First - yes, I read the guide.
I have been running exploration sites for awhile and I find it far preferable to missioning so will likely turn exploration into my "primary" method of generating isk.
I have all relevant skills at lvl 4. Pushing these skills to lvl 5 will take some time, so wanted to get the most out of it in order. I was wondering what the "experts" pushed to lvl 5 first? I was thinking (in order):
1) Astrometric Triangulation (best to increase chance of a "hit" per analysis?) 2) Signal Acquisition (decreased scan time is always good) 3) Astrometric Pinpointing (lower deviation - though this never seems to be an issue)
Sound about right?
Thanks in advance...

Can you explain to me how do you do ISKs doing explorations?

Well you won't make as much as with lvl 4 missions or 0.0 ratting, but it is for me at least more interesting.
Radar/Magnometric sites for hacking/archeology/salvage. Can generate about $100M a week or so, sometimes more. I haven't played with the gas clouds though, so don't know that market. Will do the "Unknown" sites occassionally for a changeup - decent rat bounties there, plus chance to escalate (though random and somewhat rare).

Triangulation first, then Pinpointing, and then SA. All should be IV before going to V for any of them.

Not on your list but Cov Ops V was a nice boost.

This. It's +10% and only rank 4 compared to the rank 8 SA. Plus you get the bonus of the nice CPU reduction. --

Thanks! Didn't think to push Covops V first.

Edited by: Conq Er on 03/10/2008 05:46:33 Don't believe anything people say about good results with level V. There is absolutely ZERO advantage taking ALL exploration skills to level V. I know a few lvl5'ers that every now and then start whining about how they are scanning for 2/3 hours and still cannot get a 0 lockdown. Only train those that reduces scan time. Triangulation/pinpointing V is about as useless as Salvager V or Hacking V.

Zero advantage, no way. training the skills increases the chance you find a site. your average scanningtime will lower a bit, the chance you got to spend 3 hours scanning before you actually find something becomes smaller, not zero.
Don't have the skills in V myself, but maybe will train them in time to make one char a perfect scan alt.

You certain there is nothing else you could be doing with those almost 3 months of training? The return on your time is so poor, you could spend that time training almost anything else and receiving a far, FAR larger benefit to another aspect of your gameplay. You could take up invention,or something and use that to help fund your objectives. You could go train a falcon up and be a target of hatred and envy
But WHY would you spend a almost a month per skill on an extra %5 chance?

Because they live and breath exploration. Plus anything that reduces player effort is inordinately valuable. |

To be fair, it is not with this char, but my exploration/invention/cargo hauling/etc alt. Enemy is my main and combat centric. The falcon pilot option does have merit though...
After reading the additional posts, I may just take CovOps to 5 for the reduced scan time and call it good. I already use the GCU's and a 6% prospector implant with my Anathema. Luckily I don't seem to have to go 2-3 hours without finding sites, I hit lowsec systems with 2-3 at a time often (though getting the locations locked down can be a PITA).

I'd go with:
-Signal Acquisition -Astrometric Triangulation -Astrometric Pinpointing
