Edited by: Marie Duvolle on 29/09/2008 09:26:35 It's a lvl 3 mission and right when you enter you get swarmed by targets. The objective is to kill some structure 25km away. When you enter the mission this is what you see after 5 seconds.
BS isn't allowed to enter and BC's get ripped apart. Anyone have an idea how to do this one? It's a regular lvl 3 mission and not covered by EVE Survival.

Did it yesterday with a brutix with 6 med rails, 3 cap recharges and a web, 1 large rep and 2kin/2therm hardeners and a lot of warping out.
Another tactic is to warp in, drop some shitty drones, warp out, get new drones. When you warp in next time the NPCs will be shooting the old drones and that buys you an extra minute.
I tried shooting down that communication post they said in the briefing but couldnt take it down before all the reinforcements warped on top of me. ---
Thanks for all that supported me. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you.

Nm, I don't want to lose a ship over it, thanks though. When I canceled the mission I went from 6.56 to 5.94, which is quite a lot

the only thing i can think of would suit caldari or a range specialist. enter mission, drop bookmark and warp out. then Warp back to bookmark with a long range and pick them off that way - assuming its not a deadspace.?? all my comments are based on a guess, but the tactic is effective. |

Edited by: SharpMango on 29/09/2008 11:39:17 okay, i havent done this mission, i know it looks rather horrific, but every mission is do-able, including in a low skill set up. you/we just gotta be clever about it.. now this target is 25km away, thats not too far at all, question is..how much damage can it take? hypothetically, one could do the following.
1.Warp in 2.immediately begin targetting the structure. 3. whilst waiting for targetting lock, align ship to a warpable object. 4. Accelerate to full speed. 5. However many guns you have, just press f1-f8, whatever. 6. the target should NOW lock (u can do all the above in under 3-4 seconds). you've automatically fired your first volley. 7. As soon as object is destroyed, u can insta-warp to the object in front of you as you are already aligned and at full speed. --- Now, if youre struggling with tanking, make your tank fit for a very specific purpose, to hold off the gallente faction (misison specific hardeners etc).. and forget everything else..u have one goal, that is to destroy that target, anything else is superfluous. oh, and u can repeat the above steps as many times as required, if your tank cant hold long enough.
_____ There are other options ofc, like wtfpwning them all, but thats in intermediate tactics 101 =D

About 10 minutes of sustained brutix fire and drones. After I destroyed all vessels I went afk for a while and when I came back it was still shooting.

With 1 rep and 4 hardeners I still had to warp out after a minute or so.

Problem is that more and more ships start closing in, and you can't tank over two dozen blaster battlecruisers, cruisers and destroyers orbiting you at 5 km, plus turrets. ---

This mission is so far out there compared to other level 3's, I have no problems with things being a challenge but there's limits.

Well they should lower the HP of the communication relay thing, I tried to destroy it before they called in the reinforcements but those arrived before I managed to take it down. ---

You know...reading about this mission, and especially the comment above, makes me wonder just what exactly the mission writers are thinking when they make some of these missions. Some are very easy for almost any Cruiser-sized ship, while some are so hard that they are only doable in the most gimped-out Battlecruiser available, or with a friend or two.
Are there standards that the missions writers adhere to, or are they just thinking "I've had a rotten day, let's make the poor buggers squirm"?
If the mission writers are thinking that a single BC should be able to do every L3 mission in existance, then they need to stop thinking that the single BC is a passively-tanked Drake. |

Hmm....from the screenshot, they aren't really close. Just turn the tub around and start speeding! Some of them will follow, but if you enough skills they shouldn't be able to catch you. Then...just pick pick pick pick. One way is to lure them all after you...then speed them away from the structure (like 150km) and then warp out. Then warp back and voila, the baddies are at 150km and you only have to worry about the batteries. |

I don't know the exact damage output but my tanking BC's would handle that kind of firepower for at least 5 min or so (I have a passive, an active shield, and an active armor tanker BC. The armor tank can handle more dps than the passive shield, but isn't cap stable. The active shield isn't cap stable either but has more dps than the other two). Light T2 drones to roll up the frigates, and concentrate the cruiser scale guns on the cruisers.
Ideally I'd bring my buddy the logistics cruiser pilot with me, and use a DPS ship, but it seems very soloable. (My passive drake tanked the 'bonus room' of angel extravaganza L4 solo, which is about 1500 dps, ~1000 explosive. I did come very close to warping out but managed to take out just enough bad guys to reach parity at ~15% shields...)
If you are not a heavy tank fit, jump in, shoot some stuff and jump out without going much of anywhere.
Repeat until you're jumping in with the majority of the frigates sitting on top of your warp in spot.
Now refit your ship, jump in and pop smartbombs. kill frigates. jump out, get guns, and come back to clean up.

I'd probably try and fit a Afterburner and a speed mod to kite the swarm and pop them bit by bit when they sort by speed. I suppose that it's a deadspace complex that doesn't allow warping in at range? |

- Warp in - kill the Communications Tower. - Kite the blob by flying away from them. - There should be enough time to kill the Comms Tower before the blob reaches you. - Do not shoot the Station before you have killed the Comms Tower.

