APPRECIATION
I've been flying a lot lately. Crucible has got me all excited to play again (for the most part), so I've been oot and aboot doing my thing all over New Eden. Flying lots of ships means dying in lots of ships, so this video is really a bit of a thank you to everyone who's been supporting me over the years via donations of ships and isk. No (or at least very little) bitter rage this time around, and a much more relaxed pace in is store for you guys.
If you're unfamiliar with my videos, I'll make this brief. This is all solo, UNLINKED & UNSCOUTED 00 pvp
If that doesn't interest you, hopefully it will after watching some of my videos. If not, go back to hugging the links & and Falcons alts  This time around the video is all larger ships. There are a couple AF clips, but for the most part this is all Cruiser-sized and up.

Because the video is a fair bit longer than what I normally produce, the filesize is a bit larger.
I've increased compression while trying to retain quality, and the best I could do was just a bit over 1gb.

Editing is great as always and I thought the genos/mnemonic intro was kinda funny too. I really like your camera work especially when you are kiting with engine trails and super zoomed in, it's not the most effective way to fly but it makes for awesome looking fraps for sure.
I am only disappointed that there was no solo pvp falcon footage, even though you secretly love flying it:

So, I thought about this for a while before posting.
I know you mentioned how people often ask you to make longer videos (I guess I myself fit into that category at times), but I think this could have been amazing had it been ~20 min range. It seems like you sat on these clips longer than usual to make a longer video, but still left the 'iffy' fights in just to make length.
Fights like the Domi (with sentries) vs Harb + Cane, or the Talos vs Stabber + Ruppie just really left a bad (boring?) taste in my mouth.
Anyway, the video was still really really good, I think it's the best of yours I have seen in a while. Since this carries the 'appreciation' name and message, I have to reciprocate by saying thanks for making these. I get annoyed with your rage and arrogance in teamminmatar at times, but none-the-less the Frigank series, as well as these subsequent ones, really got me excited about honour pvp back in the day.

I have to concur with Zach on this one.
I quite enjoyed the video and I think I have pretty much every single video you have made on my hard drive, so you have definitely been a very inspirational influence on my pvp.
The only thing that let this video down was a small handful of pretty average fights compared to the heights this video reached. It was kind of like a rollercoaster watching this video, from excitement and adrenaline pumping one clip, to disappointment 1 or 2 clips later, and then back to epic footage again.
I hope this doesn't sound too harsh. Bear in mind I am holding you to a very, very high standard based on your long track record. The majority of fights in this video were really good, a few of them were quite exceptional and imo some of your best stuff to date, and then a few were kind of lacklustre and I felt didn't really belong.
Still a great piece of work and I hope you PvP enough to release a new one in not too distant future :)

This movie is more about different ships shooting each other than the pvp.
PvP is a bit more deep thing than 1600smallrepapproachhopetolive. Atleast for showing it off.

I'll echo the other posters by saying there were some real gems of fights especially the BS stuff and Astarte stuff! But also there were some mediocre fights and the kind of stuff that I personally delete from my HD straight away. But in the end, your excellent music selection and camera and editing skills make it all so enjoyable to watch, why complain?
I think it's also interesting how focused your movies are on 'the fight' itself, basically showcasing your module management (which is great, but start your armor reppers a bit earlier please  ). I always think about the 'setup' and orchestration of the fight much more, which you clearly do for your fights - there's no way you actually find all those ships sitting alone I'm sure - but it is completely absent from the video. The result is a really concise rapid-fire viewing experience which is fun but also somewhat mystifying for anyone who has actually done extensive solo work. I'm not saying either approach is better/worse by any means, I'm just commentating.  |

Loved some of the clips more than the others but I think people forget.... or simply don't realise that your approach to pure solo is in fact hard-mode Eve.

Any specific reason?

Love all your vids, thanks for sticking it out there and doing what I love most about EvE: Solo PvP.
Each video I watch really makes me miss my time in EvE from 2005-2009. Now I only re-sub from time to time. Things ain't what they used to be. However I'm determined to make a video of my own, at least one video. I want to dedicate it to all the wonderful people I've met in this game and the ******* amazing times I've had, beats 99% of any experience I've had in other games, bar maybe the glory days of Half-Life 1 + mods.

