Greetings,
The Gallente Union is currently holding elections for people's representatives to its High Council. Can I suggest that prospective candidates post here to say why they want a seat and what they plan to do with it? Any Gallente interested in the union may vote, by eve-mailing the name of their candidate to its president, Lord Eidolon.
Allow me to get on my soapbox to get the ball rolling 
First, let me say i am supportive of all the union is currently trying to achieve and won't reiterate those objectives here.
But my main goal would be to rekindle the old friendship between the wily Gallente and the brave Minmatar, to make it more than a paper alliance and arms-length respect.
An active allaince would benefit both races, both commercially and militarily.
Also, we Gallente deify the ideal of freedom yet sit by while many of our allies our enslaved by the Amarrians.
This is wrong on so many levels, I won't bore you with a rant, but suffice to say if elected i would try to apply diplomatic pressure to improve the situation and personally would be prepared to take up arms if our pleas fell on deaf ears.

i nominate myself. i plan on exporting Quafe to Jove space and bringing back 80s disco music. it doesnt get any better than that.

Ooooh, can I nominate myself?
My stance is anti-empire stripmining and the outright banning of asteroid abuse throughout the galaxy. Roids are people too and they deserve the same rights as everyone.
I would also like closer economic relations between the gallente and caldari - why work ourselves too hard when they are happy to do it for us and let us reap the rewards.
Oh, and every Gallente child will recieve a box of purple jellybeans at birth.

In a desperate attempt to get this thread back on track, could you tell us exactly how you propose to apply "diplomatic pressure", and upon whom?
I'd be reluctant to vote for any politician that doesn't make his manifesto clear. I'm not so na´ve as to believe you'd actually follow it even if you did make it clear, but hearing it would add a note of propriety to the proceedings at least.

I sympathise with your distrust of politicians, and that is one of the reasons i felt i should try to get involved rather than moaning from the fringes.
As far as diplomatic pressure goes, i am a realist and accept it will probably be in vain, but that is no good reason not to give it a go.
I plan to approach loyalist Amarr corps such as PIE and Blacksheep and ask if they are willing to make any concessions on the slavery issue. While an immediate ban on slavery would obviously have a catastrophic effect on the Amarrian economy, i feel they could opt for gradual emmanciapation and the goodwill such moves would generate may outway the problems it would generate.
Money saved from stepping down their war effort and defending their way of life could be spent offering former slaves honest wages for an honest day's work.
I would also contact those Amarrian corporations who actively encourage better treatment of slaves and ask what assistance the Gallente could offer them.
While approaching the Amarrian authorities directly is a none-starter, i would ask the GU to issue press releases outlining an anti-slavery position and calling for more rights for slaves in the hopes the Empire's movers and shakers took note.
At the end of the day, I'm thinking the diplomatic route might be doomed to failure, but i think we should go into this optimistically and prepare ourselves for disappointment rather than resorting to gunboat diplomacy from the outset.
If you want to discuss this in-game, don't hesitate to convo me or mail me - i'm open to suggestions if you think you can help make this work.
even if not elected, i'm gonna give this a go but reckon the high council seat would give it more weght.
i'd appreciate any input of ideas and support you could offer.
votes need to be in by DT tomorrow, thursday june 17, but if you don't feel you can support my position i'm not to fussed.

are you saying I don't exist? Well, from a certain point of view I agree that no-one truly exists. I keep ahaving this horrible feeling that our lives are not our own, that somewhere out there, in a realm we cannot percieve, is someone or something controling our lives for their own amusement.

I will boost the Gallente Economy by exporting top quality Female (and male for all the ladies out there) Gallente love slaves
I will start by taking all the poor homeless people off the street, cleaning them up, giving them a hair cut and a few surgical modifications and turn around and sell them to the Amarr who would be more then willing to purchase said slaves. This would ease tension between the two empires and promote and feeling of mutual prosperity.....you see....sex and slavery solves everything

Why Gallente only? You're anti-slavery, anti-pirate and pro-freedom, democracy and equality, but you're also RACIST?

also i'd like to announce that due to heavy pressure i have taken back my 80's disco project. I will be replacing it with the legalization of boosters in Gallente space to counter Deathwings pro-prostitution campaign.

I change my mind about voting for Viceroy, I vote for myself. If I win, I will try to find the antidote for Quafe (if there is any).

Why oh why do outsiders insist on interfering in Amarr affairs? Slavery is part if our culture and traditions which stretch back over millennia - that will not change due to the posturing of windbag Gallente politicians.

Firstly, you are obviously blind to the fact that slavery is not just about economics it is also about reeducation and religious duty. What particularly saddens me that you are exploiting this issue by jumping on a moralistic bandwagon in order to win votes in an 'election'. A typical failing of the morally bankrupt democratic system.

Caldari corporations do not make people slave, people work for a good wage and know that if they work harder, they get better pay and benefits. They enrich their corporation to enrich the State and themselves. I do not wish to know if this is or in't the case in Gallente brothels (though I very much doubt it), as I nor any of my compatriots visit such . . . establishments.
Personally, I trust my employees more than I would slaves. However, that is neither here, no there. Slavery is illegal in the Caldari State but is legitimate in Amarr space and as such if you wish this modified, get your President to take it up with the Imperial Chancellor and CONCORD. the Emperor has made his position clear on the slave issue and any further "concessions" will be made from his office.

The gaps between the empires are too large for a multicultural society to work. Every race has their own ideals and are loyal to their own race and empire. There are exceptions of course. But the mixture of cultures shouldnt start with a caldari president and a gallante emperor for example.. These relationships has to be built up from a lower level and come gradually.. Maybe in a distant future all races will live together and any ethnical background will fade.. but thats in the future.. and this is a different time and age....
