My mate just started his trial account & loves the game so i gave him some isk to pay for 30 days (via gtc) realizing that a trial account couldnt post on the forums I needed to get my money back so I could post on the gtc forums for him. You can't send money on a trial account so we tried the market trick: I put a crappy item up for 50 mill and he bought it.
I dont know what happened but the isk has disappeared from his account and not turned up in mine. I cancelled the sell order i made and the money has still vanished.
I realise this is probably a thing to stop isk sellers, but does this mean that my isk has just gone?

ISK always go to the person who has the lowest priced order. So basically, he sold his item and got 50 million for it. You can ask your friend to check his wallet to see where the money went and try to ask the person for the ISK back, but the likelihood is that the ISK is gone.

I think you misunderstood.
I put the SELL order up for 50mill .
He bought that specific sell order.
The money disappeared from his account and didnt turn up in mine.

Actually YOU misunderstand.
There's no way to buy a specific sell order.
If you select a sell order and buy it, you are placing a buy order for that item at the value listed in that sell order, but you are not buying from that sell order: you will always buy from the lowest priced sell order (and paying it more then the seller requested).
Plus you fail in two other things:
1) there are no 30d GTCs any more. You want to buy a 60d GTC (they recently went for 500+ mill, but are now going down and you can fetch one for around 450 mil).
2) you should post the GTC buy request with your character and ask for an offer to your frined's character name, but the isks should be on your friend's account, not your. You are posting in the forum, but he is buying.

They did not disappear, they were spent: he got the item in that station hangar and the seller got the money.
And no: you were not the seller. The seller is always the one with the lower price, no matter how much the buyer pays.
Station with an empty market (assuming it exixsts).
Player A put 1 Tritanium for sale at 3 isks.
Player B put 1 Tritanium for sale at 100 isks.
Player C select Player B's order and buy: it basically he's placing a buy order for 1 Tritanium at 100 isks.
Player A's order is fullfilled for 100 isks. Player A gets 100 isks. Player C spends 100 isks and gets 1 Tritanium. Player B's order is still pending.
This is market mechanic. Do not petition: it's working as intended. Asking player A for the money is the same as asking him for a gratuity: he may give it or just LOL@You. Or even try your noobishness and actually scam you some more.

But they are very rare.
And cost much more than 1/2 the 60d cards.
Last 30d I sold I fulfilled a WTB 30d GTC 320mil
