I don't know the proper term for the problem i'm having but when i'm a certain distance away from any station the textures do a kind of rippling/shifting thing. This only seems to happen with stations so far. I have noticed it's worst when the side of the station is in or nearly in shadow.
I thought it was my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro drivers but i tried it with a GeForce4 MX, and the same thing happens.
Is any1 else having this problem and how can i sort it out? |

yes...i'm having the same problem...seems like the further you move away fom the station or gate, u see the textures on surfaces that are on the other side of the surface or on a whole dffrent surface all together.

This happens to me too. I've got a radeon 7200. It seems that the rippling effect comes from moving towards or away from the station. If you're stationary it doesn't happen. It seems to happen most severely where two polygons meet. Like, where two sections of the station come together. Then I see a sawtooth kind of pattern and it moves along the seam between the two polygons. As I get closer to the station it goes faster and faster until eventually it dissapears and everthing looks ok. But it looks awful until that point. |

It's Z-buffer floating-point errors. Lots of games with a large depth of field have them.
Basically numbers get so small that your computer starts truncating values, and slight errors crop causing these effects.

alright that wonderfull. Any ideas on how to fix it? It's really making most of the game look like crap for me.

There is no way to "fix it". Your card has only 32 or 24 bits of depth information per pixel, and that's it.
Ciao, Aronis!

Then why would it be flawless in any other program?

I only get it near Amarr stations.
I have never got it in any other game.
Though I think I heard ccp was dealing with this.

I am not an expert on 3D graphics, but I do know about the z-buffer problem and I find it hard to see that it could not be solved in the 3D engine by special handling of far-away objects.
However, I believe that CCP has more pressing issues to take care of in balancing gameplay than fiddling with rippling textures. ---------- We are born naked, cold and hungry - then things get worse... |
