I had only one fleet pane last night. I kept getting system errors post-patch -- And now one of my accounts has *no* chat or convo windows.
Oh. Yay.

IT'S AFFECTING MY OTHER MACHINE, TOO. Looks to be a glitch in my main character's account. Oh, joy. ARGH.

Edited by: Jean Bodel on 11/09/2008 00:24:59 Reinstalling didn't help at all (though I immediately got three System Errors). BUT... my other characters on the same account are fine.
So -- Doesn't look like a local issue. *Sigh*
EDIT: Main character is unable to rejoin Local or Corp chat channels.

Same here. Well with one of my characters. Just had to delete (rename) the settings file for that user for the second time in just a few days. The first time the detached local chat was frozen and could not be accessed by anything anymore, the second time (an hour ago or so), no chat windows at all (except for those I specifically joined via the neocom button). Not even local, corp et al.

I have a similar problem on my character. I log in and there's no chat windows available (I tried checking channels, it assumes I'm in them). I tried undocking and suddenly all the channels except for local, corp, and alliance came up. I tried leaving system, and randomly local showed up. I still couldn't get corp/alliance chat, and I don't know if these symptoms are reproduceable, but when I relogged I had no chat windows again... pretty frustrating. I've never had this before, I assume it's an issue that crept up with the last patch but who knows.

You should try resetting the windows to their default position.
Go to the escape menu, reset settings tab. There is a option on that page to "reset to default window positions".
This has helped in many of these cases.

So any idea of what I can do to fix this if the reseting windows thing doesn't do the trick.
only my main is affected by this.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately that doesn't work. Clearing the cache also appeared to work but the problem returns. It happens when you dock in, out, and log in -any time there is a change in he status of a window. It doesn't always happen and I haven't figured out how to reproduce it, so no bug report yet. Besides, I bet you have 50 reports on it already.
Hmm... which long skill do I want to train... Maybe my save $15.00 a month on my credit card skill.

Edited by: Denonian Raphael on 11/09/2008 10:36:50 I got this too this morning. Last night I turned off the window snap, in an attempt to fix that other annoying "feature" where pinned windows end up moving all over the place when undocking, or joining fleet, etc.
Didn't have time to investigate, but honestly, CCP, your QA people need a good kick in the stones. These errors keep on coming back, year after year. I'm taking bets which old bug reappears after each patch. Next patch, could it be the bright white flash at session change? 3-1 favourite?
Perhaps you guys should read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revision_control

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, as I noted above in the initial replies, I'd already tried that. >.< (Mine eventually corrected after more resets, a reinstall, and a reboot... Only to have it afflict our FC, who was frustrated at not seeing Local -- in a low sec mining op with more than a half-dozen folk, whee! )
