So, how the hell long does it take? Me and a corp mate have had a running competition for months now, damn near a year tbh. We both kill probably 50 to 100 pods a months, not to mention ship kills and aggressions.
So how long does it take to get to "true" -10? Not talking about the rounded down -10 that shows on log-in screen. ------ // This is by design. No, what he means is -10.000 instead of -9.999, so its not -10.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.
In reality -9.9999 is counted as -10.

Because the the security status hit you take is a percentage, it technically means you can never actually reach true -10.0000000000000000000000000000000. Just in the same way that no matter what number you try to divide "1" by you can never reach zero.

Or maybe he wants to know when his standing with Concord will reach the point it rounds to -10 rather than the one listed at the top of the character sheet. The second one rounds sooner, he didn't ask actual he asked "true" and as far as display goes that is the point where it can't go any lower.

With the new changes to sec status drops, it only took a couple more pods to get there...I'm sure it's actually -9.995 or something close..but my standings to concord read -10.00...they really don't like me anymore.
That being said, has anyone noticed that the navies response time to a gate has gone down? Crossing high sec seems to have gotten easier post FW. I've managed to get a cruiser through lately without having to nano the snot out of it . (Accidental jump through high sec |

What I'm talking about is the "truest" sec status info you can get hold of short of the DB entry and thats checking your sec status via your corp interface. Its shown -9.999 for almost a year now on me and a few other people. The rounded sec status that shows on log-on screens and when you show info on a person starts showing "-10" at about -9.995 or so. ------ // This is by design. I think what he meant to say was that no matter how many times you divide a number it will never reach zero. :)

Not necessarily true.
You don't know what dividing by 0 could do. Only chuck norris knows that. |

mathematically it should be impossible
unfortunately computers arent the best at representing maths exactly. If you divide a number enough times you will reach a point where the numbers so small that you go below the accuracy of your memory storage so it will be rounded down to 0, or in this case -10.

Quite right, it would depend on how powerful the CPU is, specifically the ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)and the registers (e.g. the program counter register) within the CPU.
So the answer is that depends on how old your computer is. The older the computer, the faster you could get to 'true -10' at least as far as that computer is concerned.

(a) Depends on data type used and its precision. Certain compiler optimizations on P4-based machines can kill precision a bit, too, if I recall correctly - not that I've ever had issues with that.
(b) It does NOT depend on your computer. Such data is not stored locally, it is queried from server.
(c) I don't recall for how long have float/double have had same precision (don't particularly care either, don't do any maths where it would be a factor) but I'm wagering on quite a long time.

The important part is that he said "'1' by" and not "by '1'"
good try though
You would think CCP would have added things like, "Amarr", "CCP", "Microwarpdrive", etc. to their forum dictionary.

Good point, thanks.
You are looking at it from a different angle than me however Cpt Branko. The software only uses what is in the CPU ie the logic gates, shift registers, flip-flops etc etc which are the building blocks of the CPU. Therefore software is limited to what hardware the hardware can do.
Because it is impossible to have such a thing as in infinite series of shift registers, it's the hardware that limits the computational power of the software.

This.
But honestly, you could get down to that point pretty fast with a high sec suicide pod attack, follow up by killing FW guys in tama. Make sure you pod for the oomph factor! Smart bombs make it easy =)

Well, that settles it then I guess. 32 people have hit this in what, 5 years of play? I'm not gonna worry about it. definately making a push myself for this. after a few trips to -9.999 and subsequent accidental faction rat kills, i'm back just inches from -10. hopefully i can make it before fanfest. www.the-bastards.com Ask me about recruiting options |
