I've taken a break from EVE lately, and as a way to get myself back into it I'm planning on making a whole new character. I've played the game for about 4-5 months, and just got to the point where I can fly a Minmatar PvE Battleship pretty well. Now that I'm switching races, are there any huge differences to expect out of my playing style?
Mostly I'm just PvE, if that helps, and any PvP work I do will likely be either solo or in small gangs.

Why start a new character? Just cross train.

cross train, I have a toon that has BS5 for all races.
A lot of the skills are usable by different races. While you may not use projectiles if you play Amarr, all the gunnery skills that are applicable to all turrets are still required. Engineering, Electronics, Drones, Gunnery, some Spaceship Command, etc. All good irrespective what you fly.

I'm going the other way with Caldari to Minmatar. Caldari has good solid ships and if you're into mission running then compared to Minmatar running missions in a Caldari ship is mind numbingly easy. I still use my drake for missions and since I use a passive tank all I do is turn on missiles and do something else like reply to this post. Its also very boring so thats why I'm training for Minmatar ships now.
All the players I know who fly Caldari are happy. All the players I know how fly Amarr are happy. -------------------------------------------

Cross train into Caldari and Amarr. Give up on Minmatar. They have the worst capitals; their battleships can no longer compete with Amarr or Caldari battleships.
Train Amarr - massive tanks, great tracking, great alpha and dps PLUS tracking disruptors have been buffed. Cap issues are easily managed via injectors and with all those additional skills you needed to fly and use minnie ships, you won't have any fitting issues.
Train Caldari for Eve in easy mode. Passive tanked drakes with 20k hps for the win and missiles that just don't miss. The additional advantage of being able to use FoF's when jammed for extra scrumptious easy mode satisfaction.
Don't train for Gallente as blaster boats are about to be made combat ineffective with the proposed nerfs to mwd's.
Fly Caldari or Amarr battleships - they will outtank you, out dps you, out alpha you, out ecm or tracking disrupt you and soon, based on the test server, the Raven will be more agile and faster than you.
You know it makes sense...........

Some of the older dogs of Amarr often flew with projectile turrets, due to then-cap restrictions.
Such setups are still viable, if you invest the SP's into getting T2. -

gallente ftw m8
they wont totally be "nerfed" (blaster boats) because tbh, the only way to shut off MWD's is by a Warp Scrambler, which is close range anywhoo, and if the ENEMY has a warp scrambler for 7500 meter range, then YOU can to, and you can also scram them and shut off their MWD
and most blaster boats fight in falloff anyway
plus we STILL have drones
