What does it look like for the future of the lag situation? Are large fleet battles going to be possible eventually?
"250,000 People, One Server... Build, Expand, Dominate..." or something like that
Our hopes are high. Is it really possible?
How many people can one system support? Is the technology developing to the point where 2000 people could fight in one system? What will happen when EVE grows to the point where we have 5000 people in one system? What are the system limits now? What will they be in the future?
Please fill us in!

I've seen a great improvement with fleet battles in 0.0 space since StacklessIO was implemented, 100v100 fleet battles with lag that is hardly noticable. Mission Accomplished.

I;ve noticed a reduction in lag around empire since the patch so its a step in the right direction.
But large fleet battles will still suffer, net traffic being the most difficult to control. As mentioned in the recent dev blog, if the server misses a "heart beat" or probalby a net packet it can screw things up.
Lag will always be a part of online gaming, but at least 100 v 100 is very much do-able again in EvE.

Yes! These blogs are excellent, thank you for your response. I also have noticed a great reduction in lag which gives me hope for the future. We are still experiencing a slowing->complete lag lock->disconnect scenario when nearing 1000 players in a system. Is there hope that in the future even battles of this size or greater might be possible? Is lag still an important issue for developers?

1100 ships?? HOLY JUMPING JAHOSIPHAT! I have to say that CCP has impressed me with thier managment for a third time now. The first was when they incorporated solid state hard drives (really neat), the second was an excellent response to high sec ganking (of which I was a x3 victim) and now this StacklessIO improvement. Most online games will not support anywhere close to 1400 people in the same place at the same time. 1100 players in one cluster all going at it even for 10 minutes is something to boast about!
Wish I was there to see it....anyone got a video??
Nice job CCP!

Turn your monitor off, it looked like that. :P Unless your talking about a different 1000+ situation than the one I'm thinking of.

I'd like it to be able to handle even just my own ship but post quantum rise any action whatsoever takes minutes, even a mouseover action. Jumping through gates means I go off and make a cuppa and have a smoke, and maybe if there was something very shiny loading up it would be worth the wait but mostly it dosent load any models at all. And not impressed that pressing jump on a stargate while being attacked by wt's causes the game to hang. |

Lag is an issue in Quantum rise. Not for just me personally but my corp mates and nearly everyone else I've chatted with. There has only been one person maybe out of a hundred that said they hadn't been experiencing problems.
Is there a patch of some kind coming? |