IGÇÖve played rugby most of my life and IGÇÖm now at the veteran stage. Over here when you play vets rugby sometimes itGÇÖs just older players kicking the bejesus out of each other and sometimes they have the really old players wearing different colour shorts to their teammates. The ones in the gold shorts are the really old players and you arenGÇÖt allowed to tackle them in case you break their hips or something.
Now IGÇÖm not saying that Eve has players in gold shorts but weGÇÖve had a couple of people recently spouting off in local because they didnGÇÖt get what they considered a good or fair fight. For those of you who donGÇÖt know A4D lives in NPC 0.0 space in Curse. That means no Concord, gate guns or anything else to limit what you can do. We regularly camp bubbles and gank unwary travellers and most people round here know that.
This morning I log on to find the twilight shift has a few active. CEO and self-confessed bubble-hater Sygma is organising the deployment of a large bubble on the CL gate, hell thatGÇÖs like Bull organising a mining op. He was a bit giddy after a good fight the USTZ had with En Garde earlier on. The bubble didnGÇÖt last long as AAAGÇÖs right hand men came and exacted a terrible toll on our bubble with far too many to get a fight from us.
Shortly after the Stephen Spielberg of Eve, Prometheus Exenthal was spotted a few jumps out solo in a Vindicator. Now he films his fights and posts on other parts of these forums. Well we just fancied killing the Vindicator. We jumped into a couple of damage ships, a Huginn for webs and two Electronic Attack Ships for tracking disruption and jams.
He jumps in and we get tackle and his pimped out ship does well. Due to the E-war he wasnGÇÖt locking very well and his guns werenGÇÖt hitting too much. His cap was being slowly eaten away though he had cap boosters. We picked away and after several minutes we killed the ship. We missed the pod which was probably worth more than the ship which was a pain. It proved to be more of a mistake as we were berated for using ECM and the like.
Apparently all he wanted in his deadspace and faction fitted battleship was a good fight. I donGÇÖt know what is classed as a good fight. Normally it would appear that means an over-powered battleship spanking normal fit battle cruisers or battleships. Eve in 0.0 is very much rock paper scissors. If you got jammed a lot why not fit uber ECCM modules rather than that third deadspace EANM. Of course we are not going to engage that pimp Vindicator with a couple of tier 1 battle cruisers which would last a few seconds if we donGÇÖt try to tip the balance in our favour.
Fair fights donGÇÖt often occur. Even those 1v1 frigate cans outside the main station in Amarr are subject to off-grid boosters, or neutral rep or monumental numbers of SP, or implants orGǪ well you get the picture. If you want to fight on even terms then it has to be noob characters in Velators, only using civilian guns in the same gang, otherwise skills and experience play their part. Fights by the terms of the Irish Code Duello arenGÇÖt happening in K-Q unless you phone ahead and get it all confirmed in writing. |

I disagree with prom's ideas on a lot of things, but ecm really is an ill-fitting mechanic in a game like EVE. EVE's combat works so well partly because there is a counter to almost everything (especially forms of ewar). Actually you said it yourself in the chat logs, EVE is a rock, paper, scissors game, counters are very important.. ECM has no proper counter. Unlike all other counters, ECCM is chance based just like ECM, which means when it stops a jam, it is now countering, when it doesn't stop the jam, it is useless.
The other issue with ECM and trying to counter it is the insane difficulty of countering it compared to all other ewar. Tracking Disrupted: Get closer or reduce transversal by flying away from your target. Damped: Get closer to the target. Neuted: Activate a cap booster or a nosferatu.
ECM: To realistically avoid jams at a decent rate you need to get between 100-150km from the falcon, even then I've been jammed plenty of times by falcons at 120km in my time flying in EVE. This absurd effective range of the ECM ewar module compared to its cousins is then coupled with the fact that ECM is by far the most powerful form of ewar when used againt a solo player or a small gang. The jamming of even a single enemy ship in a small gang for a single cycle of 20 seconds can often be enough to tip a close fight in the direction of the jammers team, not to mention the multiple ships jammed and multiple cycles of jams that falcons usually achieve on the small gang battlefield.
This all adds up to a module that is way out of sync with anything else in EVE, and even though it is a cliche to say so: frankly it is OP. There is a good reason half of all players seem to carry ecm drones in their drone bay over damage drones.
In fact, CCP Ytterbaum (the ship balancing guy of all people) has even stated that he himself does not think the ECM module fits within the rest of EVE because of it's chance-based mechanics, and he would like to address it sometime in the future. I believe he even hinted at the idea of rebuilding the whole ecm mechanic from the ground up.
So while it is true, that for now ECM is a part of EVE and we all must deal with it, that does not change the fact that the module is incredibly frustrating to meet in battle as a solo or small gang pilot. I appreciate you guys are "battle-hardened EVE vets" who don't care what anyone thinks of them and does whatever they want in the glorious tradition of many EVE pvpers who have come before. But that does not stop the use of such an infuriating mechanic from affecting yours and most of all your regions reputation.
"If you don't want your feelings hurt, don't come to Curse." - Well, it's a basic fact of human psychology that people don't like to get their feelings hurt, and so it happens that Curse currently has a reputation as one of the worst regions possible for solo/small gang (at least among the people I have spoken to) which results in a decline of solo/small gang pvp in the area and eventually means less "good fights" for you guys.
And I don't care what anyone says, everyone likes a good, close fight.

My only point is this.
We honor controlled, agreed to pvp. But don't come be bopping through curse or our system and expect us to ask you as a solo player or as a member of a gang, to wait a min so we can get the exactly same ships to engage you with. As for the falcon? it was a less than 1k hit point frigate that jammed him. They were all much more inferior ship than the Vindicator, its was a sweet kill.
The disappointment, well disgust came from the crying and stomping and name calling that came from a "Vet" from losing a ship flying without a scout through our system. I expected much more from the guy. And we get called blobbers if we bring 8 on 8, even when their 8 guys thought they were jumping just 4 of ours.
Its the reason we don't let kids into A4D.
The one thing I didnt say , that i will say now, is that the kid makes great videos, they are very well done and entertaining. He has a skill that might make him some money in the future. But he still needs to do some growing up. |
