Originally by: Infested II Well, I'm not sure this is a change that has been propsoed, but I don't know where else to post my ideas about what should be changed....
Basically my friend said insurance works by covering the cost of the minerals of the ship or something....
And I feel this is a flawed method, because various ships like interceptors, Thorax's, and other big battlesihips are on average overpriced compared to what the insuarnce covers for them.
An example was the cheapest I found a stilleto was 4.5 million gold, in 5 different systems. However the insurance only covered 2.25 mil value, and thats paying like 800k for insurance or something.
Basically Insurance should be changed to incoporate actual market supply value of the ship.
Negate all prices over 8 or so million, and just take hte reasonable average price, and base insurance on that.
I build and sell Interceptors, the claw and the stiletto. Atm to get construction components to build these you have to cough up 3-4 times the mineral value on the components. Some of the componets even 10 folds or more. To build one interceptor I require 190 construction components, spread out on 7 different types. Nuclear reactors being the most expensive component, followed by nanomechanical coprocs. The cost just of the nuclear reactors and the coprocs easily run over 1.5 mill. Then there is still left 5 types of construction components not in the calc. Here is a list of components required:
Ceramite Composite Armour Plate (30) Deflection Shield Emitter (25) Electrolytic Capacitor Unit (25) Laser Sensor Cluster (20) Nanomechanical Microprocessor (20) Nuclear Reactor Unit (30) Plasma Thruster (40)
Minerals, slasher hull, construction blocks and RAM tech's left out. 4.5 hour build time pr unit + all traveling around to fetch components....
Its not the builders that drive prices up and get them far away from platinum insurance value.
As for mineral prices. CCP operate with NPC mineral prices set pre-castor patch. After castor patch the market became player driven above anything else, the curent mineral values that insurance payback operate with is ridicilous to put the least. Take agent missions where you have to fetch megacyte and zydrine as an example. You end up pay the agent for doing the mission for him, not the other way around.
The game have changed and so have the availability of resources within it. The danger of aquire some of these increased, and the work hours required gone up. However as far as I know this never reflected back at how CCP value minerals.
There is a reason why many just pimp bpc's rather than build the final product for sale. Work hours required seldom make it profitable.