Seems like maybe they got the new lvl 3's and new lvl 4's the wrong way around The new lvl 4's i been offered are not worth the time undocking for no challenge what so ever. Seems by what i hear here this mission is quite a challenge but certainly can be done, the lvl 3 missioner's i speak to in game say the same though to be honest about half of them fly passive drakes which can stand up to lvl 4 mission with no problems !

My speeddrake (which is my Passive drake with overdrives/AB2) can pull 650 m/s, which ain't shabby. It'll get you out of range of the cruisers while you munch the frigs. my worst resists give me 46k effective shields on that one, which should last a bit.
I still like tanking till the frigs close then mass smartbombing them, myself. |

I managed too do it on my second attempt with a Prophecy
I admit it wasnt easy . Hardest mission i think ive ever done appart from the last room on angel extravaganza lvl 4
I basically did it by choosing long range weaponry and keeping everything at range as long as possible by flying awy from it as soon as i had thier attention.
Kill off all the easiest targets first then the slightly slower heavy hittes. If you get heavy hitters withing 18km of you then start taking out about half of them and then go back too the swarms of smaller stuff. (Basically manage the dps - these guys are gallente and gallente hit hard at close range)
Eventually youll have killed most of them and or reduced the dps enough that you can tank it. so turn around and reapproach the target building. (its probably about 200km away by now)
Finally clear out the towers and the rest of the pirates then kill the building.
Very hard work but not impossible.

I nearly lost my ship trying this one myself. I had to cancel it and took a faction beating as well :( Another one that was hard for me was My Sweet Privateer. The BS had a NOS and it completely owned me. Had to have a friend help me finish it.

I did the mission just before and admit i wettened my pants when i read the infos here in advance (no info in evesurvival). Well, sounded like some fun in my boring missionrunner life so i jumped in my dusty semi-passive drake, fitted only 2 invulnII (had no gallentespecific at hand), 2 shield recharger mods and a damagecontrolII (just in case ) and on my way into the frying pan. My strategy: like suggested before after arrival i aligned to an object the other way from the ore station (one push and you are in warp), slowboat on and fire with all my 7 heavies. Shields never went down below 75% (k, have full recharger implants) which means it is quite hard, but finally no problem at all. I would rate difficulty similar to blockade lvl3, if ever. If you miss to reduce the spawns in time (i dont know if they are triggered or spawn by time) you'll really become problems if your tank is weak. My advice: shoot the frigs first (catalyst, they pop with one volley) and now and then the closest bc (thorax/brutix). No web or scramblers, only some dampening; take out the ore station at last, it takes a hell of dps and therefore time (like all those senseless buildings), and it goes up in flames when about 2/3 of armor (?), same the telescope thing (but i think it isn't necessary). I had time to loot all wrecks with one tractor in that time . Loot of ore station are funny 999 plagioclase, 5 mining crystals each mercoxite and hedbergite, the ships drop some tags, salvage is about 1,5-2 million worth it. I got about 650K reward and bonus each (agent q8; system 0,5), LP i didn't check. If you mind your standing to gallente is valuable then let it be, i ruined mine a long time ago Hope this helps you, fly safe o/

I liked this mission, lots of lovely tags for the LP shop. I did it solo, but I did 'cheat' warped in got full aggro, decided whether to turn my hardner on, decided against it. Loosed the drones, watched the pretty explosions. I never believed that a passive shield tanked Ishtar really works that well, but there you go.
Other option is of course take a friend or friends, none to hand? Try the Help My Mission (helpmymission) channel as there is normally someone around who can help.

Kiting is the only way , effectivly as I saw in my drake if more than 6-7 cruisers are allowed within 30 km they will break your tank.
So fit an AB and stay 30ish km or more away and you will take 0 dmg and eventually kill em all.

You might have that setup & so do I but a lot of people doing level 3 missions don't have that sort of setup or the skills to fly a HAC. If I took my cerb in that mission I would most probably win as I use a similar setup to you but alas we don't all fly HACs so your statement whilst true might serve to rub there noses in your superiority. |

If 7 cruisers break a Drake tank it must be very badly fitted or the pilot badly skilled as mine passively fitted can tank full agro in the AE level 4 bonus room for a long time. |

that's a matter of opinion - i run L4's most nights with 1 or 2 RL pals and it's always a breeze (even easier after revamping our setups after advice from this forum last week) and usually we do any mission in 30-75 minutes and then 15-30 minutes salvaging.
two nights ago he got a new mission that wasn't listed under EVE-survival (don't know the name, will ask him then post it) and we warped in to possibly the largest Amarrian fleet i've yet seen ingame in a mission and the firepower was intense. within literally seconds my Domi was into armour and i had barely gotten my armour reps running before i was into structure and i had no time to warp out before my Domi bought it. my pals started aligning once they realised that the tank was about to be destroyed and one of them lost his Maelstrom.
gotta be honest, despite the losses, it was really great - this was the first time in as long as i can remember that a mission was a serious challenge, rather than just an exercise we were slogging our way through - although, that said, it actually felt WAY overpowered for a L4 and actually felt much more like an L5
