it was a hardware problem with the server (or at least that's what you told us).
it took you months to get a new server (what's so special about it?)
it lasted for only few ours (please, tell me who's your supplier. Just in case I move over to Iceland I want to avoid it).
Please, be real:
1) separate the http server from the portrait rendering machine.
2) pay veldspar to Chribba for his cached portra****
3) pay more veldspar to Chribba and outsource to him the HTTP sever that serves the portraits
4) whenever you manage to have a portrait rendering machine, just make it render the portrait to an external RAID 1 disk, 20 ours later when it goes boom, just UPS to Chribba one of the mirrored disks with whatever portraits you managed to render.
5) goto 4
