EDIT: That looks very cool though. I may actually be forced to buy a platform system for the first time since the dreamcast.

concept sounds good, but if your into the mythos its a bit galling as those renegades are hit by several bolter shots and just get back up. Considering one boltershot can destroy a car, it seems a though were gonna be fighting invulnerenemies. If they reduced their strength greatly and just had hundreds of them. that would be awesome. The technology for that is near us now, look at the mass enemy charge in gears of war 2

Edited by: pwnedgato on 10/09/2008 17:12:30 That is what I thought, and they probably can still do something similar seeing as how that is just the first playable build (or just say they are mutated enough to not care much about giant holes >.>). At least there aren't any shell cases flying from the bolter.
Originally by: Micheal Dietrich THQ will have the MMO in a few years
I think this is a sign that in the MMO you will not get to play as a space marine. Something that I'm actually glad about because in order to balance them for gameplay they would have had to break the lore horribly.

Most definately, no playable space marines plox. That would be overpowered and gay. You could make it so it was like the jedi class in old SWG but harder. But again to fit in, every human char would have to start at the age of 12, and if certain difficult prerequisits were reached by a deadline, then i guess i could live with it

Meh, looks like the chainsword-equipped seargent in most Space Marine squads. I'd like to command the squad myself in that case. Being solo is good and all, but Space Marines fight in squads.
Where's the squad dynamic? -

Actually what i'd like to see if some form of fighter game for 40k. Like your a khornate beserker participating in gladitorial combat with other marines and chaos spawn. It could be disgusting, gory and chaosy all at the same time.

Looks naff. A basic, bog standard 3rd-p shooter, only witha butchered take on the IP. Why is a Marine sergeant on his own? Where is his squad? Why can he take on 100's of enemy soldiers by himself? Why is his bolter so feeble? Why on earth doesn't he have any allies? Why does he seem to be immune to enemy guns and power-weapons? Why are the "traitor guards" armed with bullet guns, instead of lasguns?
Not a happy chappy. ------

It looks fairly decent, but the W40k lore means the choice of weapons will be fairly limited, maybe 4 cc and 8-9 ranged weapons, and the killing animations might become tiring after a few hours... ------------------------------------------

Sadly, my thought as well. Those killmoves looks nice but will eventually grow tiresome.
Originally by: Patch86 Why is a Marine sergeant on his own? Where is his squad?
Marines is known to be resourceful even if the get cut off from their squad, or being the last surviving member. The fight never ends until he`s dead as well.
Originally by: Patch86 Why can he take on 100's of enemy soldiers by himself?
He¦s a Space Marine. Duh!
Originally by: Patch86 Why is his bolter so feeble?
Agreed. It lacks some "thuddiness" to it.
Originally by: Patch86 Why on earth doesn't he have any allies?
Dead, gone or home for tea break. Your guess is as good as mine.
Originally by: Patch86 Why does he seem to be immune to enemy guns and power-weapons?
Immune to enemy guns = lots of armour. Immune to power weapons = have no idea. Bad coding?
Originally by: Patch86 Why are the "traitor guards" armed with bullet guns, instead of lasguns?
Bullet weapons is used by the Imperium as well. Its cruder but easier to manufacture than las-weapons (even if the lasrifle is a wonder for the ease of logistics). Bullet weapons such as autoguns got about the same stopping power as a lasrifle.
Have I`ve been reading too much fluff? No siree!

May I comment that there have been stories of single marines heading out to accomplish a goal. See 13th legion series for details.

Find out for yourself. I have no doubt whatever response you would have would be just as ignorant and worthless as your first. Also despite being worthless I saw fit to reply to it so as to prevent others from being confused.

Im guessing you have never looked at a Codex before.. or read any of the lore really..
Bolters fire a mini rocket encased in a shell..
Picture from Codex
Now, Regular Imperial Guard do wear flak armor, its not really made to stop direct hits but from time to time has been known to stop bolter fire.
Now depending on the types of armor the Sergeant is wearing, Maybe Artificer ( Proven Sergeants are known to wear it ) the proposed fire he was taking is possible.Or from what ive heard even Terminator Armor is attainable..*Drools* The only problem that I have with this is Ultramarines != Blood Angels, thus i mean the Marine wouldnt really be up in their face as they are primarily trained to fight at range. When Blood Angels are trained to do the exact opposite ( Blood thirst...yummy ) . Now hopefully you can choose which Chapter you are with. Personally i would prefer Salamanders really.
I am having a few problems with this actually lifting off the ground with the epic failures of Firewarrior... that game sucked unfortunately... /me misses Space Hulk :(

Caseless as in not ejecting a spent casing after firing a round like a normal gun would (which they don't since that is what houses the propulsion of the shell)
As for the bolter, my guess it is actually a bolt pistol, considerably more compact than the standard issue bolter (also slightly smaller shells), but quite common for the chainsword wielding close combat types. Hmm, the model is certainly the standard bolter, needs more oomph in its sound. A good description is available in the Eisenhorn trilogy. The rate of fire is quite off aswell.

not bad. anything that comes from 40k universe is worth trying... separate deal if they get it right of course. atmosphere in this one is almost right I think.
as for the "why is armor so tough" discussion - it's just a demo. developers always do those demos in godmode to show off stuff. wouldn't be a good demo if he died in second encounter and had to restart again heh.
anywho, this goes to my watch list. altough I suck at action games, especially on consoles :\

This, and a multi player BF style game based on the IP from Gorkamorka or Necromunda instead of some crappy MMO wow clone.
