Laser vs Angels donŠt do very well, but it is not that bad.
Key is mostly working up the Skills and fitting 2-3 Damagemods. Puls Lasers work very well in Missions vs Angels because most of them are in a very good Range and the high Tracking works very well vs quick Angels. The better Damage and the better tracking nearly makes it up compared to my Kronos.
Harbing and Abaddon are way to go. Abaddon with 3 Damagemods and Megapuls whipes out Angels preaty quick with some skills. I can do a AE with mine in 40-50 Minutes, only the Bonus stages takes a bit longer(mostly because of the big Amount high EM resistant BS). It is not that bad but will take more time to get deaced because of the big amount of skills needet to use Amarr right under this conditions. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

I believe that one thing to note is the DPS vs Volley comment. If he's just comparing the big hit numbers then yah, he's screwed. Arties (while they do suck) are still known for their alpha.
For the suggestions on using drones, i don't think thats going to help this kids situation at all. I love drones, but PLEASE GOD give us their damage messages... i always wanna know what my ogre's are hitting for but alas i may never know.
I think you're friend just needs to straight line it for a t2 large beams/pulse and fly an apoc. If he fits tachyons...

Drones would be an instant improvement. The Harbinger can be at least somewhat effective in a gang versus Angels thanks primarily to it's drones, plus it's (probably) a short train away (If he can't already fly it). The guy needs a fix that as is close to instant as possible - if you're not having fun because your ships suck for what you're doing the advice of "wait for X months until it sucks less" isn't likely to keep you playing.

Amarrians need to learn about commitment, patience and sacrifice to God and the Amarr superior technology to reap the benefits afterwards... Devote yourself (+6 months) and u will be rewarded by The True God...

I'd say keep working at it. Lasers are fine, they suck at first but get better. Seriously, this game is not "OMG, I'm pawning things at first!!". Doesn't happen. Skills = better gameplay. If your friend can't stand this....look for a new game.

Lasers are frustrating to use against guristas and angels, even with very high skills, t2 guns, 3 damage mods, you name it. Trying to do it with low skills is just asking for trouble; if your friend knows this, well, he's made his decision.
After you get a good few solid months of cap, ship command, and gunnery skills under your belt though... lasers abruptly change from "oh man, these weapons are awful," to "holy crap, these things are amazing!" In general, this point coincides with the point at which Scorch becomes available, because Scorch is amazing.
That being said, I did crosstrain to a drake so that I could get through low-level missions more quickly so that I could get to the blood/sansha/merc/drone/[serpentis] missions where lasers absolutely massacre everything with ridiculous dps at ridiculous range with ridiculous tracking. __________________________________

This char was originally minmatar going up to t2 autocannons, but now it's totally amarr spec'd.
Lasers fare very well against anything as long as your friend is willing to train up the gunnery skills required to use them effectively. Aim to fly the harbinger -> Armageddon so u can supplement ur lasers with drones.
Laser damage output will gradually rise with training and shine when he is able to use t2 weapons especially the large t2's. It is only the initial gunnery training that frustrates people.

The only "suck" on lasers is their cap-usage, other than that they're pretty great weapons. Yes your gunnery skills need to be fairly high to get the most out of them (especially fitting wise) but their damage output and range is anything but bad.

He could always run missions in Derelik for Ammatar Fleet/Consulate. That's only a few jumps from Rens and he'll get missions vs Sanshas rats.

Yup. EVE isn't an instant gratification sort of game. He's gunna have to stick it out to get to the point where things are easy. --- Not happy with something in EVE? An emo whine will doubtless help your cause. |
