how about maiking a paint program ingame much like that in the Xbox360 game Forza Motorsport 2: >making every users ship(s) uniquely theirs! >also good for having Corporation logo's applied to the vessels as well. >ship names applied to hull >great past time whilst waiting on next skill...
Imagine the possibility's!

Not for Show.. Just for your PC
You edit a ship type to look how YOU want it to look and for YOu it looks like that.. noone else.
Simple, bish, bosh, bash... creativity restored and no lag added value

i feel it would be good to have like 20 or 30 paint jobs made up and for them to be available to buy in a station for like LP or or something.

Yeah, i don't quite think that custom paint jobs would be a good idea because that would add a large amount of custom data that would have to be loaded.
However I do think that there could be an assortment of pre-made paint jobs per ship model purchasable with LP or isk at certain stations. Having them pre-made would greatly lighten any load issues on the system, server side and client. Not to mention I mean if they were pre-made you could still have a nice selection of 30-40 options.
Weather its been brought up or not in the past, I don't really care myself. But I do think it would be an interesting feature. ____________________________

there would be no lag....are u kidding me? >on the game Forza Motorsport 2(if u have played it or not), the amount of lag u get from playing with other players is no more/less as i would be with the same, boring, unimaginative blaw paint as EVE currently possesses. >also...if this idea was applied in a future patch, it would be a great way to get more players in game(as in many new players=more money for CCP). CCP is a business...money is the ultimate goal. >not trying to be mean or anything...but lag will not occur...what basically causes the most lag is usually people with slow internet speeds....wen 1 person lags...he/she brings down the lot.

Yeah not sure why this hasn't been done - screw corp logos, just some nice cammo paint jobs would be cool.

I would love custom paint or some more ship variety - ie faction colored ships even if they are just base stats.
To much customization though will lag out high population systems...The homeworld stripes though - brilliant, that is simple enough and with only certain colors available wouldn't lag too much --------------------------------------------- -In charge of the weekly "Royal Lottery" -I see fail everywhere, and it's like they don't even know they're failing |

this has been suggested by about every second person in the game, and dismissed every time on the bases that when you have 18,000 people each with a different colored ship, the game slows to a crawl as you are constantly loading textures. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

well then....limit the texture amount....or get new "up 2 date" servers...problem solved

Eve Online servers are probably more advanced than any other mmo's servers out there. I mean most other games servers barely handels 5k players eve does this all the too well with 20-50k people and the thing is its not just going to be the servers going to be suffering from this change your very own computer would have issues handeling that many.

==FAIL==
Custom paint jobs are called "faction ships" We make them darker and more mysterious ie Caracal Navy Issue.
Personally custom skinning is just asking for giant ***** indy's.
No thanks

you have no idea about how the eve server works do you? its the transmission time my friend.
the eve servers are in iceland. im in Australia. no matter how you compress the textures, there is still going to be at least a 3 second pause between a hostile ship coming on grid and my game unfreezing because thats how long it takes to send a packet from my computer to iceland and back. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

If it take 3 seconds to get a packet from Iceland to Australia you need to re-evaluate your internet provider my friend or get a faster computer that doesn't bottleneck when a ship enters a grid (which ever the case may be).

Wrong.
There are reasons why we don't have the feature, and they have been in discussion for years now. Just a few points: development time, transmission volume, control over the images, copyrights.. |

Edited by: Astria Tiphareth on 29/09/2008 13:37:53 The best we can ever hope for are different CCP-approved paint-jobs, or more likely, alliance logos and specific coloured areas that Premium graphics could have custom shaders do (e.g. for a series of panels or lines you can pick their colour, and the custom shader on your PC adjusts the texture colour on that basis). The server lag in both of those cases is minimal, and the graphics lag is optional. Full custom jobs just aren't going to happen.
Edit: The key is making sure the load is on your graphics card not the server. Existing logos and a bit of colour information aren't that heavy - full textures are. Getting your graphics card to adjust textures is dead easy with modern shaders, if you have the GPU power, which is why it'd have to be Premium graphics only and on an option. |

welcome to Australian internet. it does take that long. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |
