Really shouldn't even be a matter of increased petitions and workloads, though. Losing your ship before you are actually in the game = broken / defective / not working right.
Can anyone really say with a straight face that your ship arriving in the game before you do, and dying before you ever get there is "working as intended"?
Look, it's not rocket science. There is a protocol (set of messages that go back and forth between the client and the server) when you log in. Like so:
1. Server recieves login request from client.
2. Server authenticates the user, and starts sending game data.
3. Server places the player's ship on the grid
4. Data transmission to the client is complete, client starts rendering the game (you stop seeing the "entering game" screen).
5. Client finishes rendering the game, and gives the player control (you can start clickin stuff and activating modules).
What's wrong with the above? It's pretty obvious. Step 3 shouldn't happen before step 5. They coded it wrong. Since it's coded wrong, if they can't easily fix it, they should just put an extra bit in there where the server goes "damn, his ship got blown up before step 5, stick another one in his hanger".
The end. It's broken. Fix it.

The lagfests we are seeing almost every day only help to make it clear that this game cannot handle the fights people want to get into.
Even though they try very hard to boost systems by throttling connections, restrictions on player capacity it just doesnt handle it.
If you loose a ship through their server not being able to handle the amount of people in the system you should get reimbursed fully.
This is a game I know, but we also pay money every month to play this game!

If carriers cost 1.2-1.3 billion, that is also that equivalent of 2 or 3 GTCs, or about $70-105 in real (well, US) money. You pays your money and you takes your chances, but losing this kind of ISK to circumstances beyond your control is disheartening, and CCPs refusal to acknowledge the problem is bad customer relations, as well as poor programming.
I'm just not sure that changing CCPs reimbursement policies will make much of a difference.
And to answer another question, we wouldn't have to bring 600 ships to kill 450 BoB if BoB hadn't embarked on their Maximum Damage to the Servers campaign.

I agree CCP shouldn't be shining you on and replying with canned answers in these instances. This policy is wrong and it should be addressed. |

I don't think anyone would disagree that there should be consequences to pvp, but being able to lag a system to death should not be an instant win. Couple that with the fact that you basically never get reimbursements due to lag, and its a recipe for blobs.

The concept that CCP cannot or will not reimburse ship losses when their hardware failed because it would set a dangerous precedent is ludicrous. CCP needs to own up to the fact that their troublesome goal of supporting and actively promoting massive fleet battles on said weak hardware/software/network is a max fail and reinstate these pilots ships. Be men and have honor. Battles should be won and lost fairly, not on the failure of your game due to poor planning and crappy support.

I agree with shinma, and its not about loosing the ship its how we lost them, I would gladly loose a ship in combat thats fair and where we are able to fight back, but when you stare at a black screen for 4 hours only to see damage notifications but nothing else is not how you want to loose a 3 billion isk investment. |

I have the expectation that for my monthly fee, I will get to play a game that works as advertised. If the game fails, as it did yesterday, CCP owes its clients reimbursement as well as an apology and corrections for the future.

Am unlucky and have loaded grid to a pod 3 times this week. Whatever faction and whatever ship size you are using, it is a terrible way to lose any size of ship. /signed
