Other than that, interesting ideas so far.
Covert Ops will still get bonuses to all scanners (recon), and it cloaks. SOE computers dont have to deal with a cloaking system so its more dedicated to scanning however its only limited to explorer probes. I should put a foot note that this ship should be unable to scan while cloaked but im unsure if thats game mechanic or ship ability, ill have to fit a ship later today to see.

The labs arent a container exactly i was using it to give people a better idea what they are working with. Its a lab you put a blue print in it, it will ask what research and for materials before letting any blue print to be put inside of it.

We ought to be careful how much faster these personal labs do thier research but the labs are limited to on run at a time for a few reasons.

I have to disagree with restriction in security space. Why do people work in the field then? its to get resources, in this case its data. Data is quite invaluable to scientist back in the labs in real life (remember real life good for inspiration of new ideas not balance.) So thats what im doing here, for example they found out the sleepers built thier ships with a method that uses less materials for the same performance, combine that information with mordern tech and you got ME results.
Decryptors im am leaving for the civillian hackers to deal with, dont need to overreach and say ORE should be the best in savlaging now in the case another company comes up with thier own salvagers.
All items cept the data streaming analzyers and science core are usable on any other ship and the materials are usable anywhere there is a hanger bay (wont work in space floating)
I too would love to see nomadic support but its unlikely however... also i doubt the battles and the sort your thinking of will never happen that way in eve ever...
Forgot to put in the hidden bonus (similar to stealth bombers unmentioned) all the teired ships will get a reduction in power drain bonus allowing them to use more streaming analyzers than the previous teir. without as big as a penalty.
I sorta went backwards with data collecting, instead of getting it done fast as possible like miners would do.
Field scientist are trying to keep the site alive long as possible. With every pull of the analyzers more time is taken away from the site cutting down the power drain of the analyzers would be a way to acheive superior performance. The different teirs would account for an extra analyzer slot available and give it a high enough power drain bonus to consider the additional analyzer.

Forgot to add in the 'hidden bonus' of analyzers reduced power drain between the teirs. Tech 2 ships will have specialized roles extra bonuses just havent thought of them yet.
If you can give me a per level number that when combined with the three rigs (i need to double check to see if its even possible) the boost in time scanned is only like 5-10% Ill use that instead right now busy getting artwork done and another number to be 5-10% better than that one, im not entirely sure how stackings works and I dont eft at all...
Tech 1s will have 3 rig slots like all tech 1 ships will, i dont think its fair to take away a rig slot for that reason alone as somone else would just put a deviation reduction rig or a signal strength increasing rig or any other rig for that example.

Asno thanks for getting back with me as quickly as you did I dont think ill need to tweak the numbers at all as its impossible to fit three gravity capacitors with only 400 calibration.
Analyzers are getting a new use if you read the gathering part of the idea, i apologize if the post is so long you might have skipped over it.
The power drain bonuses its referring to is not the ships own but the sites battery supply, its the sites power supply the more its analyzed the more time is taken off from already ticking down timer.
Tossed in the scan probe in and got 220+ cpu :( and like 12 grid so I double that output to help account for possible tech 2 gear.

Personal Labs unlike regular labs need materials to operate but they are portable and provide some really quick research at lower levels but as the Blue Prints level rises the more the material costs, its supposed to help out inventors with negative BPOs where the it would be cost effective to research to a level. Some bpcs can also benifit until the 'critical' level can be reached where savings vs costs have to be figured out so a it be an another benifit for those who do thier homework than those who are purely idiots.
The lab capitol ship wont be doing any research at all, the materials or programs by default count as one shot, the capitol ship is able to upgrade these programs up to a certain number of shots, im going for 5 as a number.
POS labs are far more convinent if your willing to put up with the messed up mechanics of fueling the damned things and setting one up and most of the time its not for the individual but small groups of players.
As for the teirs of ships the bonuses between them is to allow the larger teirs to draw more data at a less cost to the sites power supply and being able to use more analyzers at the same time.
Currently I dont think invention would be nessecary the 'metalevel' research would make it overpowered and take more isk away from mission runners.
There is a higher multiplier with researching copies and the formula would be non linear, as the higher the level the far more materials it would need, anything beyond a determined level would be entirely worthless for research though the personal labs while the pos and stations labs will continue to provide thier researchings for a slower and more results.
These personal labs are highly inconvient, you can only do one run at a time, you have to buy the materials (which you can balance the distribution of) and for the tech 2s you got to buy more specific programs other than the standard basic ME PE one which may be locally manufacutred on the other side of the galaxy instead of your next door conveince shop. I think its fair to reward those who put the effort into it than those who are lazy as you quoted earlier but the tech 2 material multiplier really sky rockets after lvl 0 is reached, trying to make any more profit beyond level 0 would be very little. Also buying a personal lab per slot per race and per job type is cost prohibitive that only a corporation or allaince could realize. Personal Labs only provide 1 slot at a time.
But lets say we remove Copies from the personal labs, what use then? Regular labs dont use materials to do the research and the speed bonus alone wont help out for the first 10-20 levels on tech 1 bpos when ive seen people reaching for at least 40 on most bpos.
The overall cost of materials would be alot higher than normal lab researching though on originals but on tech 1 copies should be enough to warrant a few levels of me/pe research before it become cost prohibitive where its no longer useful to research them that the retuns are negative. Those who go though the pos/station labs will always have the edge of being able to do those researches to far higher levels with far less isk and probably time than the other players who have to farm the items or buy them and pay more per level.
not sure if you read those specifics of the idea or left them out but ill try to compress what you wrote into a one liner in faq and try to short answer it.

