So a while back I decided to get out of the mission running/mining NPC corp and join a player corp. So I looked around found a corp name I liked and sent in my app. I was brought into the corp with my main character and eventually moved my this character from my second account into the corp also.
Soon after this character joined up we got our first war dec. I was clueless as to what this entailed until I logged on one day and our station was camped and 2 guys in our corp had been caught off guard while mining. They were ransoming our corp. Our CEO decided to pay up to be rid of them(mistake #1) after the payment they said if he would fight one of them in his BS 1vs1 they would drop the wardec. So he fought the 1vs1(mistake #2) he lost and as they promised they dropped the war dec. Only to jump corp and war dec us the next day. They again tried a ransom but we decided no more. We'd fight. The following is my second engagement.
"I've got a war target docked in the station." I saw the call in corp chat just as I logged on.
I jumped in my cruiser fit as best as I could with scramblers, webbers, and as much DPS as my character could muster at the time. "Be there in 5 jumps, fleet me up." I replied.
I arrived in system and immediately jumped to the station. There were 4 other corp members already there. The WT was in the station and still mocking us in local. 4 of us were outside and one guy inside the station.
I moved my ship to the undock port in anticipation of his foolhardy undocking. We were going to make him pay for taking out 3 of our ships.
I didn't have to wait long.
"He's undocking!".By the time I saw the chat in local he was out of the station and in my view. This was it I was going to web and scram him as soon as possible to prevent him from escaping. He was already taking fire from 2 of my corp mates. I targeted him using my overview and glanced up to the top to verify I had a lock.....I hit my weapons modules activation....an annoying pop up warning displayed and I quickly hit the confirmation button not wanting to be bothered with trivialities....I fired... direct hit...suddenly I began taking massive damage and in two bright flashes I was a floating pod and my ship was gone.
There was much taunting and lols in local as the WT jumped quickly away.
As the confusion wore off, I jumped quickly to another system and docked trying to figure out what had happened. And then it dawned on me...I had used my overview to target a fast moving ship...and missed. Targeting some other poor player and firing on him....getting concordokkened accordingly in the process. At first I was dissapointed and then the hilarity of it all hit me and I laughed so hard my wife thought I was insane.
My inexperience with PVP and overview settings had gotten my ship destroyed and robbed me of my first coveted kill mail.
I later left that corp to join a more PVP oriented corp and am currently training the skills and knowledge I will need for PVP.
Just thought I'd share a lol moment with you all.

Good times.
I'll never admit that I briefly set my drones on a corpmate and repped an enemy because I was in a hurry and got my targets mixed up.

It happens to everyone, but you get better at it over time. Play with your overview settings to optimize them for what you need to see, which can avoid some problems. But you'll still bork it up sometimes. ;)

Yes most certainly a failure on my part. But live and learn.

Healthy PvP attitude spotted! I laugh as loudly at my ship's destruction as I do at a kill. (Which is good, 'cause I tend to lose a lot of 'em. )
If a target is undocking from a station, and the area is cluttered with other pilots, I'll generally take the time to click the target and then click the lock button, instead of doing CTRL-click. It gives you an instant to verify you've got the right guy in a constantly-shifting overview. Saved my ass a few times engaging at places like Jita 4-4 undock point.

Protip: set up an overview called war. Only have war targets show up.
Welcome to the real EvE, you'll do just fine.

Edited by: Sin Fae on 24/09/2008 08:59:16 Yes, very healthy attitude JBS2, don't worry its definately happened at least once (or thrice) to many.
Some are recorded in the Taxman Series if you look at that, one guy accidentally targetted a station (that had to hurt), and another tried to attack a gate.
Always remember, don't fly anything you can't handle losing. Fly what you can lose alot in the beginning, then later you'll find that you lose less and less. There's alot to be said on experience in PvP and theres no other way to learn except to do it.

Great post! If you have that happen again sort by type or name so you don't have to worry about distance. It can still move around but not as much and only when people enter/leave.

Well, during a war against Omerta Syndicate with another character, we were using the remote-repping dominix tactics. Now, CCP in their infinite wisdom has made it so you get flagged for shooting alliance members not in same corp.
Player A and B, both in same alliance but different corps are remote repping each other. By accident, Player A manages to fire a shot at Player B, thus getting flagged and shortly after concordokkened. Also, as Player B was repping him, thus in the eyes of Concord aiding an outlaw, she was concordokkened aswell... for being shot at ---

Good story. We've all done something dumb to get us CONCORDed before.
I was once testing out my first Crow. I warped to a belt with nobody in it, but saw some cans floating there. Pretending they were a group of enemy ships, I targeted a "battleship can" and began orbiting it. I was experimenting with pulsing my MWD to see how it affected orbit, velocity, etc.
During one of my MWD pulses, I accidentally clicked on my scrambler. CONCORD didn't like that and "bye bye" new Crow.
