As per Gnautons announcement at the RP summit this evening, this thread is a refresher of what was said about the Arc and where feedback can be left on it.
An experimental arc begins tomorrow which is part of a new plan that has been designed to increase the co-ordination between CCP's story line department and Aurora.
In a nutshell, the Events team's producers have been split into four teams - each team representing one of the four empires including the associated minorities.
Large, and small arcs will be created, and then executed through in-game news and physical events, allowing for greater player interaction with the storyline.
Each producer will be given only the side of the story that pertains to his/her's empire/factions, and given the oppourtunity to come up with events related to these. The whole story/goal will not be available to anyone but CCP and myself.
The stories themselves will contain smaller arcs, and our goal is to structure them somewhat like the seasons of a television show - a slow buildup (10-20 events over a months peroid perhaps), then a mid-point where story development takes place - and then finally a massive climax.
The arc we are starting tomorrow to test this idea is going to take place over a three month peroid. Alongside this you will have your continuing normal events/unrelated ones.
The NPC's that are prominent in the storyline at any given moment can be addressed by players through GALnet, and it's entirely possible that creative RP through the forums will yield changes in where the story goes -- that is, if your powers of persuasion are enough to convince the relevant NPC's to change their actions.
The primary things we're shooting for here are flexibility and greater interaction for you all.
The only hint we are going to give about the Arc itself is to watch the News tomorrow
Feedback regarding the execution of this event can be directed towards [email protected] which is re-directed towards CCP and myself.

This description of the coming arc and the new "event infrastructure" behind it does indeed sound very exciting to me. I will definitely watch the news tomorrow.

Looking forward to this one very much myself. Nebulai - will there be events in 0.0 space, and not just in empire? --------

That has already happened, at least once... and yes, it was recently...

Bravo.
This sounds like a wonderful development in a game that just gets better and better. I for one look forward to reading the news and stories and hope that even those who do not role play that often give it a chance.
Though I have spent most of my initial time skill building and agent running, I have tried to follow the backstory as much as possible. This sounds like a great chance to jump right into the storyline and perhaps give something back in return.
Good luck

This is good news
I've been hoping that the player driven events aspect of eve would get more attention. That's why a few months ago I applied to Polaris... err the ISD as it's now being called. I wanted to see if I could help out with events aspect of EVE. So far I haven't had much luck in getting a response to my app though
Quick question: In the app I checked both STAR and AURORA but my greater interest is in the AURORA events team. Should I go back and change that? Or will doing that reset my place in the application review line?
It's been a while since I sent the application in but I'm still very much interested in helping out. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

Edited by: Sammira on 08/07/2004 10:50:24 ( Afaik, Arc is the name for the part of the story being run in the context of the WEVE storyworld. Each arc can containt multiple player events and can even be parts of larger story arcs. For example, i've seen at least what, 10 GFTL arc events and participated in 2 though they are still part of the same story arc.
There is a long running GFTL story arc revolving around the works of a Gallente tour company GFTL in placid, a story arc concerning sanchas pirates called "in his Image", the Tal-Ramon catherdral move story arc, the Crielere labs saga arc, as well as racial arcs like the Jovians Arc etc etc
The story arcs can be Aurora or CCP derrived. For example, the GFTL arc is afaik purely aurora, the Tal-Ramon Cathedral move is both CCP and Aurora and the Jovian visitation arc was purely CCP.
I've had all three of my characters take part in different events through WEVE. All have been really good fun and even if I didn't end up with anything (isk nor standing rewards) I've certainly taken great enjoyment from them. )

They cant be advertised widely because the game cannot cope with 500+ people heading to one location to take part in an event that was only designed for 50.
Events that are geared towards most of the players will be advertised, otherwise the events will only be advertised locally, (ie. you will know about them as they happen if you are in the region, or systems that the event is taking place).
The idea is that there is many things happening in the world of eve, and one day you might be a part of something larger than your individual life. Its that rather than "this is eve, come to here at so and so for this, go to there at such a time for that".
Taken from the May 29th 2003 Devchat at EveGate . <Muaddid> Q: When will sentry gun and station and similar construction pods be introduced on the market? <Hellmar> we have various player owned entities already implemented. Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. We are still working out the last tidbits of how they can be over taken, what is the penalty of having a sentry gun kill a n00b etc. and we have been a bit busy with plugging the holes that people have found.I would say that you'd start to see these items on the market in about 2-3 weeks, very expensive to begin with |

I always wondered how to get involved in those events. If they are advertised localy, through which medium are they advertised

( look in local chat for the teal (blueish or greenish text usually) coloured text. These are the events team actors who are playing roles in the event storys.
There has been one case where there was an actor who didn't have teal text due to a mix up in creation. But i think stuff like that is very rare, so just be on the look out for the coloured chat channel text. )

I was wondering on this... i had a strong discussion with tetrimon when they were opposing the emperor) a while back and they said they will think on it... the problem is that they seem to have stopped that route and now everyone is confused at where they stand.
Could it be possible for the events teams to announce their changes in what their plans are so that we do not get confused.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |
