Seems like every other MMO out there has these fancy dongle key things to keep your accounts safe. Do any of them work with EvE? |

They are planning on introducing such a key system. I believe they passed out free keys to fanfest attendees like last year or the year before thinking that system was going to roll out soon. sooo pretty much SNAFU. |

How secure are they really? If i'm plugging it into a 'hostile' machine is there literally no chance of any data being copied that would allow them to emulate it?
Can i have multiple accounts tied into one single dongle?
And, if so, when can i get one? =D "War declarations are never officially considered griefing and are not a bannable offense, and it has been repeatedly stated by the developers that the possibility for non-consensual PvP is an intended feature." - CCP |

Watching my GF use hers for her games... It's a little USB drive looking thing but isn't. You push a button and a number appears on an LED. You type it into an extra field.
There might be others.
My guess is some sort of pseudo-random generator seeded with something specific to each key and a server that knows what number you're on.
So probably not really all THAT secure...unless I'm totally off. |

If its anything like what blizzard uses. Each dongle has its own algorithm # that changes every minute. You link your account to the dongles serial number on the back. That serial number lets account management know what algorithm your key is tuned to. When you log into the game, you inter your normal info, then it asked for the current dongle generated 6-7 digit code. I guess it can also be set to only ask for the dongle code if you try and enter the game from a new IP than previously used.

A hostile machine can still keylog your account name and password. Yet its kinda unlikely even knowing the time in which you acquired your particular set of key numbers would allow them to pinpoint the algorithm. OR maybe they could. I don't know. |

It is just basic Two factor authentication. Most likely it will be 3 fields for log in. The current two fields we have of user and password and a third for you to type in a number off the RSA fob that looks like a usb device or an actual usb device with a certificate on it.

No they can't find the algorithm producing the number just by getting one set of numbers and know what time they were generated. However if they obtain the serial code for the code generator, I have heard they can reproduce the algorithm. Fortunately you only ever use the serial code once. After that, they have to somehow squeeze the serial code out of the owner or be in physical possession of the generator. |

Yeah, every MMO out there has a launcher. Now we do, and look where that got us. The Gaming MoD - retro to modern, console to MMO, I blog about it if it's a game and I'm interested in it. Yes, I play games other than Eve and I don't care if you think I'm wrong. |

Quote:A tentative date and explanation were given on Friday. We're looking at a release sometime in July and you can get the explanation for the delay from the stream as there's a lot of words involved. It'll be posted this week I imagine. Big smile
The launcher was probably a pre-req for rolling it out. |
