works well for me

If it makes you feel any better, you can fit a Civilian Shield Booster in with the Ice Harv II x2 + Ice upgrade II x2 fit. It really doesn't add any tank to speak of, but it does make the shiny bubble around your ship.
Really there are two fits for a Mack, max yield and the semi-afk.
Max yield has 2x Ice Upgrade II's in the lows and shield resist rigs (cause they're absurdly cheap). Use this if you mine with a hauler handy and protection (if not in high-sec).
Semi-afk uses 2x Expander II's in the lows and cargo rigs. Use this one for sitting in high sec so you only have to once in a long while. Your isk/hour will be much worse in comparison, but you can do this while (mostly) afk. Should be able to fit a decent tank on this fit, since you'll have plenty of space left.

Edited by: Darkeen on 09/09/2008 00:13:26 Thanks all!
I was planning on getting the Gypsy for Slot 6 anyways...

Edit: I never AFK mine anyway. I not going to risk getting ganked if I can help it, so I usually ice mine 200+km away from the warp in point. It gives me a few moments for those warping in randomly... Regards,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't people warp direct to you from 200km away? It might be better to be 75-100km from the warp in point, or allow the gankfleet to warp directly on top of you.
Just a thought.
BTW do you refine the ice yourself as well?

Only works if you're in the same gang as them - otherwise getting a warp-in on a sniper fleet would be easy.
They could warp to your jetcan though, if you drop one.

Edited by: PwrPuffGirl on 09/09/2008 12:41:44 Here is what i use
High - 2x Ice Harvester II
Mid - Pithi B-type small shield booster
Low - Cargo expander II Ice mining upgrade II
Rigs - 2x cargo optimizers
This gives 319sec cycle time and a cargohold of 8600+m3
I mine ice all the time and this i find to be the best setup so far if u do not want to jetcan.

If this is mining in high-sec you do not need any defensive mods in the mid-slots. The rats can't do enough dps to break your shield.
Just put cap rechargers in there.
if your worried about pirates or are in low sec, then you will require a faction shield booster, and some hardeners.

While that is true they could just as easily warp to the ice you are mining without any issues.

Hi,
I have 4 drones (will be training 5th after I get Mining barge V) and they take care of all rats in high sec so it isnt a problem... I was just wanting to know what I could put in there in case PvP'ers came through (am in 0.5 area).
I realise that they could simply warp to me, nearby ICE, jetcans, etc but if a couple of ships suddenly appeared at the 0km mark (or nearabots) then it would give me the few seconds I need to highlihgt, click info, see a frigate/cruiser/BS/etc and click the warp out icon for me!
So every few seconds I can get would be good.
Its a pity that the warp core stabilisers, and other nice goodies are all low slots... It might provide another extra few seconds to get the heck out of Dodge!

you cant tank them and you align and and eccel to warp speed in around 13 sec
if you fit something that could tank em its much expensive, they just bring a second or 4 ships to kill you
look up jihad swarm .. and look at some of the fittings that ppl use and still got killed .....

Lt Pizi, I thought that it might not be worth throwing everything into A Mac...
It will be better to keep a lean ship (Ice Harvester II and IH Upgrade II and might leave it at that. That way the insurance covers the Mac and I'm only left with minimal cost for modules...
Thank you all anyway!