From what I understand, the Industrial class ships were originally designed to be mobile refineries, which is why they have such a large CPU capacity. I'm not sure why this was never implemented, or if it was, why it was taken out. Maybe some old timer can shed some light on this?
In any case, this seems like a great expansion to Eve, and I support the concept. I'm not knowledgeable enough to nit pick with the details, I'll leave that to the experienced people and the trolls. (o; Hopefully CCP will see some ideas here that they like.
I wouldnt know either which is why the SOE capitol isnt a mobile research lab, its far more effectivly used as a program enhancing platform making sure programs are better spent more bang for the buck.

I didnt know Wh 40k even had ships....
The overall design still lends its self to functionality but I didnt want to drop all of the amarr roots off so added some asetics in and still try to incorporate it as functional parts of the ship.

Well, looking at this we have several things and possibilties for a scientific capitol ship there is a limited pool of abilities to tap into for its use related to science.
Most obvious is mobile labratory - unfourtanly tis could be abusable and not that all appealing whereas a pos would do a better job i this aspect.
Moon Mining/alcheming regular mins into t2 mins - comes to mind, most of the materials needed for tech 2 ships are harvested by the moon.
Mobile Super Beacon - This would allow the ship itself turn into a beacon for any gangmate while its in seige mode allowing for superior range and possibly strength and other things.
Mobile Scanner Array - IMO this would make it to powerful, more solo orinetated, and ultimately too militaristic in role.
Data mine production - mostly going to get tossed out and saved for the hacker ships
Algroithm Copying - this where can be a massive isk saver when utilized, it will still take team work to make it happen and wandering away from the safety of the station and or pos.
THere are many ideas but just trying to find two that work really really well, I hope somone elase comes up with something.

I envisioned the SOE ships being civillian entirely in thier direct use now whenever thier concequences of thier actions be militarizable is up to the end user.
So a anti cloaking ship as you will imo isnt best suited for civillian ships. Ill leave that to other more creative tech 2 ships from the 4 empires.
Aside from that there have been talks about players making thier own deadspace dungeons, this is where an SOE ship would shine.
Now you bring up a great idea into my head though, Using SOE ships as probes as well this would create some sort of network and cooperation over a solar system. Now your network idea is more suited for a POS over multiple systems the system wide tracking can be idea for ships trying to zero down hard to find sites.
As for the capitol ship anything and everything having to do with hacking is a no go, as that would be a caldari thing but I had similar ideas as it becomminga mobile 'research' base of sorts, go find a special artifact site and copy research programs.

Minor Updates not released to the topic thread
Okay I finalized a 2-d design of the Oberon Scientific Capitol Ship and getting it all pertty looking now. 3d design still being hammered out but its monothilic looking while retaining much of the sailing ship style. the 2d picture is about maybe another week out or so and it will be done ship scale style for size comparisons.
Tech 2 color scheme finsihed and will post pictures of that up soon for all non capitol ships.
Titiana (queen of the fairies) has now been commissioned, she'll be the Orca equivalent being a smaller gate capable capitol ship, her roles are still being figured out along with the Obereon.
Toying with the idea of being able to use your onboard scanner to act as a probe for the player, it will still be weaker and not hte same reach of a real probe but eccm modules might fix that, thus saving alot of money for lower endeed scanning.
Thinking about adding a new post called the scrap board so you can see all the considered or rejected ideas.
About to make another post about expanding the exploration field, this was originally omitted to help save on posing space and the combo has been broken since then. This will help cover additional areas of exploration and scientific resources.
Looking for suggestions as usual, artwork is nice but it will be voulenteer as my own corp sorta doesnt make as much as it used to commission artist.
Currently there are no ship models made (true 3-d work) and there isnt any artwork on the Titiana thought up yet.
Anyways Im still working on this project I just been really really busy and not been able to further this. |

These ships are also resource gatherers for the personal research labs, also Im going to make another page detailing a new archealogy system as well that would flush out three roles for the sister ships, 1 scan ship, 2 achealogy ship, 3 research ship. This will match ores 3 main role, rock miner, ice miner, and gas miner.

