Edited by: Maurset on 02/10/2008 19:00:24 Edited by: Maurset on 02/10/2008 18:53:36 When doing level 2 agent missions, I prefer to blast the NPC's from a distance. The problem is that after I changed from a detroyer to a cruiser, my projectiles just keeps on missing the target.
Some things I have noticed is that the signature radius on the medium guns appear to be twice as large as the signature radius of the enemy ships. Witch I understand as a bad thing.
And the scan resolution has now gone from 500 down to aprox 250 on the cruiser.
However I know from my experience of getting pwned by pirates, that bigger guns are capable of hitting "smaller" ships/target (because of the massive dmg, I assume).
How can I get my long range gunners to hit smaller, and faster moving ships?

This is what I'm familiar with:
1) Reduce their angular Velocity - usually by trying to move away from them with your after burners on. Even if they can orbit you, if you are moving rapidly they will be less able to orbit you as fast and this will make them somewhat easier to hit.
2) Web them. They don't have a lot of angular velocity of they don't have a lot of velocity.
3) You can use Target Painters on them which will increase their apparent size and make them easier to hit. Also, any ship being targeted by your Target Painter will be "lit up" for not just your ship but for anyone shooting at it.
4) There are other modules you can use which will also help make them easier to hit but I'm less familiar with them than the Target Painters.
5) The Motion Prediction skill can help and their may be some others.

Or, the executive summary, the way to hit a fast small target is to make it big and slow first

Excellent summary, but you can also make your guns more responsive, etc. through skills and mods. (examples are motion prediction skill and Tracking computers)

Level 2 missions will present you with a mixture of mostly frigate-sized NPC's, with a few cruiser-sized bosses thrown in. As such, if you go all-cruiser-sized guns, you'll have trouble hitting. Webifier modules do help, but you can also install frigate-sized weapons on your cruiser.
It'll take a while longer to kill the cruiser bosses, but you'll kill the many frigate NPC's faster. Plus, small guns take up less resources (power grid), meaning you have more for your defenses (bigger shields or bigger armor).
Try a few missions with small guns, see what happens.

If you can spare a mid slot, get a tracking comp with tracking script.

As you progress to bigger ships, drones will become more important.
A flight of 5 tech II drones will take out most, if not all, of the frigates and cruisers in the time it takes your big guns to remove the battleships. ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

Drones are stronger than they let on, that's for sure.
My 5 T2 lights can take out NPC battlecruisers, and 4 of my T2s (one popped :( ) working with someone else's 4 T1 mediums have taken out an NPC battleship together with no help from us.
Though T2 drones are an expensive habit, look after them if you use them.
