My main can fly all races Heavy Interdictors. He's almost got Graviton Physics up to lvl4, but having never flown a HIC I'm seeking some help with choosing.
He'll mainly be using the ship for lo-sec gatecamping.
Questions:
1. If my gangmates leave the camp for a while, would it be advisable to stay on the gate alone? 2. Best choice of ship is which? [Main has maxed missiles and maxed gunnery]. 3. Is it feasible to use one for belt hunting or indeed anything remotely solo?

Personally I like the broadsword because it has more balanced resists and can be more easily fit out for speed. Alternatively a missile onyx can hit for full damage at the end of the bubble while a broadsword relies on barrage and falloff "losing damage in the process". Both ships are excellent. _______________

Because they have to tank on their own when using the area effect gadget and collective wisdom is to have a nice shield buffer tank for that as it regenerates. The broadsword is also: V E R T I C A L
While the Onyx has missles... nuf said. Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

It's not that simple. You stated lowsec, so the WDFG Field isn't an option, so you'll be using the focused script and will be able to receive remote reps.
You'll also want sensor boosters to lock before your target warps, and a web to web it early before it approaches the gate, and maybe even an ECCM. MWD goes without saying. These factors favour the armour-tankers in lowsec. Phobos has an extra midslot, so that would be the better choice.
Of course, you could use a remote-sensor-boosted and ECCM-projected Onyx/Broadsword, and get a similar effect. But remote reps are generally more useful in gang than remote sensor boosters, so it would be a suboptimal choice.

You're going to have to get used to that. HICs do crap for damage. You're probebly going to rely on your allies for DPS. Kind of cancels out the range bonus on the missiles for me anyways.
Also you can use the warp field with the script to target one person in lowsec for infinate points. You just can't use the bubble. _______________

It's the only one that can fit easily mwd cap booster web eccm... Which goes a long way ensuring the tackled stuff will stay tackled. The passive shield tankers are vulnerable to neut and the Devoter don't have room for eccm...
Also IMHO the best ability to solo stuff, full tackle + sensor booster + possibility to be fit for a decent gank.
IMHO hictors are very well balanced, each having their strong points. Under sentries the passive shield tankers are the easy choice, broadsword got better natural resists but Onyx resists match sentry damage better. Both do very crap damage. -- I'm done whining about AFs, it looks like they are making them right \o/ |

unless it was changed in last weeks patch, you cannot recieve remote reps or remote sensor boosting with the focused point active either

Just for ****s and giggles I setup a phobos last night on the test server and I easily killed and tanked 2x BS angel rats and 3x frigs. I'm only commenting because someone mentioned being able to rat in them. The phobos seems to do more dps than the other HICs but it's tank isn't nearly as good. Still if you kill them before they kill you, you don't really need an uber tank. The greatest weakness of a HIC is NOS/NEUT. That makes the onyx and the broadsword the obvious choice. If you have better gun skills go for the broadsword. Better missile skills, the onyx.

i got my information from the fact remote reps wouldnt activate on a HIC using the focused script. Last weeks patch may have changed this, why I said that.

You're right, I just tested it several minutes ago with this char in a Broadsword and my other char in a Thanatos.
The remote shield transferer can't activate and I get a message.

I'd say onyx, because of its awesome tank. But whatever you do, dont get the Phobos. ____________________________________ dis mah sig |

Broadsword has better buffer/passive due to the EM resist boost. Does more for Invuls as opposed to onyx having to plug that hole.

Oh and with perfect fitting skills and a few fitting implants you could fit a set of 5 HP II's instead and have 222 DPS. Not too bad for a HIC.
And offline the salvager for a heatsink and after the fight for battlefield cleanup.

If you are in 0.0 and you are going to use your bubble - then the Broadsword and Onyx is the way to go. I prefer the Broadsword because of its speed and passive tank. I fit my Onyx with an active tank which I find is superior to a passive one as long as I have 800 charges. . .but thats another debate.
In low sec though, the Devoter is the hands down winner because you fit Sensor Boosters in the mids which does not diminish your tank, and allows you to be a very effective tackler.
oh, and damage from a HIC is irrelivant, you are on every KM anyway because of the bubble. . .so its not like logistics ships where you fit a single heavy missle and cycle through the targets just to show up on mails. . .
anyway, I would fly the broadsword. . . ----

low-sec?
if it's low-sec, you can't use the WDFG in field mode, and the need to actually target the guy to put the focussed infini-point on him, means that you will be better off with a phobos or a devoter, simply because you can dedicate mid slots to sensor boosters.
if it's 0.0, then the broadsword and the onyx with their ZOMFG passive tanks are the best choice. ---

Can your wallet take the hit if you guess wrong and trouble shows up? You can tank the sentry guns easily and kill haulers/T1 cruisers/frigates, and you can probably survive long enough to de-aggro and jump out against larger targets. However, if you get too overwhelmed, say goodbye to your expensive ship.
Quote: 2. Best choice of ship is which? [Main has maxed missiles and maxed gunnery].
Onyx or Broadsword. Onyx normally wins because Caldari Cruiser V is more useful than Minmatar Cruiser V, but you say you can fly both of them equally well. I'd take the Onyx, since missiles have the range to contribute a bit, while ACs really don't.
Quote: 3. Is it feasible to use one for belt hunting or indeed anything remotely solo?
Not really, unless you're REALLY paranoid about stabs. The damage is just too low to break a decent target's tank in a reasonable amount of time. Even if you can slowly kill something, you're leaving yourself vulnerable to other ships showing up. Meanwhile your tank is massive overkill against the targets your limited dps will actually let you engage. For belts, you'll be much better off with something more gank-focused.
You CAN solo gatecamp pretty well, it's a very nice ship for ganking haulers.

If you have scouts, yes, if you don't, no. You may be able to deaggro/jump if things go bad, but then again, they might have a tackler on the other side and you die.
Originally by: Ceremony Garp
2. Best choice of ship is which? [Main has maxed missiles and maxed gunnery].
For a smaller camp, probably Broadsword or Onyx. Just get someone to remote sensor boost you when your scouts report something incoming, and you can sit on gate perma-agressed easy without your gang mates having to share aggro. Broadsword gets away fine with a local sensor booster, anyway.
Devoter/Phobos have to burn 800s unless you're sharing sentries with other people (who also can get by without burning 800s), but they're still good if you intend to warp in only when scouts report something or something shows up on scan. Being capable of sitting perma-agressed has definite advantages anyway.

3. Is it feasible to use one for belt hunting or indeed anything remotely solo?
Not really. Yes, if you're attacking a known stabmonkey in same cirrumstances. Otherwise, no. You're too vulnerable to getting tackled / killed, and you take too long to kill targets. Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Falcon = god Cerberus/Eagle = excellent fleet HACs Vulture = excellent fleet CS Nighthawk = will be good once it gets the long overdue grid fix
Vagabond = awesome now, about to be nerfed heavily Muninn = trash Sleipnir = awesome now, about to be nerfed Claymore = poor fleet CS, sucky Sleipnir in small gangs Rapier = awesome now, about to be nerfed heavily
While Minmatar ships are good now, by the time you can get the skills trained the long overdue nano nerf will take away the overpowered win button setups. Since the Broadsword and Onyx are essentially equal, the decision comes down to which other ships you want to get, and I'll take the Falcon, Cerberus and Vulture over a bunch of mediocre short-ranged scrap heaps.
