Ok... Actually I'm at Navigation LVL 5 and using a 1MN afterburner in a Retriever..I also have 2 maximum cargo hold extender's installed.
So with the 1MN afterburner there is a small improved Meters per Second.. I think it's about 4 or 5 MPS increase. So What I'm trying to do is use a 10MN after burner. When I try to bring the 10 on line I'm getting a message that states you need 50.0 power units to fit a 10MN afterburner to the Retriever. And it goes on to say the power core produces only 43.8 out of which 19.8 units are still available.. I've fitted 1 subroutine maximizer 1. This isn't enough. And since these are about 3,500,000.00 each I don't want to experiment ( I'm working on fitting out a Raven and want to spend as little isk as possible for additional mining upgrades right now.) So is it possible to speed up the Retriever any further. The faster the ship, the faster I can get to the rock mine and then back to the station to reprocess the ore..
Any additional suggestions or directions will be greatly appreciated .
Thanks Blaze

If you don't have it yet, download EFT (EVE Fitting Tool) and play around with it, experimenting with ship loadouts. As a rule, every time you go up a category on modules (small, medium, large, etc) the CPU and powergrid requirements get significantly higher. That's what you're seeing trying the 10 MN burner; it requires 50MW of powergrid and your barge doesn't have that kind of output. Since all modifiers are in percentage increases it might not even be possible to get it high enough to fit. Check skills (Engineering adds 5% to powergrid output per level) and modules/rigs (there are several that add 5-10% to powergrid output), but my gut call is that it's not going to be possible.
Try a different burner; the Cold-Gas Arc Jet I afterburner gives a 120% bonus instead of the 105% of the 1 MN burner for the same CPU/powergrid/capacitor costs, or consider a microwarp drive. You can not only bookmark a jetcan, you can bookmark an asteroid in the belt and warp to it. That won't help you when you're warping into a deadspace belt from a mission, since it'll drop you at the warp-in point and make you fly from there, but for regular things it'll help some. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

You don't maneuver with a mining barge or exhumer. You just bookmark the roids in the belt with a good position and maximum mining area and war directly to the position.
If you want speed try a faction fitted Nano-Skiff, 1400 m/s or so.

It's a Retriever. It has a mass of something like 20,000,000 kg. That 1MN AB is designed to move frigates, which are about 20 times lighter. That's comparable to sticking a go-kart motor in a tank.
Trying to make a barge maneuver like anything but a barge is a lost cause. Though you can theoretically get 900 m/s out of it with a pimp fit and a buddy in a claymore, it would cost you about 3-4 bil. Just a bit out of your price range, I suspect. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

Dont be silly...
Bookmark the roids, and use them as warpin points.

I'd think you're trolling however, sadly, I'm pretty sure I've seen barge loss mails with fittings like this.

Hop in a n00b ship, shuttle or frigate and do as the others have said and make bookmarks at all the places you want to mine. Go back and hop in your barge and warp right to them. Jump between the bms in belts near each other to get to the fresh roids as warping to another belt is waaaaaay faster than you will ever get that barge under some exotic speed setup to go the 15km to the next set of roids.

And if you really want to slap a cruiser AB on, you would fit Micro Auxiliary Power Thingamajics. (If your ships grid is below 100, those give the biggest bonus to pg.)

Warp to belt. Bookmark 'roid you want to mine. Warp to another belt, bookmark 'roid you want to mine. Warp to first bookmark, mine.
If there are enough 'roids left for another trip, ok. If not bookmark another 'roid in Belt 1, warp to Belt 2. Mine.
Rinse and repeat. Forget the f-ing AB, meditate as you stare and listen to the mining lasers krang and watch the mining drones fly about.

or grab one of those fast frigs or a inty strap on a mwd speed mods and survey scanner get trough all belt and bookmark good spot and than get the miner boot and mine all your bookmark spots.

I just want to say thanks everyone for all of the the ideas and usable information that you all have provided.. I have found these methods really increases my mining speed considerably...

flying back and forth to station in retriever...fitting cargo expanders instead of mining upgrades in low...1mn afterburner instead of bookmarks and roid scanner...
