So I thought I'd see if I could locate an object I found on the scanner (a cargo container at a safe spot). Through use of bookmarks and a frig I've managed to narrow it down to 7.1 million KMs... But I can't seem to get any closer.
I've got the direction figured (using the Angle 15 setting) but there is nothing I can see to warp to in that direction. I'm guessing the safespot must either have been made at a place that the person randomly warped to after disconnecting, or (more unlikely) that it was created by bookmarking the solar system and then doing a partial warp.
So a few questions arise...
Is there any way of getting to this safespot?
Are bookmarks the best way to locate such things or is it more viable to use cap drain and then warp with a frig?
How quickly are you able to locate safespots once you become accustomed to hunting them down? (That's just out of curiousity tbh.)
From the sounds of those who are good at this, the techniques they use are pretty closely guarded (understandably so) so any advice/help will be much appreciated

They probably made a book mark midflight between two objects, then went to that midoint bookmark and from there warped to another object making another midflight bookmark. Do this two or three times and you can make a location that is at a "random point" well off the usual warp lines and very difficult to get to.

Edited by: Auldare on 18/06/2004 03:57:58 'Easy' safespots, prob about 45mins to an hour to find. It's more a dealing of patience and being able to locate which two locations the spot is along.
Now the hard ones are a different matter, a lot of people still use the 'exploit' safespot (as far as i can remember a certain safespot is an exploit, i will not go into detail about the exact parameters to keep the thread open ). Unless you find the point in system the guy used it's near impossible to track the safespot down. Some have taken me 2 hrs, others i've given up on .
P.S. Sry the multiple bookmarked safespot is a git say near 2 hrs to get one of those as well!
All i can say man is to learn the ins an outs of the scanner and find a style that suits you. I takes practice man, just stick at it .

Chani explained the essence of how you find safespots.
It helps to be methodical in the way that you work, ie naming your bm's and using seperate folders for closing in on the safespot.
One day I might write something up and post it ----------------------------------------------- |

if it is an easy safespot (between 2 system objects), the hardest part is to find the 2 points of travel. These safespots can usually be found in about 1-2 hours. My guess as to why you can't get any closer than 7M kms is that 1 or both of your points were wrong. To make sure you have the right point you need to scan at an angle of 5 and still be lined up with a system object.
The best way IMO is using bookmarks, because my cap recharges too fast for shorter ranges and I would end up way off.
Once you are within a good range, i.e. 150,000km or closer, in order to find them alone you will need a frig that can sustain dual mwds indefinately, many interceptors can and a couple of amarr frigs can too. With 2 people you will need to be fitted with 3 mwds each, leap frogging each other(one mwds, other warps to them then mwds etc.)
The biggest trick about more complicated safespots is getting close enough.
