I have run a few setups thru EFT but, Im not sure EFT takes the Nightmares stats into consideration... I need some feed back from people who have flown both boats.. I have designed an armor tank setup for the nightmare (Hold your tomatoes till the end) That includes two damage mods ect.. tracking enchancer and Tachyons.. The Don is the standard 8 mega beam ect.. EFT says the Nightmare only out damages the don by a hair.. anyone have better feedback on this? I was hoping a nightmare would be an upgrade but EFT does not seem to say that... Your feedback is appreciated Thank you.

Try a shield tanked 3x Heat sink set up on the Nightmare.
Don't forget to do a range and tracking comparision, along with damage.

Actually, cap wise, you're far better off with pulses and scorch which give 45-50 optimal depending on skills. Damage is slightly lower than tach with faction gama, but the tracking and stable cap make up for it although, unlike the cnr you cant fit 3 damage mods if you fit for total cap stability, even with a gist -------------------------

Errm, yes you can... Using a Gist X xl booster you can quite easily get it cap stable (with 3 heatsinks).

Flying a Tach fitted setup right now, I can say that 45-50 km is often not far enough. I frequently engage at ranges out to 100km.
You can give up that extra range for cap stability if you want, but if you kill the rats before they can get in range, you will find that your cap is perfectly stable as you don't need to turn on your tank in the first place.
Remember dead rats deal no damage.
Cap stability, comes at a cost, and normally it is at the cost of overall performance.

Vs. Sansha/Blood Raiders awesome ship! Vs. Angels bad, bad, bad.
For eftness, put start with this setup and I'm sure it can refined some what. Gist is probably a must; boost amp was random lying about thing I had. CPRs worsen booster but I wanted cap stable tank and I've never had problems in any L4 mission/bonus room.

actually, it's bad vs angels and guristas.
but against all other factions it is superior to every other ship in the game.

Why not try a large shield booster? Nightmares are not lacking on tank and even a large should cut it for L4s while using much less cap.
Make more sense than putting on an XL and then gimping it down with CPRs.

because generally an xl with cap power relays will tank more per second than a large with pdu/cap flux coils.

or better yet, an XL with 2 pdus, 3 heat sinks, and umm well thats it...dont need to be cap stable to effectively do lvl 4 missions ya know...

I would like to disagree. helps your cap more than it gimps your shields for an increase in sustained tankability.
granted either way should work fine since level 4s are putting out lol for dps these days.

Edited by: Dr Takiyoma on 23/09/2008 13:47:40 Yeh you're probably right about the XL with pdus/going for a large booster. My setup just stems from flying a raven with medium cap skills and the CPRs were my best option at the time, so as I had the fittings already I just put them on. Never had any problems so never changed it! Guess I could try it out but when shields never drop below 95% (if ever any red appears)...!
So if you're getting a new one and fittings from scratch try all ppls suggestions and see what's best with your skills.
OP probably hasn't but if you came from the Caldari side, keep the CNR for those angel/gurista missions!

Nightmare hands down, Abaddon just can't compare.
The question you should be asking is Paladin vs Nightmare, which is a matter of taste and circumstance.
Also why are you armor tanking a shield ship? Why? It might work on some ships, but not this one, for this job. No.
