I think yes. But I remenber to see 'some' misleading description in EVE, including the range bonuses in show info :S Anyways, antimmater, plutonium, uranion and thorion charges reduce your optimal
My posts DOES reflect the view of my corp and ally... ..or a mistake they did when let me post. |

Yes, if it is negative, it is subtracted, making the Optimal shorter. Usually, short range weapons (blasters, autocannons) have a short Optimal anyway (1000 m or so) and a longer Falloff, so the negative bonus doesn't affect them (you're supposed to operate them in the Falloff range anyway).
However, if you put antimatter in a rail gun... it will do more damage but will severely shorten the range of the rail gun, often past the point where the gun can even track the target (rails have trouble tracking close fast targets).

Range bonuses for ammo can be a bit confusing because the website has the sign for the bonuses backwards.
Antimatter decreases your range by 50%, so 10km becomes 5km.
Iron will increase your range by 60%, so 10km becomes 16km.
In-game the ammo range bonuses show correctly with antimatter having -50% and iron having +60%.

Also, with the gun fitted and ammo loaded, while you're in space, you can right-click on the weapon and Show Info -- the attributes will show the current optimal/falloff/other attributes based on your current skills, ammo, modifiers, and fleet bonuses, instead of just the base stats for the gun itself. |

Get yourself into relatively safe space and load up 3 or 4 guns of exactly the same type (eg 125mm rails). Load anti-matter to one, iron to another and 2 other types of ammo.
Right click each and show info.....compare the optimal ranges.
Immediately re-dock, unload your guns and keep the notes.....never, ever load your guns like this again as it's just BAD, but it does serve to show you the differences in ammo types.
