Edited by: Ambrosious Martin on 10/09/2008 02:39:30 I have noticed one thing in EVE the entire time I have played and it makes no sense to me. Everyone seems to be obsessed over a killmail... It seems to me that people are willing to compromise the 'proper' fitting of there ships in order to fulfill a sense of necessity. The necassity I'm speaking of is the aparent need to appear on a killmail.
By appearing on that mail does it somehow signify to you more that you were in the fight?
Does it settle well with you that your comprimising your squad, or gang, however you wish to say it. I just read a thread speaking about how logistics ships will fit one missle launcher so they can cycle thru targets just to appear on the killmail. This is outragious! If I ever found out that one of my gang mates was sacrificing a highslot to fit a missle launcher, I would have the gang POD him ourselves.
Ive also noticed everyone says that 1v1's or small gang warfare is all but dead! How in the hell is it dead when all the setups we pass between each other for our ship are all based on how to fly the ship solo!! I KNOW THIS IS A MAJOR ***** THREAD! But I just cant stand watching it anymore...Flame away!
*edit* ok I wanted you all reading this to reply why you care so much about a killmail!!

it is concrete proof that you killed someone
that said, who cares unless it is one of those crazy kills. anyone dumb enough to fit a weapon on a logistics ship in order to get on killmails is stupid.

when I'm in my logistics ship, my gang knows how well I'm doing based on lack of loss mails.
You would think CCP would have added things like, "Amarr", "CCP", "Microwarpdrive", etc. to their forum dictionary.

You'll find the reason people in logistial ships etc are gettnig on KMs is because when you're in charge of larger quantities of people KMs are the only way they can guage your activity.
Personnaly I think they should be scrapped I think they bring nothing to game except KB snobbery, which is counter productive to PvP IMO.

I despise several things about the killmail system, that said, posting killmails and lossmails allows CEOs to accurately assess individual players activity and ability.
If you have a player in your corp that is working with a 3-1, 10-1, or w/e ratio you think is bad, you can properly identify them and work with them to improve on whatever they may be doing wrong.
Killmails also help you with splitting up loot, if you're on the mail you get a cut of the profits. Being able to see, on the mail, who participated in taking down a target allows you to quickly give pilots payouts. It works out quite well.
The major thing I would change about the whole system is have it send a copy of the mail to every pilot on it, that would make life a helluva lot simplier. Another change would be to have a CCP ran killboard that logged all the kills and losses so that we could just do away with killboards and all just use one. Would be mint if it worked with the ingame browser.

That just makes you a, a.... bad person.
And don't killmails tell you how much damage you dealt, to who, in what ship, who else was there, what got destroyed/dropped....? Or does none of that matter?

I would to, everyone knows logistics ships fit ewar in the mids, not weapons in the highslots, geez

This.
However, it must be too difficult or surely CCP would've done this by now ?
But given a choice of wa*king on stations or integrated CCP killboard in-game, what would you pick ?

I love killmails, but believe me, people don't want to appear on the killmail. They want to RECEIVE the killmail, meaning they had the final blow. Most damage is also a plus for a killmail you're on. So, killmails are good and I like to have them.

Some people like statistics and like to keep statistics of their achievements simply because it is fun to see what ships you have flown the most and what weapons you have used the most, there is no harm in it, but I'll admit to being a total killmail whor who fits focused beam on guardian and missile launcher on curse / scimitar just for getting on km's

That may ring true in large scale fights and what not, maybe they could just send it to each corp involved? 500 man gang - 20 corps idk, would maybe make it more plausible. Hunting down killmails with mixed corp gangs gets tedious.

IIRC they were checking how the new killmail system was progressing server-load wise. Then, CCP said they were thinking of implementing a program at downtime which added all the kills you've been involved in to your combat log.

I can do one better. An incursus-like shipboner which increases in length in relation to pilot's killmail count. That way your arrival in the system can be heralded by your enormous epeen, with the rest of your ship showing up several seconds later.
At one point I thought about running an eve-biz offering ship kills for hire. You know, pay some number of M, get to gank a BS in high or low sec. Great value for the GTC selling killmail *****s. Turned out to be too much work, so I scrapped the idea.
The reason killmails are valuable is: get into an argument on the forums and sooner or later someone is going to trot out your KB stats.

agreed, I am on the top a lot, but it's the little t1 frig with the fast rof the gets the last hit-lol
My reasons, few of them have been stated above.
1. it allows you to see who in the corp/alliance that is doing well, and who could use some help/practice.
2. Help to divide the loot, although if anyone lost a ship, they are always the first to claim.
3. I also use it to see what ships were used against me and the corp/alliance in the past, to guess what they migh tbe in this next encounter
4. Some use it as braking rights. I have had pirates come into a system, link mine and his, and say how uber he was over me, only to leave 1 ship less then they came in with. Signature removed. On the subject, I remember hearing about certain Drake pilots firing one launcher at each enemy, so they can pile up all the killmails they could possibily get.
At least then, the damage amounts were not displayed on the KMs .

well from my experience the killmail system and killmail is a good tool, some of the benefits are as ill list.
1. setups (did it work or not) 2. what is the enemy flying (pref ships and sutch) 3. who is the agressor (ill give a little story about that one) 4. enemy activety time zone 5. has enemies help from alts and sutch and the list goes on.
regarding the story it happend 2 years ago and was a blue on blue incident, a member of a corp (dead corp now) called forge op's was aproached by coreli corp to join.
coreli corp was doing ganks so they where hostile to us and other corps, one of our members (corp was called dirty dudes) was ganked by the coreli and the forge op's member.
he logged of in anger and didnt post KM or give intel on corp mail's, later that evening the forge op's member was in gang and on TS and led several into a ambush.
this is a story i tell my members to show them the importance of posting losses aswell as kills, regarding the dude that betrayed us .....yeah we ganked and podded him bit later

I love killmails, and I especially love Killboards.
If ever a merc needed a reliable source of information regarding the location, numbers, ship types and fittings, general skill etc on a corp; look no further than a KB. A veritable goldmine.
But still, with the KBs it encourages rivalry amongst fellow pvpers; and lets the ceo know whats going on and who is killing the KB effiency etc.
Rawr.
BTW, if you want to be a KM ***** - train dictors.

I've always just thought of them as after action reports. You check how well you did, or didn't do, and usually you can tell what you could do to improve.
As far as posting kill mails, I think there's something wrong with the whole system simply because there is no official board.
