Its only been tested today (I think a single muon shot through the tube) - The real experiments which could make black-holes are still to come. CCP Please give us casual players a Skill-Queue !

Afaik first collisions will occure on early octomber. But still heavy atoms that might create a black hole will collide in about a year. Besides scientists already admit that black holes might be created. The point is that they will disappear immediately so they are no real threat. Of course all these is unknown territory so noone really knows.

This is just like the scientists who tested the first atomic-explosions. They were NOT 100% sure if it would not cause a infinte chain-reaction...... IF a stable blackhole is created - the upside is we will not notice it - The planet will be turned into spaghetti in about 1/1000000000 of a second ;) CCP Please give us casual players a Skill-Queue !

Ya I think it's going to be a month before they actually fire plasma down the tubes. A stable black hole would be cool as long as it stayed up long enough to swallow all of france before it dissapeared. --------------

When time slows down to 0.01% of normal due to this black hole, you better pray you are not stuck in Jita...
I personally hope the earth explodes. Think of the intergalactic fireworks and the laughs of the aliens, looking at the stupid humans who blew themselfs up.

Because people are stupid enough to think man is equal to nature.
Even at full power the LHC deals with chump change energy levels.
1 TeV this year, up to 14 next year?
At a cosmic level, that is peanuts.
Even if the LHC freaked a black hole it would evaporate almost instantly.
However, everyone likes End of the World!(ohnoes) stories.

Actually the main concerns were igniting or blowing away a significant proportion of the atmosphere.

It's a documented phenomenon that people cannot accurately percieve massive scales. We can use them in calculations and such but when it comes to actually trying to percieve an infinitessimal non-zero percentage, most of us still see that as "a chance". These are the same people who buy a lottery ticket every week because there's "a chance" they could win. And in this case, the people who are afraid of the LHC are afraid that there's "a chance of destroying the earth".
The only way to get this into the general population's heads is to put it in terms they can understand - there is as much chance of the LHC destroying the planet as there is of me walking through a solid concrete wall. It is more likely that Elvis Presley will crash an alien space ship into the head of the loch ness monster.