But ill keep the tech 2 ships names as they would be more lore aligned acient babble the soe sisters would be known to have access to. =============

Sisters are primary ancient data miners, secondary explorers and tritary artifact recovery. but exploration got redone in such a big way that having them as explorer ships for the possible content isnt worth the bonus slot. =============

Theres the slight problem of swapping scan time with scan strength now as there is eve far less variety now than before when all the other extra bonuses where quite viable still and useful in all aspects.
I dunno what to do with these ships now Im more than willing to scrap it all and start over at this point salvaging a few bits here and there especially the demand and supply aspects. =============

Explorer ships are NOT scout ships, explorer ships I have do NOT have cloaking ability what so ever. They're more of a akin to a scientific version of barges and exhumers, the ability to scan down stuff better with exploration probes only is a SECONDARY function. Primary Function of my exploration ships is to gather data, tritary function is to gather artifacts for data cores.
And yes I keep up with all purposed changes because as you see know all of my ships just got nerfed when this hit the shelves. =============

My engineers are looking into it even though its a prototype hull we still have to mimic resistances to our mockup weapons for field testing. Most factions or companies dont share thier military secrets with my company but thats helps reduce costs on developing the hulls, Tech 2 shield emitters is something they're really touchy about realeasing how they work for us.
An example of what we do is we use underpowered engines to mimic the ship if it where fully equipped and prepared for by the faction. We do the same things with weapons we make sure we can mimic projected resistances. Soon as we get a new harmonics sequencers installed we should have projected resistances.

I have thought about warp scrambler immunity but or interdictor immunity not sure which one to coin flip. Interdictor immunity will require agility loss to allow regular interception methoods however.
Defensivly the sisters are FAR faster than any ORE ship that ever existed, fast to turn fast to accelerate fast to warp out when it looks hairy, they however suffer having massive sigrad unlike the ORE ships which can usually get by with average sigrad.
Also I opted the cloaking bonuses off the ship because they're a civillian organization, I may boost cpu to allow a standard cloak and some wiggle room and consider a recalibration delay reduction so they can decloak fast and do what they need.

I have to design the Titania and give a good role and reroll the Oberon as well.
Then of course redo the stats and get more accurate stats out eventually to be near eve like after field testing with similar ships. Finish the inventory and new skills Finish the artwork. Start hammering down specific values for scientific field work.

Okay I was wondering if I could get a discussion going, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to be able to 'harvest' wormhole space effects for later use elsewhere like a tech 2 fleet command module, turn this on and get all the benifits of said wormhole effect? This may be what the titiania need in order to get a role and make wormhole space more interesting.
I also need to go back and take into the account of there bing tech 3 around.
Also need to redo cpu grid values due to recent changes so expect another slate of updates for that.

I made the ships agile and lightweight and they're about 10% tougher than any ore ship known so survivability is alot higher, there wont be much to stop players from fitting a cloak overall just for the sake of hiding. As for travelling there wont be much to save it from bubbles though, I could remedy it or not but I have to rereview the stats, right now im going though artist's fustration which imo is worse than an artist block, so i may have time to go over these ships again.

UPDATE LOG 17/7/116 -Updated the Traveler's Critical Stats based on new measurements
Basically I did everything that was a generic stat (cruiser this cruiser that) and gave it real numbers this time around so people can yell at me for that as well.
Simulated fit was the following
Highs 1 Miner Tech 2 (Data Streaming Analayzer fit) 1 Core Probe Launcher
Medium 1 Small Emp Smartbomb (Simulated as a the Midslot Beacon) 1 Medium Shield Booster T1 1 Invulnerbility Field T1
Lows 1 Damage Control Unit T1
Total fit use 232 CPU 27 Grid
Reason why I used tech 1 modules is because of thier reduced cpu and grid usage vs thier tech 2 cousins, thus this should hopefully account for player skills being more efficent over time allowing players to fit more and more tech 2 as they gain in skill and fitting efficenticy, I bumped the numbers up sligtly to allow play room.
I also gave all the exploration ships a slow warp speed as to not compete with covert ops on scouting and hunting people down and because its a non stealth ship its rather agile and featherweight to allow faster getaways.

I am almost done with drawings the new teir 2 ship and will get it colored by the weekend at the same time ill update the stats entirely for it as well as I did for the tier 1.
I am still without a clue what to do for the capitol ships and also I'll need to start building inventories and actual breakdowns and estimates of items collected per hour and estimated pricings vs the lvl 4 mission runners, and time tabels for training for the field, so in the end lots and lots of work still left to do.

