If this wasn't PETA we're talking about, I'd dismiss it as "obvious troll is fake"... but... with PETA... you never know I mean, seriously, "ETHICAL" treatment of animals ? ETHICAL ?!? Well, give'em the right to vote and have a job, dammit then. And prosecute them for murder and stuff. Seriously, unless they start talking, reading and writing soon, they're good for one thing, and one thing only : getting exploited by us for whatever it is we need them for. Sheesh.

I don't know what to throw up to first, the gross misinformation about dairy cattle or the thought that the ice cream I'm eating was made by Heather from down the hall.

Quote: And of course, the veal industry could not survive without the dairy industry. Because male calves can't produce milk, dairy farmers take them from their mothers immediately after birth and sell them to veal farms, where they endure 14 to17 weeks of torment chained inside a crate so small that they can't even turn around.
mmmm if that is what makes it so tasty then I think we should try that with all edible animals!

PETA is a prime example of con artists, IE the people running PETA, using idiots, IE the people working for PETA, to make crazy bucks. PETA plays on the heart strings of the bleeding hearts. To be honest, looking at their wiki, I wouldnt be surprised if HLS considers them treading the line of domestic terrorism.... -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

While I can see PETAs rationale, they fail to take in to account the business implications of such a switch.
First off, I don't believe breast milk is FDA certified for use in commercial products, and screening would have to be much more rigorous of the people you are harvesting it from, and the quality of the milk.
Secondly, the sheer quantity of milk required would make it prohibitive to use human breast milk as you couldn't get a sufficient and steady supply to meet production demands, let alone try in increase production. Don't know where they are getting their information from, but from what I've seen, the cows are pretty happy where they are, and Ben and Jerrys only buys their milk from certain farms that meet their standards, which are pretty high.
Final and biggest point, they built the brand on Vermont Milk. If they stopped using that with out a really good reason, like all the cows in Vermont died over night, no one would buy their ice cream, because its changing a fundamental ingredient in an iconic product. Another example of this is Coors Brewing, they were founded in Colorado and sold their beer on the premise they use fresh mountain spring water. They have 1 brewery in Colorado that they keep expanding to stay true to that promise. Another brewer, Kokanee, also was known for their beer based on the fact it was brewed in the Rocky Mountains of Canada, and people bought that based on that fact. Then Molson bought them, and inorder to reduce shipping costs and increase supply, they started producing it in their London, Ontario Brewery for sale in Eastern Canada. Sales plummeted on the news of this, because it wasn't real Kokanee, because it wasn't brewed in BC. They moved production back to BC and sales started climbing again. Ben and Jerrys would suffer the same fate if they changed the milk they used to anything thats not from Vermont Cattle.
Rebut that PETA. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is born right handed, only the great over come it.

To ease the suffering of cows the majority of them would have to be put down, they fail to mention this. PETA is irrelevant in the rest of the world.

I believe thats a message being "pushed but not said". PETA asserts that cows are in pain due to constant milking so human women should see how it feels to be milked like a cow.
I recall seeing a clip from the show dirty jobs that stated cows were only milked in several minute sittings on rotating platforms. I cant recall if the cows had several milking sessions a day (I would imagine they would) or not.
In any case, trying to use logic with a group such as PETA is like trying to.... well... I cant think of any anology for PETA. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

You know if a cow that is producing milk is not regularly milked.. THEN its in pain. They fill up with milk. And if you don't milk them, they explode. (not really but it does hurt them)

peta is what happens when nuts become activists
it's one thing to protest drilling holes in monkees skulls or skinning animals alive but omg milking abuse
honestly why dont they make themselves usefull and go clear landmines or do something for humanity instead of being the constant pest they love to be .

This article cracks me up honestly.
Alright, so my best friend is a truck driver and he delivers milk to some of the cheese factories around here. For the local run this usually means 3 trips a day. Each trip he is hauling 70,000 pounds of milk. At the end of his run his backup arrives, they switch vehicles, he goes home, and the other driver takes over. The vehicles don't stop. Your talking 6 trips and a rounded total of 420,000 pounds of milk.
I know the cows can generally produce around 20lbs of milk. I wonder how many women it would take?

I bet having humans breed so as the mothers can produce breast milk will surely help the worlds non-human biological populations greatly
I can see it now, an endless supply of child labor
