Originally by: jnky I moved to Australia a few months back from the UK. Having played Eve for years downtime was never an issue as I was always at work during the week but now downtime is like 9-10pm here.
Surely theres a better time to do this, I was sort of dealing with this barely, but with all this extended downtime its beyond a joke, I've been able to play for like 1 hour tonight and thats not the only time this week. To top it off my bloody wife has caught onto this and gets me to do silly little chores from 9-10 which just isn't on guys.
There has to be a better time for it, give your Aussie customers some luvin pls.

(1) You're asking CCP to pay staff to work outside normal hours - expensive, and demanding on the staff too - for 2/3s of the month (2) You're asking the players to deal with constantly changing DT (3) No-one likes you or anything you say.

1 - Shift work at a data centre is NOT unheard of. It's the norm. 2 - Dealing with a constant change? Every month is constant? 3 - You've invalidated anything you've ever said or will say forever. Have a nice day troll.

I dont think a rotating DT is the answer...us Kiwis and Aussies just accept that this is when DT happens, and we can deal with it...i mean, if we can deal with all the damn Pom's and Yank's in the game we can deal with most things....its just the extended DT's and patching get a bit much, it pretty much ends the nights gaming on EVE...we pay as much as anyone else for EVE...but we definately dont get the same service.

Yes, and if you non GMT +12 to +8 players don't like us whinging, then too bloody bad. What else are we supposed to do during extended DT's? Besides it's amusing to watch you all come up with all and sundry excuses for NOT moving the DT to your prime time.

Who says we don't like it? I haven't seen comedy like this since Howard's face when he was presenting the world cup to the winning team in 2003.

I've completely changed my sleeping pattern now to deal with this issue.
DT for me is 7pm - 8pm (WA)unless extended. So I sleep all afternoon and play from 8pm until Im tired again.
I'm not going to complain about DT being in my 'prime time',but I will say that the 4am alarm clock ops are starting to hurt. |

Better idea. Ask the powers that be to change the day to 23 hours so we can have a day that gradually goes backwards until noon is at midnight and then continues back to noon again. You've got about as much chance of that happening as your idea.
Eve DT is 11am GMT end of story. Aussies have been whining about this since as far back as I can remember and I have been playing for 4 years now. Don't try to flame me cos I come from the UK, I am trying to emigrate to Aus myself.

Round our circles we know that DT (9pm local) stands for "dinner time". With both of us being eve players, we give in and cook dinner, do the dishes etc during DT. Also, having jobs, coming back online after DT leads to playing until way too late to cope with the pre-6am alarm.
The only good thing about daylight savings is that I can actually run some of the longer missions, but now I have work out when to cook dinner, as 10pm is a bit late :(
Damn you CCP, you made a game that is way too addictive!

The most logical time to have dt is when the server population is the lowest. Cause then the fewest number of people are disrupted by it.
Does anyone know when this is?

Yes, because having the development team mess about with code and the running of the server at daft-o-clock in the morning because they're operating on GMT is a REALLY REALLY GOOD IDEA.
I CAN'T IMAGINE THERE EVER BEING ANY PROBLEMS WITH LETTING HALF ASLEEP PEOPLE WORK ON A LIVE SERVER CLUSTER.

The biggest problem I see with moving the DT is, besides that's it going to **** someone else off, is that it's currently set mid-day where the server is actualy located. And I see a few reasons for this.
The majority of staff actualy works during regular business hours, so DT has to be done during this time. It can't be done at the start of shift because systems have to be checked and people need to get setup and ready. And it can't be too late in the day because if something goes wrong and they need to spend extra hours working on it, they don't want to run into overtime and be forced to pay the entire staff overtime. Seriously, there's no way they could just call it a day with the server down, so they'd have to pay more and that would eat into costs.
Does it suck? Yes. But until a day where server maintenance doesn't require the system to come down, someone must suffer. And I'm just glad it isn't me. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

Suggest CCP IP blocks Australia from one hour before DT to one hour after DT for extra lulz.
In general I sympathise, but all those who demand that CCP **** up their work schedule to benefit your play time, know that I am heartily laughing at your plight as I play EVE from when I get home straight through until I go to bed. -

That would make sense you would think.
The time of lowest server population is about 3-4 hours earlier. If CCP were serious about service delivery they would do DT at about 7AM - 8AM their time which isn't exactly asking much when you want to run a global service that people pay for.
I don't notice companies like banks closing down their ATM networks so their staff can have lunch.
If Autralia / New Zealand was truly the most quiet part of the day then I could except DT. The fact that it's not - and the fact that the quietest time is still at a reasonable time in CCP HQ for doing DT - and they don't smacks of at worst laziness and at best ambivalence.

Reading that looks like a whole lot of nothing can be done in Iceland until people have moped around the office until noon wondering how quick lunchtime will come.