Okay here is the plan.
I plan on exploration scientist to have a job income about equal to miners about +20% reason for the 20% increase is because exploration scientists are not gauranteed to constantly find the goods where as miners can almost park anywhere and sit there.
My next few things and stats and numbers ill be trying to figure out would be man hours for variety of module types (ammo and weapon sizes mostly) and ships. The factors I get out of these will help determine the material rate for a BPO at lvl 0 fore research then I redo the chart from there and compare against the isk per hour at pos vs the isk per hour at the station and find a decent middle ground for operational costs material wise.

Two updates in one day!
UPDATE LOG 29.7.116.2 -Updated the Wanderer's picture, you can now veiw it in its fully glory and color. -Updated the Traveler's Stats, there was not enough cpu to do full fit for 'mining' where the player drops the probe launcher for another analzyer. May reduce cpu in the end if I decide there can be a 'Analyzer Upgrade' Skill. -Updated the Wanderer's Stats, they're no longer vauge anymore, shes heavier than her sister so she's slower and less agile but sports a larger cargo bay.
Aside from that question to you all, should I start designing the skillbooks required to fly these things?

For those of you wondering the Traveler and Wanderer pictures that are up are mostly final and wont change shape any time soon, if anything it would be the details. I currently laid down the Surveyor's hull its being worked on as we speak.
Working on a unit of work called the Chribba as well to use as a guide line for pricing these ships. For example the Traveler would be 0.2 Chribbas, but i also need to get the actual manhourse it takes to build the tier 1 mining barge as well and get an average between the chribba system and the man hour system and find a nice price there. This will let me get the blueprints put out at least.
Stats wise expect changes in the fitting values as I start adding in skill books that help fit the analyzers, I'll be shifting posts the next few days to make room for it.

Okay here is the general gist of the new idea im about to start adding in.
Like I said Tam inspired it.
Players would be able to research a metal level using personal labs on researchables. May apply to ship as well.
Players would get an item and would want to 'meta-level' it up. Depending on what they want they can modify the item numerous number of new ways instead of what we are traditionally used too (decreased cpu, more range more power) in this manner players can pick thier own attributes instead such as bigger magazines, higher damage output overall at the cost of cpu, and various other upgrades they can impliment at metal level incriments. Selectable upgraded items can only be sold on escrow saddly but it may pave way for specialty shops (Ed's Big Gunz! We sell ultra dps guns here)
When the item hits metalevel 5 they gain tech 2 skill requirments and some attributes but also additional costs and material requirments (tech 2 data now) in order to continue it further to lvl 10, ships however wont get to meta 5 as thats going to begin to over complicate things. HOWEVER Tech 2 ships can be meta leveled to 10 on thier own. early meta levels should be cheaper but the more desired type upgrades and further the meta level it is the more materals and expensive its going to be, getting a customized incursus to have the heaviest dps guns slapped on it may rival its ishkur tech 2 cousin full t2 fit easily.

Anyways I been very very busy with other projects to continue on with this, dont worry its not abandoned just havent had the time to get to it.
Any ideas suggestions and comments ill take them
Espeically capitol ship function.
One idea for the subcaptiol ship is to be the wormhole ship its fuel can help stabilize the wormhole for rest of its fleet or simply keep it open when its time to go home.
I was also thinking of it as making it a mobile super observatory capable of monitoring system effects and replicating thier effects for future resellable use.
Both functions science related and in a way noncombat.

TBH I thought they would teach these sort of things in school, but i learned this methood from watching others mostly.
You start with a greyscale picture or generate an object thats defined by greyscale alone, if you cannot get a picture to look like the black and white of what your working on then you need to study light values some more I suggest taking photos from the web or video and convert to b&w and observe how things are highlighed and shaded.
Your next layer is textures (which i omitted im not good with those yet) and you overlay that down onto the picture so it bleed the texture though and appropiately applies the shade and lighitng from underneat on the new texture and basically inherits everything you want it to do.
Then you add the source light (the one light thats giving the object all of its shade and highlight) layer color which will be a solid and you illumonsity it or overlay it whatever looks fitting. So if its a fire it be red, sun typically white yellow or white blue or white ect ect.
Then you do a solid color paint over layer of what you want the final colors to look like and overlay once again. This will give you similar results to what I made causing all colors to be perfectly preshaded for you, if you hate the colors go back to normal on that layer and bucket it to a different shade until you get the right one.
You can then go a step further and merging a copy of those layers and do a multiply layer and screen layer and erase the areas on multiply for undesired shade and erase areas on the screen layer for places you dont want highlighted.
Localized lighting on the windows are done on three seperate layers, one source, one source glow which is a copy of the first layer with slight blue and screen or any other brigtening effect and one local illumination which is another copy erased, blured, pushed to conture the nearby shapes and refined to look fitting.
Another thing you can do to make it reflective is to take the background inverse it and reverse it and shrink and transform it down onto the and overlay and control transperancy until it looks just right.

