Unless CCP can comfortably assume that the negative PR (if any) of this incident will cost them more than this, there's no way they'll ban him. To do so would be an idiotic move from a business standpoint.
It is a fairly big assumption that each and every single Goon will quit the game if the Mittani is banned. |

Odd. I see one thread at 132 / 133 odd pages. I had not realised we've redefined a threadnaught so it can contain all threads that mention the same topic. But then, this whole thing seems about redefining CCP, CSM and EVE - so okay. I am thus redefining 240 pages to be less than 192. WiS wins. Fatality. |

The only real questions are:
Are Panel members at FanFest subject to the same restrictions on what they can say as people are in game or on the forums? Are CSM members subject to the same restrictions on what they can say as people are in game or on the forums? If so, does this apply at all times or only when acting in their official capacity as CSM members?
If the decision that they apply to anyone speaking at FanFest in person, or at all times to people on the CSM, then the normal rules should apply. Namely a ban whose length should be determined by the circumstance by CCP.
Stepping down from his position as chairman or from the CSM entirely is another matter, but I believe those decisions would be directly affected by the decisions made above... then appropriate PUN-ishments can be determined (if any).
(See, now they are going to be all confused again).
:laughs: Probably very confused. But it makes me wonder, we have a number of forum warriors pushing both sides of the equation here. I've already done what I felt was necessary in this situation. Now I'm more annoyed at the arrogance of Goonswarm and the way they are using numbers and 4chan style posting to try and drown out any criticism. I feel they have CCP by the balls and I'm interested in seeing what is going to come out of this.
So, my questions:
1) Is there anybody outraged by the actions of the Mittani who are voting with their money? 2) How would they handle the situation if they ever found themselves in his position?

To a point. I said earlier I believe this issue is between CCP, the Mittani and The Wis. The Mittani is a ****, no arguments there. His Goon pets without any behavioural inhibitions are doing a fantastic impersonation of showing us how little humanity they have. I don't think the Mittani will command the same respect as he had before, but that is a personal opinion.
The Wis has conflicting stories, accept an apology and massive ISK donation and still seems put out. It's hard to understand what is going on in his head, hard to understand why. And not really my place or anyone else's place to try and use him as a sockpuppet against the Mittani.
But, if he spoke out and told CCP and the Mittani what he wants - maybe that will help with a resolution. For example, he might say he does not want the Mittani to resign and that he accepts the apology. He might say he wants a Fanfest style broadcast apology. He might want a new character with the same skillpoints and stuff to escape all this attention.
And what he wants out of it should be the end of it.

Cyber Bullying, an organized and relentless attempt to harrass someone online is one thing. A single tweet is something else entirely.

Then again, I didin't see the tweets so perhaps there is something more directly damaging involved I am unaware of.

I am not from the United States, so I may be wrong here. But is the Freedom of Speech enshrined in the constitution not there to protect people who criticise the government? It should have no bearing on the rubbish people sprout; that is up to society.

Let's recap here.
1. The Wis brings personal issues into the game. 2. The Mittani does something very stupid and to my mind very rude. 3. There is a large public outcry. 4. The Mittani apologises and donates his ISK to The Wis. 5. The Mittani, after consultation, resigns as chair and from the CSM (Wasn't very clear if he is off the CSM). 6. CCP hands out a 30 day ban and decides to review future material for Fanfest.
The man that owned up to his horrid mistake and did his best to offer restitution is the man that comes out of this on top. Of course, the same can't be said of the mass of Goons that have posted their vitriol over these pages; but at least they're loyal.
I don't know why, but some reason your post just makes me think of a politician greaseballing for votes or something. There is something distinctly slimy about it. |

