Edited by: Eli Whitney on 18/06/2004 00:13:43 Edited by: Eli Whitney on 16/06/2004 17:29:06 I posted this in response to another thread but it's so long I figured more people might want to see it.
This is how I got to where I am today. In less than two months I've just mined my first 100 million worth of ore in one day out in 0.0 space.
Of course I had a friend who helped me out early on so things will go faster if you pair up with someone throughout this entire process.
Here is the fastest way to make money mining (imho) and get you into a cruiser when your done with this process you can join a guild in 0.0 and start making the big bucks:
First off don't bother with secure cans anywhere but 0.0 space.
Make sure you started your character with frigate 4 and spaceship command 2 or 3, Make sure you have a good int and memory (10 each) and a passable perception (7 or better) will and cha are not important.
If your current character has under 200k skill points it is definatly worth it to remake your character your skill points will catch back up very quickly, if I were you I'd remake with less than 500k if my current characters stats were far off the mark I set here. Get Minmatar Frigate 2 and get a probe. Or find a similar mining frigate. Fit Cargo expanders in all the low slots and two miner 1's in the high slots. Train Mining drones to level 1 and drones to level 2 or 3.
Consider joining a guild and asking for some starting cash. I give new people a million isk to start usually, when I'm rich anyway. :)
Start mining scordite in .9 or 1.0 space. At the same time train mining up to level 4. Don't mess with going to lower sec systems to mine better ore, you need to graduate to kernite or better to see more profit than scordite, pyerite is very in demand. Check the market and demand for pyerite before mining and move to the system that is offering the most for your minerals.
When you get 200,000 isk go buy the industrial skill for your race. This requires spaceship command 3 and frigate skill 3. When you get the indy skill trained up buy one, and fit a miner II in the nose.
Now you start AFK mining until you can afford a cruiser and the cruiser skill. You nose up to the biggest veldspar rock you can find in .9 or 1.0 space and fill your hold over the course of 3 or 4 hours. Each run will make you 250k or so if you have 8000 cargo or thereabouts. If you can baby sit it a little bit mine scordite instead for better profits.
When you have your first cruiser you start jet can mining kernite or omber. Load a few hammerhead scout drones and all mining lasers in your high slots, you may need cpu expanders to load all the lasers, go mine in .5 space. Also try to fit a small shield booster on your ship for protection if a big rat shows up and you have to run. This will probably never happen. Especially if you have a drone skill of 3 or 4 by now, or a gun or some missle launchers.
Use shuttles to get your cruiser and your indy into the same system. On your first pull of minerals eject it into space this will make a free jet can, they only last 30 mins unless you rename them, then they last two hours. Keep mining and put your ore into this can. When it's full or every hour and 45 minutes (I like to give myself some leeway time) make a new can put all the ore into it, the old one will blow up when it's empty and then go back to the station, get your indy, and haul in your ore.
Don't do this in a populated system. Find something out of the way. Then you don't have to worry about ore thieves. But I've mined in some pretty busy systems without problems.

Guilds are called Corporations in EvE let's stick to common language shall we?
Not to mention that Probe is Minmitar ship. If you're goin' for level 1 - 3 Industrial them arm up with Bestower, your best bet. Again if you are talking Gallente then there is no kernite in Gallente space.
I would strongly urge new players to employ common sense and use everything in moderation, that includes mining that could be way too boring for new players without seeing an actual goal and not knowing how to work the market.
Do some agent missions in between to keep things a bit more diverse.
---------------------- I make up with stupidity for the rest of my corporation.

Agent missions are a good source of cash and they give valuable experience especially to those that want to become fighters. Dont underestimate the efect of the faction increases you get they might seem small but they lower your costs at the corps stations.
You get bonus cash, faction and equipment so why not do some agent missions from the start. My agent gives frigates, guns, tech 2 components and other modules. Best of all located in a nice 1.0 close to highway and never sends me below 0.7.

Ishtari ù I assume that's a level 3 agent? Along that line...do agents give better and better rewards as your standing goes up, or is it just the level? Like, do I have an equal chance of getting a certain item from a level 3 agent if I have low standing as I do if I had high standing.
I'm pretty new to agents and trying to figure the whole thing out. |

Hi all,
Long story short.......
There are 2 types of mission afaik, Standard and Important.
The important missions 'usually' gives you a nice reward, like a blueprint, implant etc etc. (We're talking level 3 agents here)
Standard missions will give you minor equipment, shuttles, components etc for rewards.
Your agent will give you an important mission say 1 in 10 missions. the higher standing you have with the corp increases the chance of getting an important mission, therefore giving the possibility of a nice reward. so you may end up with a probability of an important mission in every 5 standard missions etc etc.
This is what i have experienced, i hope this is correct.

1) If I happen to catch you afk mining in an indy I will personally just bump your indy out of the 10km roid range so it stops working. afk mining and macromining are hard to keep apart, and both are pretty lame in my view, so dont expect any help from me when you've done that.
2) Whatdoes someone not into their first BS even need 100 million for ? I guess i'm not a powergamer but being rich frm the start takes away the atmosphere. The first few months the fun comes out fof the wonder and immersion, the months thereafter you can get the fun from your skills.

It's an easy way to make enough money to quickly get into a cruiser. You just do it to get there a bit faster. It's even quicker to get there via jet can mining with your frigate but it's booring as hell. Not to mention it's easier to get harrased in 1.0 and .9 space. So it's overall safer for newer players to just afk mine. Why do you give 2 flying ****s that someone pops a veldspar roid once very 4 hours anyway?

I donno I've played a lot of MMORPGs so the immersion phase dosen't last very long for me. I'm sure it's the same case for a lot of other mmorpg vetrans. Plus implants are expensive, and it's damn nice to have your training times all sped up.

I suggest agent missions for new players, nice cash to start and u build a good rep with your faction. U can run courier and hauling missions for level 3 agents for great money and possible implants with very few skill points. Train for a Probe, its the best hauling ship. fast and can hold enough cargo (500+)for 90% of hauling missions. (with minmatar frig 4, and 2 cargo expander I)

You'll make more money by mining imho. But the latest patch may have killed ninja mining in 0.0 space. But with the price increases of Megacyte and Zydrine any ore you get is worth much more.
If you really want to make money fast as soon as you can use a probe head out and ninja mine in 0.0 space you can make 6 mil in a day doing ark and bist I'd suspect.