My custom pallet has a shade of grey every 10 difference between black and white makes for a great start but how you get them onto the digital paper is up to you, you can probably get your classic style by going watercolor tools and picking darker tones than I have (original flats for these where white and bright blue or sky blue and you see the effect the underlayers have)

I mean once you establish your base black and white coloring is an extremly short hassel. Why involve the fullerite? Doesn't that make it just another industrial ship rather than an exploration vessel?
TBH I need to sit down with a wormhole space explorer and find out what they need hauled out of wormhole space or even done on a mobile basis. I thought having this ship establish a 'active' local would make it too powerful even if i gave it a massive ssig radius.
The lower mass would make it perferrable vs the orca or carrier though and the storage could possibly benifit from the lower mass as well not killing WH's as fast. Also a possible seige mode to allow it to 'stabilized' a wormhole that when its cycle ends will jump the ship and collasp it.which will prevent mmaking player made 'stargates' but keeping a fleet cohesivly together. well... The suggested thread's idea was so awsome I'm going have to back off of it, so back to the scrap board with the capitol ships. This will start forcing the main soe capitol ship to start turning into a mobile system wide scanner when deployed though and in a post dominion era this will be more prudent than wormhole exploration even though it will also be used for such activity as well, it can also possibly be able to harvest a new resource from wormhole space and the product can be used by the super carriers (or titans as well) that can replicate the effect (for everyone on the grid) of a wormhole system. However this will be a one per trip ordeal..
Subcapitol functions will be a ship mover and sceintific gang leader similar to the orca cept its lower mass bonus to itself and all its cargo would make it a plus for moving stuff in and out of wormhole space cept the fact the cargo space is dwarfed by the orca's but at least the SOE subcapitol can move 1 rigged battleship. Role Bonus: 250% bonus to tractor beam range 100% bonus to tractor beam velocity 500% bonus to onboard scanner range 99% reduction in CPU need for Gang Link modules Can use 3 gang link modules simultaneously.
Scientific Command Ship Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to cargo mass reduction per level 3% bonus to effectiveness of arechealogist gang links per level
Cargo about 10,000 m3 (thats 20k less than the orca) 60,000 m3 maintenace bay (this is where that 20k cargo went to) and a small 1-5k bay for scientific related products and findings.
As for the primary capitol ship im still hammering out the last bits of details to apply to them.

okay though you wont see it on the posts yet until I start working on the inventories again I have updates for the Post Dominion era. The Oberon's uniquely fitted scientific core will now deploy the ship into a seige mode and create a beacon at every single point of interest in the system, the cost of deployment of the scientific core is excessive but with a good group its function can be lucrative and time saving reason why I said place a beacon at all sites is to allow for hostile forces to take advantage of the situation, the ship itself also places a beacon on itself during seige mode increasing the inherit risk of using the ships scientific ability.
The Oberon will focus on ship storage space over cargo space similar to the titania, she will be able to carry not only more ships but with lesser mass as well. Her fuel bay would also be larger than normal should another function or role be added to the scientific core in the future.
The Titiana has also had a similar cargospace shuffel overall it has about the same cargo space of maint + cargo as the orca the difference is more of the space is int the maint to allow at least 1 fitted battleship to be stored at the cost of regular cargo space.
The Titiana can now fit an Localized Observatory Laboratory. This high slot seige like module (long cycle time) Harvestestes the raw material needed to recreate the system wide effects of wormhole space.
The canidates who can then use the deliery system has been narrowed down to the carrier, super carrier and titan class ships.
When a ship deploys the system wide effect it effects all forces, friendly, hostiles, and neutrals. The ship emitting the system wide effect will gain some factors to make it scannable but its able to fit enough equipment to counter it however it wont be enough to create scanner immunity entirely the exact formulas and effects added to the ships scannability are not yet determined as of this moment as I am still contemplating which ships really do deserve the new function of system wide gamebreaker.
Only one effect can be active in a system at a time, error message will state you cannot deploy your effect when one is already active. Similar to seige mode the module immobilizes the ship however it can be cancelled at any time, this will destroy the 'ammo' in the process which will not come cheap in material calculated manhour units (the effort in making one is almost as intense as a tech 3 ship without the chance based factor of failing to get the materials or end product needed.)
As for updates on what to expect soon post wise, expect specific stats on both capitol ships soon. And Ill begin drafting the blueprints for all the ships. Current plans are to get the blueprints for the Tech 2 ships done, and building the new version of the capitol ships again as well as tweak thier stats to be in line with all the other ships in the series.
After that the plan is to start spanning out the process of personel researching of all sorts inlcuding the interesting metalevel research. Mock up stores and blue prints for all tools used and skill/tech tree. Once all these are done Ill campaign it to the CSM and put a few more pictures up and alternate color schemes. Well got a question thrown at me about the peicing it together section so heres some spilled beans about it.
The section will discuss a new type of agent, called Agent in hangerbays.
Now its not always what you think it seems, they're items that give missions, particuarly one shot items, the best part is that ccp can continiously keep adding these items like regular missions that are available.
Based on where you 'activate' the item will determine the mission parameters such as location difficulty distance and content however the base item also effects the missions selected (ie taking a high sec item to null sec isnt going to help you get a level 5 like mission) you goto mission sites or hunt them down (some may require scanning and or should or even belt sweeping)
The missions will clearly tell you which missions will require a combat ship and which one will require an explorer ship, in good design they should never ever hybridize them... to much.
Missions will mostly be peicing together a scene or story of an artifact and possibly hunting other npc treasure hunters down to complete the puzzel. Missions should be designed with more thought processing than the simple "warp in, kill everything, use gate, if none, vicotry" layout.
Mission rewards should be either the artifact completed (big RP moola and isk) or items that are required to 'metalevel' into faction variant items or possibly even officer level items as mentioned in the other section.
Aside from that im thinking about adding two more sections
"Tag Teaming with the Hackers" a short discussion about how another set of science vessels in the future will help out the explorer ships
and "Lovely Eistien Piggy Banks" a description of what the new Research Points stores will contain.