Really now. Your blind with rage or something that you missed that?
The Goon Web Page item:
Quote:When in Iceland, I stumbled: my presentation was boring, I was hideously drunk, and I said something entirely regrettable. My apology upon my return was not a troll (though our in-game enemies are trying to imply it is just a calculated move); as a maniacal control freak, me getting that drunk leaves me with a foul opinion of myself and I wish I hadnGÇÖt done as I had.
-- snip ---
After I fell on my sword in public in an act of honest contrition, anyone still holding a grudge about my presentation and making ****** posts about it is probably one of GSFGÇÖs ancient foes, or someone we blew up in Eve -Pnline. The same old rogueGÇÖs gallery is there GÇô all the same faces and their NPC alts who cry in each and every anti-Goonswarm thread, every goddamned day.
-- snip ---
This isnGÇÖt to say that I didnGÇÖt act like a jackass GÇô I fell on my sword for a good reason. But the media shitstorm is a nexus of several factors working together, accelerated by people who hate us in the game itself.
-- snip ---
I apologized personally to The Wis; There is no question that I went too far and drank too much, and ignored advice that I shouldnGÇÖt use that specific slide at all. Many of you disagree, and thatGÇÖs fine; as you know, IGÇÖm kind of a squishball in person rather than an internet hardman. That said, my apology to The Wis doesnGÇÖt extend towards the gaming media who are trying to make a quick buck by whoring traffic by dumping on me without actually investigating what took place, and that apology certainly doesnGÇÖt extend to hypocritical shitbags like Jade Constantine or Issler Dainze who are explicitly trying to use this controversy to further an ingame political agenda.
His Twitter said he would resign. It did not specify from what, which was perhaps a miscommunication and he should certainly have expected everyone to pick **** out of his words.
The Mittani wrote:Just landed. Step one, apologize profusely. Step two, resign. Step three, send all my isk to the victim. Entirely my fault and unacceptable.
Trust me - I was as disgusted by his behavior as you. But it is understandable that he wanted to discuss step 2 with the CSM and perhaps CCP, isn't it?
And now he has resigned as chairman, was removed from the CSM by CCP, donated all his ISK to The Wis and has been issued with a 30-day ban.
How much more do you want? Should he come groveling at your feet at your house and kiss your boots too?
I'm starting to see the point here - it is starting to seem as if some players are trying to use this controversy to further an ingame political agenda - either to get rid of the Goonswarm or to further their own political goals within EVE Online.

And yet, here you are, doing what you decry. I find this very amusing. Or are you a Goon alt trying to build sympathy for The Mittani by explaining how such a mistake could happen very easily?

You might have just stopped DMC posting in this thread ever again. And maybe I have just re-activated his posting. I'm sure there is an ascerbic response just waiting out there ... |

Indeed. The consequences for The Wis is long over. The Mittani will carry the consequences with him as long as Google exists and not only in-game, but in the world outside as well. As one of the bloggers said - what is on the first page of Google results if you search for his name ... pretty damning and damaging to him. |

Yeah, that's why he apologised. And why people threatened his wife. You know. People are stupid in general.

Was he drunk when he prepared that presentation? Was he drunk when he came up with the idea to mock a player contemplating suicide during a live event and in front of an audience? Was he drunk when he savored and relished on the victim's email? Was he drunk when he decided to keep this email as a prize for his accomplishments? Because unless you can claim that he's been drunk this whole time and not knowing what he has done, his apology is nothing more than a politician's apology for getting caught.
I really hope you never do something wrong and have to apologise for it. |

Fixing something means it was broken. What I wrote was not broken. You are welcome to say something else if that is what you feel, but please do not change something I wrote into something different. That is fundamentally dishonest as you are attributing a statement to me that I did not make.
That said, who are you to judge if a person feels remorse or not? Would you want people to treat you as if your apology is fake if you make one?
That is a high moral ground you are putting yourself on. I sincerely hope you are as perfect as you imply you are. Then and again, given that you misrepresent what I said probably not

And I think you are pretty dumb. Guess there is no coincidence then. |

I don't think that makes me a sociopath, if anything I believe having this outlet to vent in such a manner makes me a more well adjusted individual. Some people drink, I play EVE (and drink) right... let me say it again as you missed it the first time: Quote:A sociopath is a person who has antisocial personality disorder. The term sociopath is no longer used to describe this disorder. The sociopath is now described as someone with antisocial personality disorder.
The main characteristic of a sociopath is a disregard for the rights of others. Sociopaths are also unable to conform to what society defines as a normal personality. Antisocial tendencies are a big part of the sociopathGÇÖs personality. This pattern usually comes into evidence around the age of 15. If it is not treated, it can develop into adulthood.
Visible symptoms include physical aggression and the inability to hold down a steady job. The sociopath also finds it hard to sustain relationships and shows a lack of regret in his or her actions. A major personality behavior trait is the violation of the rights of others. This can appear as a disregard for the physical or sexual wellbeing of another.
Although these symptoms are all present, they may not always be evident. Research has shown that the sociopath is usually a person with an abundance of charm and wit. He or she may appear friendly and considerate, but these attributes are usually superficial. They are used as a way of blinding the other person to the personal agenda behind the sociopathGÇÖs behaviour.
Many people with antisocial personality disorder frequently indulge in alcohol or drug use. Thx for proving my point
I'm still struggling to not go eat my lawn after playing a Tauren Shaman for so many years. |

Which makes me wonder when playing EVE will become a crime
Interesting. I'd not realised your laws covered something said at a public gathering in a different country. And that is then treated as "cyberbullying". Surely that should just be "bullying". He didn't say anything in-game or through an electronic medium.
But okay.
Sigurd Sig Hansen wrote:You cant possibly be that naieve?
No, but I'm human enough to accept a person's apology and to treat others as I would like to be treated. Maybe old fashioned, but I tend to respect people and their actions and I don't let blind hatred cloud my mind.

I'm guessing that swooshing sound was my comment flying right over your tiny little head. No worries though, maybe somebody will come along and explain the difference between video games and reality to you soon.
