Shiny ships and missiles. That is all. You know what an answer is? It's a terminus -- an end. Answers are fine, but questions are where it's at. Questions bring us closer to understanding, -áthey can start a conversation or spark a revolution. So you might as well start asking... now.-á ~See you on the other side 6/6/12~ |

Because its a beautiful environment, its space and its fun to build up something with friends (pos, etc.). Its also not a linear go do this, go do that game like most MMO's. |

I play EVE, because ...
... it's independend in content (not derived from any cartoon, film, book, whatever ...) ... actions have conseqences (for example no instant respawn after death with only some minor damage to your equipment) ... you have many coices, what to do (if you don't want PvP on a certain day, you are free to do other activities ingame) ... everyone can be usefull, even a newbie ( ... no, not being meant as victim) ... no "instant-lvl-80-chars" because of "power-gaming" (therefore casual players have aproximatelly the same opportunities like "power gamers") ... you can't gain everything, you have to prioritise your goals ... it has player driven content and goals ... it has CAPTAINS QUARTER as primary stage to WiS ... it is sciene fiction ... it is not hyped by the press ... well ... in one sentence : ... it has so many nice properties united in one game! |

Because I like Sci-FI and MMO gameplay. Also the lore is really interesting and I love the fact it's actually hard! I left last summer after the Incarna fiasco and tried to play SWTOR when it came out. I loved the story and my character in SWTOR but it was so damn easy! I didn't have to think at all, EVE makes me think constantly. "Don't count on others for help. In the end each of us is in this alone. The survivors are those who know how to look out for themselves." |

The graphics. Also, a chance at making a difference in PvP, but I might be able to get my fix for that with GW2's WvWvW (which feels similar to DAoC's RvR, which I loved). I also like the EVE universe/lore and the "flavor" of each faction, as well as the player freedom, of course. |

I play(ed) eve because here you could totally suck at everything and still have fun, where as in "common" mmo's if you couldnt keep up you might as well pack up.

There's a wonderfully complex industrial system in this game, coupled with a player driven market that other games can only dream about.
That's why. |

because I love sci fi, grew up with Star Trek and loved Elite.
I have also played a few other MMO out there , and I loved the fact EVE does have consequences, you lose it , its gone, made PVP really something special, actually got my heart going. I still remember the first time I lost a ship, my Moa (that I'd mined for months to get) to an Armageddon on my first trip out into 0.0, the pop was allot lower back then, so happened about 10 jumps in , you know I was actually unlucky to meet someone. Eve felt allot bigger then, travel took longer (unless you had the bookmarks), less peeps about.
I also like the fact that I can do lots of different things, rather than be forced down any particular path, I like the different lvls of risk involved allowing you to choose when you want to take them (something I hate is that ppl are trying to remove that choice)

Eye candy internet space ships.... and the exploration :)
Believe it or not, is not the best MMO (at least not until CCP will remove concord) and also it doesn't have the most entertaining PvP either. |

ReptilesBlade wrote:Why do you play Eve?
Short: Eve has a very rich and deep industrial and market system ran by players.
Long: There are so many different facets to The Market and Industry, that attempting to take it all in is quite tasking. That it is all player driven is amazing to me. From the simplest "mine rocks, sell rocks" to PI, POS's, research, invention, capital production, T2, T3, etc. it takes so much to grasp the big picture. Also, on the trading side beyond simple trade hubs, things like finding good mission hubs to low ball items from lazy missioners, to finding hot spot stations to sell slightly over-priced wares around FW warzones, seeding low sec stations, finding a niche and filling it. Watching the other players respond to my actions and responding to theirs.
Doing these things, and watching the results from afar is amusing to me. Give people affordable guns and they will start shooting each other. Numerous industrial and market manipulations have happened in the past. The Goons with Ice and OTEC, and HG are recent well known ones. But manipulations have always been a part of the game, in small and big ways.

I was born in 1955 so I grew up with the space age, hence Eve appeals to me on that level.
Eve is complex.
Lots of things to do.
Mostly decent folk away from the forums, even some of the forum idiots are fine when I chat to them in local.
I lack the imagination to take any game involving magic swords, wizards, elves etc seriously.
I am continuously impressed by folk who are innovative and good at what they do in Eve, be it market trading, industry, pvp, exploration etc.
Will stop now, but lets face it, Eve is by some considerable distance, the best game there is. You want fries with that? |