This would center around removal of the module drops from all npcs officer variants included and having them replaced with damaged modified parts instead that the personal lab could analyze and spit out a meta module blue print copy or original (officer/faction exlcuded). Manufacturers can then take this blue print and make thier own modules out of it. Which in turn can be used to help research boosts for various traits for other meta level paths. loot = damaged module(s). damaged module + t1 module + other misc science item(s) = meta level module. Where meta level is determined by damaged module quality And where higher meta level requires more misc science items.

So anyways long overdue updates
Update 1MAY107 -Began Editing Posts for Tyrannis Edition. -Why Sisters, Updated and reformatted, no major change in post's idea. -Sow the Seeds, Revamped *Majority of the topic is now shifted to focus twoards overall design philosphy instead of reasoning for the idea. *Changed Title 'Sow the seeds and it will Grow' to 'Sow the seeds' *Changed subtitle from 'Creating need', to 'We Begin here'
I had to change the the sow the seeds topic becuase when I reread it (not having a good memory is good sometimes) it certainly sounded like a whiney person complaining about broken stuff. So now the subject is all different with more of a design philosphy mindset vs the what's wrong now. The what is wrong was breifly hit up on the topic but it was more pointed out as a characteristic and then tossed against one of Eve's two bottom lines which im pertty sure are People and Descisions. Some choices as a scientist avoid both which makes it a poor function to begin with, for example Data Cores from Research points is litteraly a very nice example. Other parts was more on the decisions part along the why even bother sorta things.
But now thats out of the way I got some rearranging to do. Possibly another redesign of the SOE ships, introduce some frigate tech 1s to handel the job halfway (tech 1's are flexible so a new frigate thats good at archealogy and salvaging sounds about nice right about now as a 'my first science ship!')
Im also going to reveiw all posts in order as well just to make sure stuff gets mentioned in proper order (some of them arent doing that youll catch it every so often) and going to further logically rearrange them properly.
Im still hammering my head out on what functios the captiol ships should have. I mean the ideas are out there its just I cant make the ships too fantastic or too mudane its been very difficult to find the nice niche' required there.

