Hi,
This probably has been discussed to death, but I only read about his today.
So what do you think is the potential of this Infinity, or should I say "EVE II - The sequal" ? -------------------------------------------------- If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles - Sun Tzu |

Edited by: Mea Lustra on 23/09/2008 12:02:09 I see no game, all I see is sceneries and models in a 3D application. I haven't seen actual gameplay, proper UI or anything. That means that it's either vapourware or won't come out within 2-3 years.

to be fair they released a combat beta engine.
However it is not eve, it is not trying to be, and by the time it comes comes out we'll be landing on planets in eve shooting each other with tanks.

I'm also inclined to vapourware, but that aside it's description is virtually identical to EVE, with the notable exception that they use Newtonian physics. That is my big gripe with EVE, the break with physics. It'll never be added to EVE as that part of the code is deep in the heart of the engine and will never be tinkered with again. -------------------------------------------------- If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles - Sun Tzu |

And that will be so awesome :)

Like some above said already, Infinity doesn't even remotely try to be EVE, quite the contrary. Yes, it looks nice, it has potential bla bla bla. But I'll reserve final judgement for the moment they finally put up a public beta for the "main" game.
Also, I think it would be at least just as good as a single-player game, the way they plan to have the story/missions/whatever evolve in the game at this particular point in time (if the developer doesn't have a change of heart, that is, and severely cuts down on the storytelling).

Most people would prefer a game to be playable rather than realistic, when it's absolutely impossible to be both. ________________________________________________
