I've been fooling around a little with Fraps on my new system but I don't like the frames drops that happening. Right now I run steadily (locked) around 75 fps with EVE premium. With fraps activated it drops to around 40.
My question is: is there a hardware alternative to Fraps that I could plug in a pci-port? It would also be nice if it allowed me to connect to a external player and copy old VHS-tapes to harddrive so I can edit them.
As for the framedrops, I could get another harddrive, overklock the dual-core and perhaps get a better gfx-card. But one thing at a time since my wallet aint "premium".
I be thankfull for any advice.

Fraps will 'lock' your framerate to the set FPS inside Fraps. To increase this, set Fraps to record at 60 or higher FPS.
As for another way, yes, you could setup what you are suggesting, but thats alot of work...

I've tried that before and it kind of worked. Just plugged my TV into the TV-out of my gfxcard and started taping. Zero drop in FPS is kind of nice, but the quality isn't exactly desireable, especially for ultra-high resolution EVE footage...

don't know if this is the same problem, (if it's not set the fps fraps locks itself at to a higher rate)
i run a top end computer with the newest hardware out on the market, fraps has always worked fine for me, however ever since i got this new computer, occasionally (only happens now and then) when i fraps the fps will drop to 1-2 instead of staying at 30 as i say it should anyone know what causes that? -sig-

Lag.
The file will be 30 FPS, but with duplicated frames/skipped frames, no different to if you jump into a new system and the in-game frame rate drops to 0 whilst the new system loads.
Fraps cannot record an absolute 30 FPS, it is just the limit you are setting it so you have a consistent file which will not speed up or slow down upon playback - hence the frames will skip or duplicate to 'fill-in' the blanks should the ingame frame-rate drop.
The only way any of this could be avoided, would be if CCP give us a goddamn 'battlerecorder' which we could playback/Fraps later on...
I emailed the makers of Fraps regarding creating a generic battlerecorder and they replied stating they think this is unlikely for now and are commited to image capturing.

Thats a Great Idea for the BattleRecorder!. Someone with the skills ought to create something like this.. Hell they could even sell it for multiple games. With the ever growing technology of HD gaming , it would be nice to get a higher end recorder that possibly encode / record in HD aswell.