First off reread the idea, and if you are looking at this on eve search I suggest re-reading the most up to date edition on eve online itself. Because these ships are not designed to do research in space. Never have, and very likely never will. Period.
Yes they are shield tankers and tougher to kill than exhumers by nature due to thier constant exposure to possible combat even in high sec and hitting a combat site. Thier farming technique also makes them just as if not more mobile than a ninja salvage ship. Also the new analayzers are a bit power intesive on their draw on the cap so a pilot will have to choose between uniterupted harvesting or some protection, and of course the LOL ECM combat fit which should suprise simialr to the battle hulks. They also recover artifacts which can be used in the revamped research store.
The ships go about and harvest data fragments needed to fuel the personal labs which can be bought and owned and are usually located in a station but cannot operate without this data in the first place.
Personal labs are player manufactured products whos price is probably floating close to a battleship estimate each and can be easily teied up with current research lab slot skills, due to thier pricing and requirment for different races and possibly fields it may get very expensive just getting at least 40 different labs by race alone just to fill up every slot, then if you multiply specific fields into it and it goes up into the hundreds.
Moon cap is nowhere near been hit yet btw and its not a good way to bounce a coin off something that isnt full yet. Also moon cap is very unlikely to hit due to the fact people keep destroying these things even in high sec. Also fuel cost going out the window next expansion as players will begin to take over its production.
The way it balaces is that these personal labs require 'fuel' or data which is provided by players, there are many flavors of fuel for many flavors of research, for example any tech 2 related research has fuel most likely found in low sec also the fact that it takes alot more science skills to get specific fuels for tech 2 than any other skill a 'science' trained character would have to undock to get them or buy them from somone who has.
Purpose I already pointed out, to get them out of the station with additional RP rewards that they can no longer AFK for and of course fueling thier personal labs when they dont want to use the POS or Station Labs.
As for market balace it mostly hing on player demand for faster than possible research on bpos, and general bpc researching and the possible future meta researching for a later expansion as the personal labs will be the only lab to be able to do meta research. They cannot invent or reverse engineer however but they can still turn a tech 1 blue print into a tech 2 but its far more effecient to do so with the mentioned methoods as the meta research is chanced based per level not in the favor of the player at all. This also costs fuel provided by the mentioned ships.
Also I already have several nice paragraphs on how to balance the lab, linear increase of fuel needed per level (ie tech 2 sky rockets after lvl 0), making it research one level at a time for annoyance, tie it to skill, increase its cost, make it large and hard to transport that maybe only a freighter can have all 10 slots used up in space and even then thats just asking to get sunk.

Ive have already asked myself these questions and already answered them in ways that I could. I understand there needs to be a reward for playing it smart and playing it hardheaded. Smart players will definetly know when to stop using a personal lab for research because cost/effort ratio per level is beyond that of a pos lab or station lab. A hardheaded player will continue to spend extra time effort and costs to competitivly research but he will know his lab is always avilable. An even smarter player will know to watch the data market like a hawk and that any time the price dips enough to make researching antoher level cost effective hell capitolize on it.
There are dozens of factors effecting time ecnomy of the research of blueprints that can be adjusted scaled and precalculated before it even gets to a testable phase but none the less a POS and Station lab are going to be the pinnacle for reserach at higher levels youll just spend way to much isk doing it with the personal lab its not a suitable tool for higher level research. Because the fact the personal lab isnt a perfect tool at all, its a tool none the less and throwing meta level research capability in the future will allow it to be a niche lab that will be useful regardless on how things go. I do not feel like retyping everything Ive been explaining idea again in a compact post but most of your concerns are unfounded and as long as you dont answer my questions. I asked you questions in a serious manner because I have spent time doing my math and research and looking and observing relationships between time material and isk economy has been an amazing understatement on how complexe eve's economy really is because of its player intensity.
First off I did a quick search on you to gauge what sort of player I was dealing with. Sorry for the lack of updates Ill get a few posts rolled out today, just more edits though of existings posts no new ideas so no need for a massive update yet.
Otherwise I have decided develop on creating new programs for the use in POS Labs, and possibly Station Labs.
These consumable programs would be similar to the ones personal labs use with one excpetion. They're optional.
Current options could be: Accelerator (stacks with everything (skills and lab type), works on making copies or originals)
Effiecency (aka Accelerator alt. time per level is slightly lower allowing more levels per job request just as effecient as the accelerator just dont have to requeue the same job as often, only works on originals and select copies)
Accuracy (increases chances of success of an invention or reverse engineering or any other divered research plans)
(property) Amplifier (increases properties of a copy from the original)
(property) Diversity (10% of levels gained in either ME or PE will be earned in the other type of research, Originals)
Although these options may not be able to trump a personal lab at early levels they will definetly keep both POS and station labs in business as the personal labs dont even get some of these options.
Materials for these programs would be found in same places as the personal lab programs. The ME required stuff always rarer than PE. And yes Diversity may have to get removed or nerfed more as more folks decide to increase ME by doing PE + Diverity research instead, but then again it may aleviate the 2 month waiting time on some station labs now adays and it can be a product in demand.
Balances for these items can be acheived by requirements for them, for example isntead of one program for the whole job we can have it to that the number of programs needed change with the blue print type (ie titan bp requires more of the program than a S Radar crystal) but also creating a new material that seperates the POS and PLs from each other or materials distribution.
Also on another note that I do feel that personal labs must be locked if in use, preventing thier transport and requires to be installed in an appropiate storage facility before use (hanger bay) I have come to conclude that the data infrastructure in eve's data management cannot handle moving research jobs without serious negative effects to the performance of all players and making it possible would be too much work effort for little to negative impact (afk researchers being worse than afk cloakers)
Im welcome to more suggestions on programs to be used or suggested between the three lab types. Currently: Personal Lab - Lab capable of meta-leveling items, entry level lab, cost ineffective for higher research, Lowest Risk Station Lab - General Purpose, Long Lines, medium risk (depends where you are with them) POS Lab - Inventive Lab, high end research, Effecient, Fuel Intensive, Highest Risk,

Well to celebrate our new mini expansion Ive finally released the Tech 3 ship for scrutiney.
Bonuses are weaker than empire versions but that intended some I went further and added a second just as weak but different bonus
Other Than that I am going have to go back and double check fitting later as im too tired to figure the rest of it out now.

Either way I am rolling though with spell checks and going to reread the entire idea again may have left something out before going any further.
Things I am planning real soon would be listing all of the Series for module upgrades (by type ie all guns will share the same series) and All the individual data bits and the sorts and how much processing is needed for all of it.
Since the number of materials needed by coding is about 1/10th of that in the industrail side the rate of raw looting is probably going to be about half of a miner, because unlike a miner a field scientist must prowl for sites and may not get any.

Im thinking about adding unpowered sites to belts purely to allow low and cheap yeilds in belts and to allow new players who havent trained up beacon yet to be able to start thier profession on day 1.
I am also looking for more suggestions. Specifically programs for POS's to operate. I was thinking maybe a refinery acceration program for the ice melting. and possibly giving a pos an observatory. File-ology, section which should contain all the new programs to be used. Does not include Hacker Decks/Tools though. ANd im still peicing together the specific blueprints when I have time so far I have target 'goals' which is currently based on pricing of private labs for sale and POS operational costs x2 for normally researched duration. Basically all the research programs will basically allow you to manually cut down hours by having other people activily work on that research but it will be inefficent eventually. Also still need to scale time factors as well as stated previously the futher researched a print is the higher the requirements of materials are.
Also made some updates to Diggerest section which contains information on findable sites. The complete list still needs to be done but new entries are there for the moment. This section looks like it will need a post 2 and an extended glossary to reduce text footprint.
I also just remember mentioning that moons and planets can be a resource point for these programs/materials for new tools so that may be the next big section when I get there.
Future updates include Meta level researching Ships.
You heard me right, meta level researching ships, Ill explain how this will be done and the interfaces required for it.
Also another factor I need to possibly mention is how to increase your chances of successful meta leving. And an additional punishment for metalevel research, Lowering of levels similar to how invention and reverse engineering goes into the negative values.

Still milling about the new ideas but I think I may have come up with an easier to balance solution to making metalevels of ships.
Series introduced for ship meta-level research will not change Slot Layout at all this will prevent over abuses of unique slot layouts as that can get overly difficult to balance all possible outcomes.
So the new series will be changing stats around, like consuming powergrid for capacitor stats or vice versa.
The most powerful series and possibly most sought will be the bonus series, Most tech 1 ships have two bonuses the bonus series will barrow fraction of one bonus and equivalently apply it to the other. IE one ship have 10% Gun damage and 5% Armor repair, a researcher can meta-level a ship to have 12% Gun and 4% Armor repair instead.
Custom ships are similar to the custom modules, they will be difficult to get original BPOs of at higher levels but lower levels BPO and BPCs should be often aquired enough.
To make things more interesting I am deciding to make all custom modules and ships require planetary interaction materials from tier II to tier IV in thier construction not in thier research however.

Im sorry I've been busy in real life to continue this project any further for the moment with the prospects of a new fourm possibly being vaporware as far as we're concerned means that I may have to start updated this thread instead in its current format and continue with the work soon.
Im currently redesigning the wanderer and it looks far more in line with the Urania and the new Traveler than the previous versions and Im also making the blueprint layouts now for each ship. I still have exactly designed the capitol ships yet but I feel comfortable enough its more possible now than the old 'pixie' designs where.
If you have any new suggestions ideas complaints concerns or comments please let me hear them out I do enjoy adressing the issues brought up and possibly can come up with a creative solution to each issue. Well, I got 12 days to start rolling out with the Incarna edition, there wont be any new features becuase of Incarna newer features though except maybe PI related stuff but... that's going to be long shot with dust interaction unknowns in the futures. Though I should probably go back and redo the turrets for the analyzer and data steraming analayzers as the only incarana turely related feature and start hammering away at the manufacturing process so we can get even more estimated price tags for these things.

I may scrap the ship metalevel research idea entirely considering the database loads and may consider just handing that over to the hackers for the ai slot upgrade instead. Still I need to hammer out the rest of the numbers draw the last few ships and peices of equipment and get things wrapped up around here.
